Owned the gun for 3 years. Amazing. If you are installing wires in a roofspace of an existing house you will save loads of time and effort. Not recommended for new build rough ins. Clips are about 10c each in australia. Versus 3-4c for normal clip that you hammer in

you can overcome the loose staples by rolling the tool a bit more forward, this provides a tight fit to the cable.

It was strange moving over to staples. All I do is every other one i tap with a hammer then it’s just as good at clip.

Good video. Well presented. Hopefully this is a start of a trend for all tool manufacturers to follow as usually completion betters the tool market, and giving us more option. Would be nice to see various sizes of staples and a smaller version of a gun to fit in between a 400mm joist gap we usually find ourselves trying to clip onto. Good start DeWalt

400mm gap for a well built individual *whistles* with the sausage fingers thing going on as well.

I love mine! Wait till you start using Arc Fault Breakers that additional slack that allows the cable to move is almost heaven sent. The old school guys who think that their hammer is Mjölnir and have been exceeding the bend radius of their cabling for years here in North America have become the bane of anyone doing trimming/2nd fixing or service work. They also tell end-users when they come back to do service calls that the reason why their electric Circuit doesn’t work in their bedrooms “it’s because the house has settled and it’s pinching the wire”. Not even joking...😒

The demo was no good, whether it's a nail gun or stapler they won't fully drive home unless the base material is fixed and fully supported. The OSB board was only supported by a vice at it's lower edge, the top edge where the stapling was taking place was free to flex and was absorbing the energy from the gun. I can't believe they were dumb enough to do this and blame the product !

@robinpenny3193 3 года назад
I am reading in reviews elsewhere that it works in soft wood, but not at all on harder/older wood like old joists. Have you tried this? Better news is that Screwfix are now stocking the staples whereas before they only sold the stapler! Cable movement is a real advantage when you need to adjust the wiring a bit or come to the point where you need to strip it out. You could even thread new cable through the staples in a replacement scenario.

Good product, and good idea for supporting cable, also can see it being a big help to support lengths of cable prior to adding in clips, to save the old three handed juggling electricians love to do with cable, clips and hammer when up high clipping to joists on a ladder 😂

I’m not convinced sorry DeWalt. Nice idea, you mentioned about the alarm cable staple gun which was very secure at fixing the cable, so this isn't a new concept, I just wouldnt be happy with a one-size fits all and the cables being loose. Great Vid, although the bare shelves apart from one behind you messed with my OCD 😂🙏👍

Can't hold cables up with plastic cable ties anymore because cables sag when they melt due to fire. I suspect that this applies as well, or should apply as well to clips. Therefore, these metal staples appear to comply better than plastic clips.
@stephenwalker6823
@stephenwalker6823 2 года назад
The 18th edition Wiring Regulations requires metal cable supports/clips in or over access/egress routes only. Plastic clips are still perfectly acceptable everywhere else.

It’s a nice fancy Black and Decker, limited in it’s use as you can’t get between 400mm joists all having different size staples to give a better grip would be good. Also Gaz you mentioned that most new homes have stud walls , well we’re not Americans we don’t fix our cables to the studs , we’re not pilchards. And we should not be coping how our friends across the pond do things, Whatever next will we be dispensing or earth sleeving and an just having a bear earth like the Americans. Still not a Bad tool if that what turns you on. Good video as always Guys 👍

So, you can shoot this into breeze block with varying success but it does work. Have to take into account this was designed for the North American market where most states code requires cables to have slack and not be clipped tight though, something foreign to the UK scene but becoming more common place.

Great idea, I suppose it can only get better, be good if you could get different size clips and be able to shoot the clips into breeze block and cement course so you didn’t have to change between the nailer and a hammer when clipping down walls.

Agree - If this catches on we are sure more manufacturers will follow and hopefully this will drive innovation and more features.

Looks great for where viewing the cable isn't visible. It would be better if there were different staples for different cables and you could set the depth. Then I might use it for visable areas.

Why can’t hasn’t someone designed a staple and gun that fits specific size cables firmly. It seems obvious. Wouldn’t entertain this slack fit system as it seems like a rough way to install cables. That said Great demonstration guys .

Seems Dewalt need to make clips for different size cables?...hmm..I was hoping that slack in the cable wouldn't happen. Prob OK on a 10mm or 6mm T&E and the limitation to fixing on wood is a big deal breaker. Clipping to mortar lines and block is a pain in the A**e...missed a trick there Dewalt ;-)

This idea has been stolen from viper grip whos stapler and gun are far better as the gun is much smaller and lighter meaning you can get into small places unlike this cumbersome tool.
