Zorki 2C A Leica From A Different Land.
In this video we test out and take a quick inspection of the Zorki 2C. A 35mm film camera that was produced quite a long time ago. We use 35mm film (Kodak Colorplus 200) on an old 50mm F3.5 lens. I also show you what not to do as I unfortunately loaded my first ever roll of film in this camera backwards. This can be seen as a "how to" and "how not to" with the Zorki 2C.
My trip with the camera takes us to Courtown in Wexford Ireland where we stop by the seal sanctuary to take in the amazing work that they do.
We also have a look into the past to find out how this camera came to be and who produced it.
This video was captured using a Fujifilm xt3.
The aerial footage was recorded with a DJI Mavic 2 Pro.
Music was supplied by Epidemic Sound.
Thank you so much for watching.
Alex Hayes.

Great video. The Zorki was the camera that inspired my love of photography at the tender age of fourteen. Now as pro shooter in my twilight years, I still have several Zorki's that I use on holidays. Keep film alive.

I had a zorki 4 many years ago. The lack of parallax markings in the viewfinder caused some problems with composition but with the coupled rangefinder and quite fast shutter speeds I got some great photos with it. I eventually traded it in for a Zenit because I waned t try an SLR but I’m sorry I did.

Hi, great video and convinced me to get one that just arrived!! It seems in good working order. I loaded the film as explained and something strange is happening: I take the shot and start winding to load the next and, while I do that, the camera takes another shot without warning. After that it reloads ok, ready for another shot. It was not doing this without the film loaded.

Very nice and useful video, I’m waiting for my Zorki C to arrive which looks more or less the same as your 2C, didn’t realise that loading the film was completely different to my Zorki 4K’s. Thanks. Thought a lot of your images had a slight green tint or was it just the scenes, very nice location for photography though. Richard

@AlexBlurry
@AlexBlurry 4 года назад
I 100% agree. The only thing stopping me from using it more often is just the extra few steps for loading film. However I probably will use it for an upcoming video soon.
@geoffreymendelson
@geoffreymendelson 4 года назад
they are actually very simple to load if you ignore the conventional wisdom and look at it differently. I found this out from a Japanese video on loading a similar camera, maybe a leica. You push in between the pressure plate and the front of the camera a stiff card. It should be near the sprocket wheel and go as far down as possible. Insert the film between the card and the pressure plate, already in the correct direction (backwards from the obvious) on the take up spool. It should be relatively taught.The card should be just thick enough that it prevents the teeth of the sprocket wheel engaging the film. When it is in all the way, remove the card and wind the film going slowly so the teeth engage the holes in the film.

@@geoffreymendelson that is brilliant advice! Thanks so much for that I'll definitely give it a go. The easier it is to load up the camera the more likely I am to use it.

I started my slippery slope into rangefinders with the Zorki 4 which has a combination of rangefinder and viewfinder in one window maybe try focusing first then compose. Enjoy your film journey.

The C letter is in Russian the S letter. So... Zorki 2C in infact Zorki 2S. S stands for synchrone. On the front of the camere aboth the selftimer knob you have a synchrone connection for a flash. Well done.

Do you have to use a different form of screw to set in on a tripod ? As the hole seems to be big.
@AlexBlurry
@AlexBlurry 4 года назад
It looks big but it in fact isn't, a normal tripod screw will fit right in.

Rather than cutting the existing roll of film just add a piece to the roll, that way you will get more frames per roll, I do this all the time and frequently get 39 shots per 36 roll. Fuji Acros 100 II is 12.99 euro per roll so every frame counts.

@@AlexBlurry Thanks! I really want to try another lens. For example, old russian lens: Orion-15 28/6.0 (super sharp lens for architecture) and may be Jupiter 3+ 50/1.5. As far as I know they should fit the Zorki mount. Any advice for non-russian lenses?
@AlexBlurry
@AlexBlurry 3 года назад
Well here is the trick from what I've learned but am yet to test out. The old leica lenses from around the same time period should be compatible with your camera. If you have the money for one then that's what I'd go for. Just be sure that you are definitely getting a compatible lens before you spend any money.

when you cut the leader for bottom loading cameras like this, try to cut the leader smoothly not at right angles as this is a great way to snag the film and cause a bit of film to break off into the shutter.Not a good idea
