People often describe this camera as a poor man Leica , but you don't have to be poor or a man to shoot with this.
This is a beautiful and well made Russian 35mm rangefinder camera that is a joy to shoot with.
Yes it is quirky and it does have some faults but don't we all.
Come with us as we dive in a take a look at the camera in detail.

I have the same Industar 50mm 3.5 on a Zenith C camera. I had it in 1958 when I was 14. I have a Zorki 4k with the Jupiter 8 50mm f2 lens too I still use both and I am 73 years young now.

I absolutely love my Zorki 4K. It's more comfortable to shoot with than my Leica M2. If the viewfinder was bigger and the build quality a little better, it would probably be my favorite camera. I use a Voigtlander 35mm f2.5 color skopar on mine.

I bought my Zorki K4 around 1978 from a mail order catalogue. Mine has a 50mm Carl Zeiss 1.8 lens. Took some terrific photos. Definitely needed to use a light meter for some shots, but the more you use it, the easier it becomes.

I own several Leica’s. But my Zorki 4K - brought new - in 1976 for 295 guilders will always be of sweet rememberance. The Jupiter 8 - using Agfa CT18 - showed - using a Leitz Pradovit with Colorpan - sharpness one would not believe. On a 150cm (5 feet) screen details of 1mm could be seen. Not as contrasty as a Nikkor 50mm 1.8, but it has its own mojo.

It also can be upscaled to 8K thanks to soviet manual upscaling mode

Well I am now the proud owner of a Leica M3 (Summicron not Summilux) and a Zorki 4 (not the aesthetically inferior 4K), and I watched your video. I came here to learn about the shutter rewind button, which I also thought was a lock. Thank you.

Never changing the shutter speed without cocking the shutter first is a mantra that many photo enthusiasts need to stick to. I got to know it as "The Kiev Mantra" (after the Kiev 88, a Soviet Hasselblad clone). It's not exclusive to Soviet cameras by any means, though. BTW, I just realized I have the same light table :-D

No strap lugs on the body is a pain
@speltospel

there were models with loops. There was a leanter cover in the kit. which was screwed into the tripod socket and had straps on it.
@Murgoh
@Murgoh 3 года назад
@@speltospel I have the previous model, Zorki 4 without the K, and it has strap lugs on the body. Also has the leather case which is kind of a poor design because the strap is fastened so low the camera is top heavy and tends to hang upside down.

I have the pancake version of that lens on my Zenit B and they make a fantastic combo together.

I found my copy to be a little fiddly. I much prefer the Fed-2, 3 or a Kiev 4a

I think I set the shutter speed before clocking the shutter... How to repair? Thank you!

I just got a zorki 4 and broke it before getting to use it. Was trying to lubricate all the insides and accidentally broke the shutter speed dial

Shutter Jam is a great title lol. It reminds me of the Hasselblad CM I had which jammed up. I was really gutted and it put me right off the Hasselblad. I preferred the Yashica 635 TLR I had around that time. Trying to use a polarising filter with a TLR is a hoot!

Great review, of a very popular camera, but a bit of a demeaning title for the video.

I chose a Zorki 4 and not 4k because the lever on the 4k is awful :)

What is it supposed to smell like? Mine smells like old leather from being in the leather case.

I am looking more into MF film cameras but I wouldn't mind having one of these as I think my aging eyes would have a better time with it compared to my 35mm SLR.

Hey man thank yoyu for your grrat work. The only ones mentioning "hipsters" are hipsters themselfves and caring too much about what others might call you is just the neurosis of our generation. That's my opinion at least ;p.

Are you an enormous man or is the camera smaller than I imagined? Got one winging its way to me, I'm living in fear of changing my shutter speed out of sequence but it's such a pretty camera.
@ShutterJam
@ShutterJam 7 лет назад
Lol, I like to think of myself as fairly average. The camera is quite small and compact but there's enough to hold onto. Don't worry too much about changing the shutter speed out of sequence as it would require quite a bit of force to actually do this and break it. Well at least on my one it is, best be careful regardless. Happy shooting and thanks for watching
