REVIEWED HERE FIRST! - Bailey's FIRST EVER campervan, the Ford Transit Endeavour B62

Peter Vaughan went to Morocco to live in the prototype of Bailey's brand-new campervan, the rear lounge Endeavour B62. Here's a sub-£70k 'van with a very high spec as standard, even including the automatic gearbox. Its popular two-berth layout has a large lounge, making into single beds or a king-sized double, while the H3 Transit creates extra storage and more headroom onboard.

The ford transit is an excellent and under utilised vehicle in the campervan market. Motorhomes based on this chassis are very popular, hopefully we will see more vehicles like this . Far superior to the sevel vans which dominate this sector of the market. Another first class review Peter, it's a tough job jetting of to Morocco, you suffer for your art sir 😂👍

Can't help but feel slight disappointed that this is yet another "proven" rear lounge layout. I would love to see more UK convertors compete with the Euro companies offering rear fixed bed options. I reckon there's a decent number of folks who want a van bigger than a Transporter/Transit Custom with a decent sized garage for storing kit instead of a lounge.

I also like the seperation of space so that you have a dedicated sleeping area and another seating/eating place. When your end lounge is also your bedroom you both have to go to bed and get up at the same time and you also have the hassle with bedding & cushion juggling every morning & night.

I agree, thought Peter did mention a 2nd layout not shown. I am on my 2nd rear lounge Auto Sleeper but my next PVC (6m) will be a rear garage layout which I have only seen on European vans. I am looking at Adria, it's only their availability that has stopped me so far.

There's already huge choice in the fixed bed camper market, so I don't blame Bailey for tageting Elddis, Swift and Auto-Trail with this. They'll want to sell in volume. We've reviewed lots of fixed bed models if you look through our playlists.
@macainmhire9149

@@MotorhomeCampervan no doubt that Bailey has other UK converters in their sights. My point is partly that the limited quantities of Continental vans that make it over here every year seem to sell very well. There's clearly a demand for fixed bed layouts, but UK converters (other than smaller/more niche) don't seem interested in meeting it...

Shame people can't tell the difference between sand and rust, but being filmed in a DESERT location you might kick up a bit of sand here and there!! Surely something this big with 1990s velour sofas, carpets, a washroom and a big telly is a motorhome rather than a camper? It looks very old fashioned to me but then I'm a camper fan.
@MotorhomeCampervan
@MotorhomeCampervan 10 месяцев назад
We classify anything based on a panel van as a campervan, coachbuilts as motorhomes. Don't think it's as old-fashioned as some British rivals (a lot less wood) and most buyers of a two-berth will be retirees.

Thanks for the review Peter 🙏 I have questions - what kind of MPG do you generally see on the campervans and motorhomes you review? Would a 2023 model be quite a lot more fuel efficient, than say, a 2013 model? Finally, does a big overcab luton bed bulge on a motorhome drag down fuel efficiency much, compared to a low profile? Thanks mate - you're the rock star of the motorhome reviewing world 🤘
@MotorhomeCampervan
@MotorhomeCampervan 10 месяцев назад
I've never been called a rock star before, so thank you! Much depends on how you drive and the size/weight of the 'van. And, yes, an overcab will probably be 2-3mpg worse than a low-profile (if all else is equal). I've had 16mpg from a 9m tag-axle coachbuilt, up to 40mpg last week from a Renault pop-top. Keeping speed down to 55-60mph will help a lot compared with 70+ (where legal). High 20s should be possible with many coachbuilts, low 30s with most campervans.

Bailey are onto a winner with this one. Elddis and swift owners may switch to bailey when they next buy another van. As for kitchen worktop space i just simply use double sided mounting tape and stick a suitable sized tray on the sink top.

Its a small thing but I wonder why there's no worktop flap. They aren't ideal, but are nevertheless a very useful way of making best use of food prep space. I like the flat floor. There's a lot to be said for H3 in any base vehicle, only downside being a marginal mpg hit I guess. It would be nice to see a version using the limited slip diff spec Ford offer (4wd being overkill in Europe) , but I guess that would only come from a specialist builder.

At 5min 10sec looking at the water tanks under the vehicle, the sill seam and body drain hole looks like it's starting to rust already. I know this is a test vehicle and probably done some miles but one thing that kills camper vans is rust. So for 70k I'd expect some serious protection before it rolls onto the road.

I am very surprised to hear Peter say he "much much" prefers a Ford Transit over a Fiat Ducato, given that pretty much every PVC you see is a Ducato/Boxer. I have always thought that converters were using Transits only because of supply issues with Ducato's.

Totally odd layout. You sit there with your back to the view ! Or twisting your head to the side. And you have no meaningful garage. And you have to make up the bed every night. And that pedestal dining table wobbling about … not good. A 1.84m wide bed is lovely … getting bedding that size will be interesting That window behind the sliding door - it’s only a matter of time before it gets sliced off by the sliding door. Like the shower door solution 👍 That worktop extension is the only thing preventing cooking splashes going onto the sofa/bed

Shocking orange peel on that paintwork, but I realise that's Ford not Bailey's doing. Ditto the rust already showing on the sills around the waste water tap. Also, all those vents etc on the roof are nice for light and ventilation, but it hasn't left enough room for sufficient solar, 80W is pathetic these days, esp for use in the UK. Then you see the dated looking seating and interior 🤑 All in all it smacks of a cheap and cheerful backstreet budget conversion, a van for the 1990s not the 2020s 👎 Strike this off my NEC shopping list.
