I’d like to toss the idea out to you to deconstruct a fake/knock-off of a popular name brand - ie. Doc Martens or any other name brand of your choosing (fakes are made for practically every name brand that exists); it would be relatively cheap and it would be interesting to see if knockoffs come close to construction because they come pretty darn close to how they look aesthetically compared to the authentic name brand.
@inregionecaecorum
@inregionecaecorum 4 года назад
Thing is the so called real thing is actually a knock off of what the brand used to be. I like to source vintage boots and shoes, that have knocked around a bit stood the test of time and have been repaired in the past and can still be repaired for as long as you can find a proper cobbler on the high street.

Doc Martens had its own version of the thick rubber lug sole. I don't understand why that can't be marketed today instead of the shallow vinyl sole that wears out quickly.

I maybe wrong here, but I believe Doc Martin's were bought out by a foreign company a while back. I believe they are still manufactured in the UK but not owned by a UK company (so profit is entirely the main motivation, not brand pride or heritage).

Hakim Mohamad i only buy old (pre 1980's) Levi's from goodwill. The better kept the better, they last longer. If i put a whole in my pants it sucks because it starts fraying. Niggas these days wear pants that are almost two pieces from the knee. I buy everything used. My tims and dr martens where both 10 bucks in great condition. Both pre-2000. No need to pay more for a shinny less quality boot if the old one is in great condition and better quality.

B D a company cannot advertise made in usa and disclose that it was produced in China because it will get sued. For a company to properly advertise made in usa it needs at the least minimum have the most substantial part of its manufacture to be done in the states. We love to think that companies always put the label and make it in other places, but most of The time these products say designed or assembled.

Your efforts to enlighten us are very much appreciated, having an insight to how boots are constructed is invaluable. As a hunter and outdoors person boots are a very important piece of kit, my chosen hunting boot is the Meindl Douvre Extreme, I have other Meindl boots and find them all comfortable, hard wearing and waterproof. I would be interested in seeing you dismantle them and compare to other hunting boots in the future. 👍👍👍

Great video! I have a bunch of Tim's about 15 years old in various colors. A couple even made in USA. I've been less impressed with them over time instead of more impressed as I'd hoped. (If I could figure out how to stretch them a half size it would probably help) Recently I've started buying Doc's. Mostly about 30yr old MIE ones in real good condition. I'm liking the Doc's more. If wearing boot cut jeans over them there really isn't the biggest difference besides the yellow string so I don't see them as being so different as others do.

I'll keep saying this, Docs are just shoes. They were originally sold and produced as shoes, and they happen to have boot-like-design with none of the functionality. I wore docs for a super long time and they aren't tough at all, the rubber they make the soles out of is sub-par **Especially compared to skate shoes so that says a lot** and if you want a boot boot, get Timbs in the same price range. What makes a boot? The leather, the durability, the function, the purpose and therefore the design. What are docs? fuckin shoes bro

I have a pair of DMs and have had a few pairs of Timberlands 6 inch Premiums over the years. The Timberlands definitely feel much more heavy duty and versatile than the DMs and can double up as hiking boots if necessary. The first part to give up on all pairs of Timberlands I've had has been the leather behind the heel which wears away completely after a few years, thankfully this doesn't seem to have a huge impact on the comfort though so I can carry on using them. I am very fond of my DMs though, I bought them in 2013, they're made from very soft leather (not the normal shiny DM leather) and they feel like putting on an old pair of slippers. The soles are worn smooth though, so anything other than pavement and they get a bit slippery! I'd love to see CAT Colorado boots cut in half, as I also have a couple of pairs of those and they've lasted well and are very comfortable so it'd be very interesting to see what's inside.

actually the quality between the two is about the same. The only difference is that the soles on the solovairs can be replaced, while the docs cant. imo, they're both good boots, and the only diff is if you're willing to pay the premium for the yellow stitching on the docs.

It's good to see the exposure of the boots despite the hurt for cutting these beauties in half. For my work I have to wear Haix boots. These Haix boots come in different specs, depending for what are they used for (Firefighters, Police, SWAT, Emergency Services, Paramedics and Army,etc.). I have a Haix Firefighters Pro boot, very comfy, heavy boot, with a lots of safety specs Haix claimed to be on the particular boot. They're not kinda cheap, and very high quality. I'm sooo curious to see what's going inside the Haix boots. Hope you can expose them too some day! I'll be delighted! I wear both. Timberland's are not really my style, but I have never found anything else that keeps my feet as warm and dry in our brutal east coast winters. They also have great customer service, I had one that cracked on the bottom and called the company, they sent me a new pair instantly. Wearing Docs in the ice and snow is a death wish, but I can't say Iv'e had any complaints about the shank, or lack thereof. Mine have held up well, but I do use an insole with all my boots.

I''ve worn both and found the Tims to be more durable , just didn't like the appearance as well as Docs . I really like the comparison videos , keep 'em coming. I'm ready to buy a new pair of quality boots so will be watching to see what I learn from them.

Then try Solovair. They used to make Doc Martens before the brand went all fashoinista. Build quality looks superior to even the Made in England Docs. Rose Anvil compared the two and the Solovair was better.

Hi there, I'm finding your videos fascinating... As a long time DM wearer, growing up in London in the 70's, these were our go to boots, cheap (at the time) hard wearing and cool... The generally wore well, but the usual place mine went is along the top of the welt, by the big toe area.. the leather always gave out there...and the boots leaked, usually after about 2 years of every day use.... (I've had probably 7 or 8 pairs over the years...) Fast forward to the 90's and I got my first pair of Timberlands in Paris... The last really well.. 10 or years or every day wear.. The split as have all my subsequent boots at the toe, where the sole came away from the welt.. no amount of glueing even as a shoes repair place prolonged the life for very long... Every pair I'd had has had the same or similar sole issue, we are talking the premiums here.. The Urethane comes away from the welt some place.. Generally good boots, but next pair will probably be Blundstones...

It’d be cool to see a review or dissection of fashion brand boots to see how well they’re constructed!! Like Stuart weitzman

@@kodokushiHill there's a big difference, welt is different, solovair has a shank, soles are much thicker and in my experience the soles seem to last almost twice as long.

Excellent comparison! Well done! How do you resole a boot where the EVA layer has degraded or split. My local shoemakers says they aren't fixable. How about showing us how it can be fixed/resoled?

Doc's used to have a solid rubber sole back in the 80s but they were certainly heavier as well. Also I don't know if they still do but they used to have a lifetime guarantee on the sole. If you somehow managed to wear them out you could send them in (just pay the shipping) and they would resole them for free.

This channel has a lot of potential and you know your stuff too, suggest taking the project farm (RU-vid channel) route and you will grow pretty quick the moment you grow a loyalty base, I'd start of with shoes that do well in terms of trending/people want and slowly move into real shoes and mix it up every once in a while

I bought a couple pairs of Levi's leather boots earlier this year, the "Jax" and "Emerson". Given the price, I bought them under the assumption that they'd be poor man's timbs, but they're fiendishly comfortable and seem to be holding up well. It would be interesting to see them as a cross comparison to the Timberland or Doc Marten, in a sense of what you would get across different mass-market boots in a higher vs lower price point.

I have both types of shoes, so I can share personal impressions. In appearance, the shoes of Dr. Martens look more suitable for urban wear, but in terms of quality they really give way. Also, if the weather is too cold, don't expect your feet to be warm. Regarding Timberlands, even after the first touch, it is felt that these shoes are healthier and of better quality and more solid than Dr. Martens. This difference is felt even by people who are not specialists without having to cut. But, this is normal, considering that Timberlands is a work shoe for builders and loggers. So if you're trying to look sleek in an urban setting, Timberlands won't help you make that happen. If you just want a strong and hopeful shoe, then this is the right choice.

Timberlands are pretty dope tho still for regular wear. You can throw them on to a regular pair of jeans hoody and puffer much easier than dr Martens. Like doc martens is more for a anesthetic or punk look whereas timbs are for everyday wear

I have actually had a pair of DM shoes where the sole has split just before the heel, which suggests your point about the shank is correct. In the UK we have a major chain of cobblers that can resole DMs, but the cost doesn’t really make it worth it. They seem to the only footwear where Goodyear welting has no advantage.
