For confused beginners (like me until I did a quick Google search) : Cold throw: the aroma given by an un-lit candle Hot throw: The aroma given by a lit, or hot, candle So a good cold throw means the candle smells good un-lit A good hot throw means the candle smells good when lit This highlights yet another important thing to look for during the testing phase. Thanks so much for this great video, I love your channel and have binge watched multiple videos as well as subscribed :)
You should keep some coffee beans on the side when smelling anything! Between each sniff test, smell the coffee beans. It clears the scent from your nose!!!
You prolly dont give a shit but does someone know a method to log back into an Instagram account..? I was stupid lost the login password. I would love any assistance you can offer me
@Kayden Maximiliano thanks so much for your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Takes a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
Love your channel!! I always buy from different candle companies myself. I like to see all the different scents and compare them. Wholesale Supplies is about 20 minutes away from me!!👍🏼👍🏼 I really enjoy them, Aztec and Candlescience is great also! Thank you for being so inspiring and sharing helpful videos for us!!❤️❤️
This is great! I watch several other channels and no one has anything like this. Will save me on buying samples. Smell like many other things are subjective, but it still gives me a place to start and I can always go and try others on my own afterwards.
This was so helpful, thank you so much! I love all of your videos. I just started a candle business and you have sped up the process beyond comprehension! Thank you!
The coffee scent does smell yummy and strong like you say. I call my coffee wax melts (Java House). I'm so excited to mix two scents for more exotic tropical scents with black currant and white tea scent. So many fragrances are so beautiful. I plan to make birthday and Christmas wax melts in small baskets with teddy bears and other goodies. Thank you for this awesome review. I feel your sincerity🍓
As a soapmaker, I’ve learned never to use OOTB as an appropriate test. FOs are meant to be tested in soap or wax. They smell very different 99% of the time.
I just looking for good fragrance oils and I buy from mystic moment Smell is amazing but some are axcelarete the soap owfully . They do not write details about their behavior and I keep tracking buyer reviews😥😥😥 If you recommend a good website with good prices
Thank you for posting this, I love seeing fragrance oil reviews. I'm a soap maker and I'm always looking for new scents. I wanted to mention, the California Candle White Tea fragrance might have been reformulated, I'm not sure the time frame between your purchases, but there was a fire a few years ago at a fragrance manufacturer. A lot of fragrance suppliers needed to find new distributors and ended up having their scents reformulated by another manufacturer. Or maybe it was reformulated due to the company moving away from using phlalates. I'd reach out to them and ask.
You’re welcome! Oh wow that could have been it. I brought it up to the employee though and he seemed genuinely confused and said that there could have been sun exposure. Either way I found a white tea from candlescience that I like better ☺️
So enjoyed this video! Shipping is an issue for me due to where I live, so I was really happy when I went to California candle supply they were running a special buy five 16oz and shipping is free. Of course this cost is built into the cost of the fragrance but the fragrance is always the same price before and after the sale. Something to think about when you build your business model.
I'm so glad to have found out about VA candle supply through your channel over the past couple months. I live in VA and their shipping is a lot cheaper for me than NG and others. Also I've been impressed with their customer service and that the vast majority of their fragrances don't have phthalates or prop 65 ingredients. When I called them I told them I heard about their company through your channel. I'm glad you've given some some attention on youtube. :)

I’ve noticed that Aztec candles, Virginia candle supply and even cal candle supply don’t supply internationally so it’s no use for small businesses outside the US.
Thanks for the video!! In order to receive a particular scent as a sample from Flaming Candle, this is the way--"You are welcome to request a particular fragrance at checkout in the notes section or leave it blank for a surprise sample".
Thank u so much for helping us to make our own candles. I always enjoy FO but it makes me feel headache sometimes. Could u please tell me how do u avoid that when making candles. Love u xoxo 💕
Memory Box Candle Co it’s a great company, they have really fast shipping and everything is priced well. I don’t always like their fragrances though. For example Coconut Lime Verbena is awful! I’ve purchased that fragrance from other companies and it’s smells just like it but VC doesn’t smell anything like it so I have an 8oz bottle full that I won’t use lol
Hi, Erica, thanks for sharing Your experience. Have you seen, after burning the candle, that the colour of the soy wax turns greenish? Normally it turns a Little different, obviously... I noticed it in a particular Fragrance. The amount is 10% of Fragrance. And one additive to improve hardness and burning. Hope you ilumina te me! 🤓 Saludos from Argentina
If you haven’t yet you TOTALLY have to try “Pumpkin Chai” from CS!! The HT on it is literally so so so insanely strong and it’s just awesome! I can’t recommend it enough! (and while i’m commenting i’m only 3:03 in so hopefully you don’t mention it later and i look dumb 🤣)
Is it difficult to keep up with the measurements and percentages since you use fragrances from different brands? Also, do you have any videos about how you pace yourself when you get an influx of orders? That's what makes me anxious about starting a candle business, I worry if I'll be able to keep up
No because I use the same percentage and measurements with every scent :) I don’t! And that’s probably because it hasn’t happened to me yet 😅 but once it does I will definitely make a video!
It’s just taking your FO weight number and doing a certain percentage of each scent! For example: If your FO weight is 12 grams and you want to do a 33% ratio between 3 scents, you would use 4 grams of each scent. 4/12 = 33% Check out this video hopefully it helps ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kInTMuF3_NQ.html
Maybe a White Tea from Bramble Berry would be a good one. Not a candle maker, I make soap. So I’m not able to translate from one to another. However, Bramble Berry has good quality for both of our crafts
In the comment section is where you chose your sample with Flaming Candles. I think it's right before you confirm your order. That said one time I did order and didn't see it but all the other 746283784 times I"ve ordered I see it lol
I’m kinda worried about my candle scents. Is it necessarily important to have Top note in the candles? because the scent which i’m working on right now I kinda don’t want any citrus, tea, lavender etc., (which is belong to Top note.) on the scent. do you have any advice ? Can i use only mid and base notes for my scents??
Great video quick question how do you manage your candles during the hot summer ... I know in California oc south area gets hot ... I am worried how to manage if I do farmer market in the summer with soy...
Thank you! Honestly I have only been making candles since September, and I haven’t shipped or sold them at events yet. I have heard that not a lot of people have that many issues, but I guess it really depends on how hot it gets outside and the melting point of your wax
Do you like doing a video if you haven't already on candle terms like low heat throw High heat throw Heathrow stuff like that. Asomugha of the pours stuff you mention I don't understand either
Great video! Thanks for sharing! I have a question, when your fragrance oil provider discontinues a fragrance oil that you are using for one of your candles that you have in your candle line, what do you do? Do you look for a new provider to search for a simmilar fragrance oil? Or what happens?
Ok, pro tip, you need to try the fragrance in a candle. Smelling out of the bottle doesn't work. Fragrance never smells the same in the product as it does in the bottle. Still love your channel, very entertaining.
🙋♀️ Question! So, when you purchase a fragrance from a company, is the idea that you will be changing the name of the fragrance for your own products? Example - the fragrance "Buttered Rum" could be called "Hot Buttery Goodness" for your own business? Or, how does that work?
Im still so disappointed at how weak the HT is for Cali coffee house lol. I cant wait to find a good coffee scent, so if anyone has any suggestions pls let me know haha. Also I’m surprised you thought donuts with Santa smelled pretty sweet (?) lol I have it too and it smells like an unglazed donut I don’t know how to explain it but it’s very plain. Maybe I got a dud? You said you really like the vanilla, do you think it smells creamy? Like cupcakey, buttercream type of vanilla and not like the vanilla extract kind of vanilla?? I like it but I kinda wish it smelled like a different kind of vanilla because I have buttercream from Nature’s Garden and it smells exactly the same as calcandlesupply’s vanilla. I mix it with lavender fields and it smells soooo nice, you should try it. Lmk what you think.
I know I'm disappointed too because it smells amazing out of the bottle! I would definitely research different coffee scents from at least 3 different suppliers, or 1 oz. samples and test them all to see which is best! I really loved the way Christmas donuts smelled out of the bottle, so maybe you did get a dud or it's just not a scent you like! Ohhhh mixing vanilla and lavender sounds AMAZING! Do you have any favorite floral scents?
Memory Box Candle Co yeah I think I’m gonna do that til I find the right one or just get the coffee scent you mentioned in the video LOL. And the donut one didn’t smell sweet at all, I’m going there either tomorrow or Saturday, so I’m gonna try to smell it again lol maybe this time they have a good batch of it. As for florals, I really like jasmine, ylang-ylang, plumeria, and I also like the way rose smells from CCS. I just wish they are more consistent when it comes to the quality of their FOs. At this point I’m starting to think it’s a hit or miss and I’m actually thinking about not buying oils from there so it’s not a risk everytime lol. I recently tried Aztec candle supply and so far so good! I have oils coming in tomorrow and on Saturday from flaming candle and CandleScience. I’m so excited for CS because I’ve heard nothing but great things about their FOs!
Memory Box Candle Co oh wait you know what I ended up doing with my Cali coffee house? Lol I mixed it with pumpkin pie (that’s also from CCS) and turned it into a wax melt. Honestly it wasn’t that bad lol it comes through more when mixed with pumpkin pie, making it smell like a rich, but not overly creamy PSL.
I really need to get jasmine, and try plumeria! I agree, I wish they were more consistent. I really love some of their scents, and really dislike some of them too. Aztec is great and hopefully you will love the flaming candle! I think it’s my favorite so far! What funny is I’ve never actually ordered from candlescience yet!
hi! can you please put links on the store where i can buy online? i am new to your channel and want to start making scented candles at home. I need materials on how to make candles.
Omg girl thank you for this video!! I’m about to place an order and was about to get vanilla bean Noel lol!!! So how do you test all these scents in a candle? Like how much do you typically mix for testing?
Memory Box Candle Co oh ok great! So I meant like how many candles do you typically make to test a new scent/wax? Like do you mix up 1/2 lb wax? I just feel like I’m wasting so much dang money testing products lol!
Oh! Usually I’ll only do one candle when testing a scent! I’ll check for the HT and to make sure the wick is burning properly with the FO. :) When I make candles, all of my calculations are based off of each individual jar, not by the pound 💜 saves so much more wax!
Hi Erica. Took the plunge. The Flaming candle was #1 in my realm of feasible supplies/shipping fees right now other then the f/o. Have a cart via Candle Science for scents fyi there's a half price sale on samples. Personally wasn't interested in starting out utilizing sample sizes but realized maybe a few won't hurt especially at this price point...Would like to incorporate at least 2-3, 4 or 8 oz scents but unsure of what's hot right now in the soy candle world. LOL...Any advise would be appreciated. Thank you...
Congrats! Honestly you will probably find that you will want to order 1 oz sample sizes, because that is the best way to test multiple scents (CT, HT, etc). It may seem like a waste of money, but it's definitely not! Not all of the scents that you order in your first shipment will be "winners" just keep that in mind :) I'm going to be launching with 4-5 scents, and then add in new ones every week. I would definitely recommend checking out etsy and looking at the reviews to see which scent is being purchased the most!
@@MemoryBoxCandleCo Do you find it best to order two of each scent in the 1oz. size so you can at least make two candles with them? Assuming that most FO's allow up to 10% maximum FO?
I think finding smells is the hardest part. Smell is subjective and I cannot stand most of the mass produced scents out there - not to mention some of them give me migraines. But ordering one ounce at a time by description is killing me. I did find a well priced fragrance sampler and half the smells are terrible so I don't want to do cheap oils but trying to find That smell one ounce at a time is driving me nuts. We need a scent exchange for candle makers.
Hi I am in the deciding phase of making candles and maybe starting my own candle making business,I was just wondering would it be best to start off with a candle making kit and go from there since ive never made them and if so which company would you recommend? Please let me know iam so interested,I love your tutorials...
Hi! That’s awesome :) I would 100% recommend starting off with a starter kit if you have never made them before. First determine what kind of wax you want to work with (soy, coconut, paraffin, etc) and then choose a kit! I just updated some links to a few different starter kits from reputable candle suppliers in the description box. Maybe one day I’ll make my own candle starter kit! ☺️ Thank you for watching!
@@MemoryBoxCandleCo ok thank you so much,I will definitely check them out and yes making your own candle starter kit would be great, thanks a bunch for all your help😘
Virginia Candle Supply is like 5 minutes from me. I chose to use their products so I could avoid shipping. I wish I wouldn't have. Their oils seem watered down and the throw is absolutely horrible. I thought I just sucked at making candles and gave up. Someone told me to try oil from a different company and I couldn't believe the difference. If you check their reviews they are really bad.
I too am local to va candle supply. The last couple of times I've been in there the customer service (from the owner) was not great at all! The fragrances have also changed since I started using them (due to being local and having a huge array of fragrances 2 years ago) have you found a better place to get the fragrances? If you don't mind me asking. I do make tarts, soaps and sugar scrubs with the fragrances.
Thank you for your helpful video on the scents. I just started making candles and made my 1st trip to Calif. Candle Supply, I live about 20 min from them..I am going to try the Coconut wax from them and I picked up 3 different scents. What wax do you use?
That’s awesome that you live so close!! Let me know how you like the coconut wax I’ve never tried it before :) I use the soy # 10! What scents did you get?
Oh yeah.. how did your big bottle of white tea smell? You said it smelled different compared to the sample bottle that you got. I got an 8 oz bottle of that and it smelled heavenly lol I love it.
It honestly smelled sour.. or like it had gone bad in a weird way? I really want to try it again because I absolutely loved how it smelled out of the bottle. Have you tested it yet? Does it have a nice HT?
Ive bought from Candle Source here in Ohio! I bought everything id need from Amazon to make wax melts and candles.....UGHH! I ordered Maple oil...and Gingerbread...those don't smell good AT ALL. I did however buy 2 16oz bottles of Pumpkin Pecan Waffle....MYYY FAV OIL AND Candle from BBW....however my candle using that oil.....CANT SMELL IT 1 BIT IN MY CANDLE😔 Ive spent so much money on oils and candle making and now have no desire for my time and efforts in making anything!
Try the Pumpkin pecan waffle from Fragrance Buddy ,Promise you will absolutely love it and it is so strong ,great hot throw . Hang in there don't give up any great suppliers out there .
Another pro tip, the fragrance oils are not made by the companies you are buying them... Get their IFRA Data sheet, and it will have the manufacturers name... Then you know the fragrance is identical, it's made by the same company. Lol.
@@kaitst6735 if it is a reputable provider they would have it listed on their website. I would suggest that you verify that they will provide it to you, before you make your purchase. 🤷🏻♂️
