Whenever I find a tablet I want a review of I get super hyped seeing that you've reviewed it. No obnoxious intro, no unnecessary filler and just straight to the point. Please make more!
Thanks to your in depth review (and other youtube reviews), I've just ordered this one as a second tablet to be able to use with my laptop. My Wacom Intuos is still working great after 10 years on my iMac, but I've been looking for a less expensive second tablet. I sure do appreciate your reviews, this was an easy decision!
The Gaomon M106k looks like it would work fine, but honestly, I don't use that many of the hot keys, so having access to two dozen of them isn't for me. And I do like the rotational wheel that comes on the Star 06. I've set it up to quickly change my brush size as I'm drawing. So, I can keep one hand holding my pen and my other on the rotational wheel controlling the brush size. I noticed in the review I watched of the M106k, that the reviewer was working in Manga Studio and then in Illustrator. I don't use my tablet for either of these programs. Don't work in Manga, and use my mouse and keyboard in Illustrator, so I can't say how the M106k works in Photoshop, but I'm sure it probably works just fine. For under a hundred bucks, I don't think you can go wrong with either one. One negative comment about my Star 06 after having worked with it now for a couple of weeks. The tip has already started slightly marking up the drawing area. Whereas on my 10 year old Intuos tablet, there is no marring at all. Something I thought I'd pass along...
thank you for this review i live in a poor country so i have to look up reviews for old cheap tablets and i always see your reviews haha you helped me a lot with my purchase
Hi Teoh! Thanks for your reviews! I just choose a tablet as a gift for my wife. She draws well on paper, but she's tired of drawing a mouse on the computer. I read all of your blog post reviews on tablets starting in 2015 and got a lot of useful information. In my choice I settled on two models: Wacom Intuos Art PT S (2015) and XP-Pen Star 06. Wacom is more expensive for $ 15 and for wireless work you still need to spend 55 dollars (only 192 dollars). It's small and will take up less space on the desk (if you do not buy a wireless module), but will it be easy to use to work on a 17-inch monitor? XP-Pen Star 06 costs 122 dollars equipped with a wireless module (does not take up any space on the table) has a high functional, but is it reliable and convenient? I'm not an artist, but a technician. For me, reliability, functionality and stability are important. Wacom is a very famous brand, but if XP-Pen is as reliable and stable in work, I would buy it as more functional. Tell me please, what tablet do you think will be the preferred purchase as a specialist in this field? I will be very grateful for your reply!
Thanks Teoh, I did not expect you to answer me so quickly. You very much helped me and approved my decision. I ordered Star 06. Thanks again for the help!
@@husain3190 Hey. I ordered XP-Pen Star 06 from a local representative, but he was unable to deliver it within a month. Then I bought Wacom Intuos 2015: Comic. And now I think I made the right choice. Included with the tablet are 2 programs, the tablet size is convenient - the hand does not get tired of drawing long lines. Windows 8 computer, 12 GB of RAM (Kingston HyperX), 512 SSD (Kingston HyperX Savage), Intel i7 processor and tablet are fast, and the drivers are stable. My wife draws on the tablet and she is very happy, mainly works in Adobe Photoshop, but she often uses programs bundled with the tablet. I bought a tablet as a gift, the timing and the tablet manufacturer were also important to me, since most artists still work with Wacom. If you are willing to experiment, try the XP-Pen. I just could not buy it.
So, is the consensus that xp-pens and star 06 would work really crap on linux (ubuntu)? I read everywhere that the linux drivers they provide are pretty crap
What do you mean Wacom driver? How do u use it? Is it so you can get degrees(angle) in the strokes? Please answer I just order it and I'm kinda scared I messed up
Driver is the software that tells the computer you're using a pen and not a mouse. The driver allows you to draw with pressure, tilt, and can customise the shortcut buttons.
Hello thanks for good reviews ,,, i have one question do you recommend star 06 over huion q11 or new 1060 plus ,,, and in general what is your opinion about xp pen brand and quality thanks again and keep up the good work
Star 06 is good. I like it for the scroll wheel. You can use it to change brush sizes easily. But other than that, functionality is very similar to Huion. Build quality seems good enough to me.
This was my tablet like 6 years ago, probably the most crappy tablet I've ever had. The software/driver (back then for Windows 10) was really crappy that profiles and pen pressure sometimes didn't work; and the wireless sometimes lose connection. The entire thing was made with thin and cheap plastics that if you ever drop your pen from your table (and you will), it will instantly breaks the plastic housing. I have bought 2 pen replacement ever since, and one of them also comes with loose hole that it won't hold the nibs properly. I also have replaced the dial encoder because it occasionally doesn't register input. Looking at the PCB/electronics inside the tablet and the pen and the cheap plastic they use, it is clear that this product cuts so many corners even for a 'budget' tablet at the time. Most of their budget are spent on marketing and professional editing of their actual tablet photo.
Thank you for the amazing review. about driver: what driver i need to install (wacom) ?? and on windows is the same situation? I love that you maded an wifi test.
Nice review, thanks. Are you using wireless mode for demo? read from other place said wired mode is much better for smooth stroke. Can you confirm this?
+Qitao Wang I'm using the wireless mode. Regarding the smooth stroke, it is not dependable on the wire or wireless mode. It has got to do with the driver. Some brands are just not able to create really smooth strokes in Photoshop (a Photoshop specific problem). I find that sometimes switching from a cursor to a crosshair cursor for drawing (using the Capslock key) helps make the lines smoother. But if it still does not work, then using the Lazy Nezumi plugin is recommended.
Is it true you have to reinstall the driver every time you restart the computer? read it on some amazon reviews, this could be the deal breaker for me... I use mac
Hi, it's nice review , xp pen star06 vs huion q11k , which best quality ? Did q11k pen need to charge ? Did q11k working only with wireless , and can i working with it wired when it charge connected ?
As someone who is just getting into digital art (and art as a whole), this further convinced me to get the Star 06 as I want something budget friendly. Thanks for making a review like this
hi, i am trying to buy a graphics tab. i was thinking of buying a huion 1060 plus 2016 before this but now i am very confused. my friend has the xp pen star 05. please recommend me one. you are a big help rn I'm gonna subscribe!
You can consider the following: XP Pen Star 06, Parblo A609, Huion New 1060 Plus, Wacom Intuos Art, Gaomon M106K. They all function pretty similarly so get the one that's easiest for you to get, or cheapest depending on your budget.
Even though I already have a surface book to draw on I still enjoy watching these tablet reviews because these tablets seem much harder than drawing on a screen.
I'm getting choppy lines when drawing zoomed out, that not even stabilization can fix. I assume it's a sign of lag, but I've only had the product for about a year.
With Photoshop, I get choppy lines when drawing at 100%. But when drawing at 200%, lines are smooth. Test with other apps too. Krita, Medibang paint pro, Sketchbook Pro
Hi! Thanks lot for all your great videos. I enjoy very much. Let me please know if you have seen any TILT facility in this model of XP-Pen Star 06 Wireless Graphics Tablet because XP-PEN customer service(through message from their website) informed me that 'all the star series tablets support 45 degrees of tilt'. Actually I want to buy a Tablet with TILT feature but not very costly as Wacom. Thanks and best regards.
+Joy Paul Not sure about tilt. The only non Wacom tablet that I've see so far with tilt is Parblo A609. I'm sure there are others but I have not used them before. There is no tilt in this tablet or they would have advertised it on their Web site
Thanks for reply. Yes, XP-PEN have informed me about unavailability of tilt feature in their graphics tablet while I asked them in twitter last night. Probably their website guy was unaware about it. However, I have already seen your nice review regarding Parblo Island A609 and also have got some information through @ParbloMonitor twitter account about TILT feature of this tablet. Thank you again very much for your great reviews and other wonderful videos. Best regards.
I have contacted the company and said that I am the first one who needs relative mode in Photoshop and there is no solution because Photoshop when in relative mode doesn't recognise pen pressure...
@@teohyc thank you for your response to be honest that is the only choices i saw in the walmart online store. Can help me more further on walmart which tablet do you prefer under $100 because im not sure if this is the only tablets that competes with each other.
I'm currently using the Star-04, and the pen configuration is very limited. I want to control brush size by programming one of the pen buttons to hold down control+option (mac) so that I can drag the pen while pushing the button, and this will adjust the brush size (I know the scroll wheel will do this, too, but I don't want that). Can this pen be programmed to hold those two buttons down? I know the Wacom can, but I'd rather not spend the money.
sorry, so to use wireless mode, we just need to stick that small device to the tablet, and stick nothing to the laptop? I am still unsure about how to use wireless mode.
Thanks for the review, I found one of these graphic tablet on an online-shop, but they just have it smaller, I've saved some good amount of money and I want to buy the best not to cheap and not to expensive, it should have a large display to draw. Yours is pretty decent I liked it. I'm gonna watch more unboxing videos of the products the online-shop near where I'm living, are selling. So I know how big they are in real.
The intuos draw is a pretty good tablet because its not too big or too small, but for value I'd go with the star 06. Much bigger has wireless built in. Pretty much more futureproof if you're using it long term.
hello, introduce me saiful, STAR 6 user. Can I request a copy of the default driver from your xppen? the problem is mine was removed, and on the xp pen website, the driver is different, and it's not good. . . I've looked everywhere, but it's hard to find an old xp pen driver. :'(
Hi it's me again. I need to ask something. Which wacon driver does work fine to enable the pressure? I have intalled a wacon driver and it didn't work.Thanks. again!
I think this is a good one because of the scroll wheel. Drawing functionality of other tablets are going to be the same. So this little feature sets it apart in terms of usefulness
+Dimas Aditjondro They are quite similar. Just get the one that is easier or cheaper. The strokes are smoother on the XP Pen so that would get my choice.
I can't decide between XP-Pen Star 06 and Huion 1060 Plus. I'm aware of the difference in pressure sensitivity but overall do you feel much difference? I'll be transitioning from pencil art to tablet art so I'm not sure if I'll be more comfortable with a higher pressure sensitive tablet or if it doesn't really matter. I'll be grateful for your insights!
+Rachael Sia I prefer XP Pen Star 06 because it had the scroll wheel which is very useful for changing brush sizes. Pressure sensitivity for most tablets are quite similar nowadays. 2000 levels vs higher levels are difficult to differentiate
