BRAND
This is the classic yellow boot that made the Timberland Company so famous.
Well-liked since their 1973 release, they reached icon status in the 90’s hip-hop community and now you can find them from the feet of rich hipsters to construction workers to rappers and everyone in between.

FIRST GLANCE
This is the classic 6” wheat nubuck waterproof boot - the one you picture when you hear “Timberlands.” They’ve got a Gripstick rubber lug outsole, Taslan nylon laces, and PrimaLoft insulation, which accounts for most of the two pound weight. Overall, they’re pretty bulky and relatively versatile.
LEATHER
These Tims are made from waterproof wheat nubuck. Nubuck is a kind of top-grain leather that’s been sanded to give a slight nap to the protein fibers. It’s similar to suede, but heartier, and it won’t develop a patina over time.
** More about the differences between nubuck and suede here: stridewise.com/nubuck-vs-suede/ **
LEATHER CARE
The boots are already waterproof, and the processing that goes into that means that the usual leather conditioners won’t work on. The nubuck gets dirty really easily, and Timberland recommends brushing with a nylon brush to get the dirt out of the fibers and raise the nap.
If your boots get stained, you can use a pencil eraser to get rid of spots or, if they need a deeper clean, Timberland sells a proprietary water-based cleaner called “Renewbuck” that should take care of salt stains and other messes.

SOLE
The Gripstick rubber outsole is very, very sticky at first but wears off a bit over time; there’s also a rubber midsole, urethane insole, and removable foam insert. The materials won’t mold to your foot over time the way leather and cork will, but they’re comfortable out of the box. There’s also a steel shank that makes for really nice arch support.
The sole is bonwelted, which isn't crazy different to regular cemented soles like you get on sneakers. Since it’s not stitched like a Goodyear welt would be, it’s much more difficult to resole, which means that once you wear through these soles, you’ve basically got to replace the boot. They’re popular enough, though, that there are some cobblers that specialize in resoling Tims, if you want to look for one in your area.
FIT & SIZING
Available in full and half sizes up to size 18, and I recommend going down a half size from your sneaker size (particularly if you’re into the open laced look that’s so popular).
Great shock absorption, easy to walk around in, nice arch support, and don’t really have a break-in period; overall, they’re comfy boots.
PRICE
Between $160 and $180, which feels about right given the quality of the materials used and the welting on the sole.
TIMBERLAND 6” PREMIUM WATERPROOF BOOT: WORTH THE HYPE?
For their price, they’re a pretty damn good boot. They’re hard to keep clean and to resole, but they’re also waterproof, insulated, and comfortable; at the end of the day, they’re not much more expensive than a pair of sneakers but they’ll last you a hell of a lot longer.

Can confirm they're definately great boots for the average drug dealer, since I bought my timberlands I've gotten an extra 27 points in street cred, and can stay out in the cold longer, I used sell 3.5oz of coke per night now I'm getting 5 ounces. They're definately worth the investment for the local street pharmacist. The only downside is that they're a bit harder to drive in when you're doing drive by shootings.

DON’T BUY THESE BOOTS . I’ve had 3 pairs of these boots they’ve all ended up splitting where the leather attaches to the sole. I got a free replacement for the first boots then the second split the third pair the sole became completely detached. I had friends that the same thing happened…

As a life long new yorker and resident of NYCHA projects, seeing your timberlands laced so tight gave me anxiety.

I've had the same pair of these for almost 30 years on the original sole. I wore them to work most days for a number of years, and they've taken me all over the world. I've never done anything to maintain them other than rinse or brush off mud and dirt. They have never failed me. The lower part of the outsole finally started to come unglued recently, but that was easily fixed. Best pair of boots I've ever had.

I love my Timberlands,...have several pairs. Well made with quad-stitching, smooth leather and they are comfortable, and look great. But I just bought my first pair of Red Wings...Blacksmiths in copper to be exact, and this is other-level leather. The smell and feel of the leather is superb, and the old world craftsmanship is awesome.

I've had 5 pairs of these boots since I was 16. Once broken in they are incredibly comfortable and very durable. My only mistake was buying a limited edition pair with a canvas style upper. They didn't fit quite right and felt like they were a size too big.

Nice review Nick. For the price point, I agree that these boots are a good value. Not that much more money than a pair of ‘throw aways’. Another fine production! Thanks.

I've just ordered my first pair of Timberland premiums and can't wait to get them on, I just hope buying half a size less than my usual size is the right fit!

Just wanted to say I just recently got my second pair of timberlands, and I got the heritage boots. They come in a few colors of full grain leather which is just easier to care for. My old tims are the basics, in a gray nubuck. I didnt want the wheat nubuck cuz I figured it has to be hard to keep clean, lol. But the basics aren't terrible if you add a decent insole.

Thansk a ton mate, very informative! My 90th Timberland were stiched, every cobbler could replace the sole. A shame...

These are worth the money, even better value when people sell them lightly used under half price. Comfy and well built boots. I love that you can just put them on and walk without the need to lace them but i lace them like a normal person

I actually picked up a nice pair of Timberland's limited edition "Winter Extreme Super Boots" the other day in Marshalls for $100. Full-Grain leather with Vibram soles; not a bad deal.
