Hello Beautiful People!
Today's video is all about how I personally choose my fragrance oils, pouring temps, fragrance loads and more!
Quick Tip: Please keep an open mind when choosing suppliers. I have to switch things up because one supplier may be sold out of the ingredient or supply that I need. So, do your research. I have done my research and chosen the suppliers that work best for my brand and business needs. I check for quality and efficacy to ensure I am using the BEST ingredients and materials to create my candles.

Hi Paris, great video with helpful tips! I've been working on my candle line and have definitely been paying attention to the temperature of wax, when to pour, fragrance load, etc. Creating custom, unique blends is also key to standing out! Its all coming together but my biggest challenge now is...sourcing some of these supplies 😭. Everyone seems to be out, and I mean OUT. Again, great video and looking forward to more content 👍🏾.
@ParisNikkole

Thank You! 😊 Yes, there is a huge shortage! When I started my candle business I ordered a few pounds of wax for testing. Once I launched I relied heavily on the analytical data that Shopify provides to determine what my customers were most interested (scents, vessel colors, jar or tins). I then placed a bulk order for those supplies so that I wouldn't have an issue with supply and demand. Also, after testing with several different waxes I made a decision on the wax I was going to use and ordered more than 400 pounds of wax! Also, If you did not know, you can reach out to your suppliers and ask if you can place an order in advance. This will put you at the top of the list, once they are back in stock. Many Blessings to you on your journey!

Hello first I love your videos and thank you for sharing your experience it’s helped me so much. I am currently in the testing phase of my business (almost ready to start sending my candles out to others to start testing them 🙌🏾). I currently use the Cocoa apricot cream from WW also and I just received my first presto pot for VDay (which I’m still getting use to 😂). I am current using black candle tins (8 oz). Do you ever hit your up first or do you heat up your pouring pitcher? I’ve noticed (as you mentioned in the video) that my temp is dropping super fast. I’m not sure if I need to heat up my wax in the presto put to a higher temp or try to pour fast. Any advice? Sorry for the long comment 😂
@ParisNikkole
@ParisNikkole 2 года назад
No worries at all! I am here to help. First, yes to the presto pot! It is soooo needed in my opinion! 🙌🏾 Tip for candle wax temperature dropping so fast would be to place your pouring pitchers in a shallow bucket of warm/hot water water while allowing the wax to melt in your presto pot. Then take the pouring pitcher out of the water and pour the wax, this will definitely help! This is actually my method because it is so frustrating when I begin to pour a candle and because the pitcher is so cool the wax begins to solidify which means instead of my candle being 12oz it is now 11oz. So, try this and let me know if that helps. Also, for safety purposes, I wouldn't recommend heating the wax above 190 - 200 degrees because the wax can catch fire, may change color, separate, or have a burnt smell which will affect your fragrance.

thanks for the info! girl, i noticed apricot wax is sold out everywhere! can you make a video on what do when supplies are scarce? same with candle jars. if you have a specific look/type that you use but all the suppliers are out of stock, what do you do? order a completely new type of jar?
@ParisNikkole
@ParisNikkole 3 года назад
Yes! Oh my goodness, there is such a shortage. This is the reason I try to source out several suppliers that are eco-friendly, natural, clean, etc. For my vessels, I have found suppliers who offer very similar jars in gold, white and black but I try to purchase in bulk. If you are already up and running your store, make sure you are looking at the analytics and keeping tabs on what your customers are purchasing more of, how frequently are they purchasing and then calculate the lead times for your suppliers and make a bulk order. I used to work in supply chain and have been a data analyst for some of the top CPG companies in the world so I learned a lot about supply and demand and customer analytics.

Hi Paris! love the videos btw! you're amazing for sharing these tips with us. I am wondering is there a formula that you used to that is used to determine how much wax should go into the vessel? My goal is to use possibly 8oz vessels and maybe offer a 12oz. But I am also running into issues with the vessels that I love being sold out everywhere .
@ParisNikkole
@ParisNikkole 3 года назад
Thanks so much love! There is a formula that I used but this was not enough fragrance oil so I took it up a couple of percentage points. You have to figure out the ounces of wax you will be using. For me that was (12 oz) x (10% fragrance) which gave me 1.2 oz of FO for 12oz of wax. Now the standard is 6% fragrance for every pound of wax but that didn't work for me. This can be adjusted up or down depending on the type of wax you're using and personal preference. The maximum amount of fragrance oil recommended is listed in the Properties section of each type of wax. For wooden wick co. coco apricot creme wax the recommendation is Fragrance Load: 9-10% fragrance load but it can safely handle up to 12%. When I tested, I did 9%, 10%, 11% and 12% and 10% was perfect! 12% caused liquid to form at the top and 9% was not strong enough. Hope this helps!
@RabeccaZavala
@RabeccaZavala 8 месяцев назад
Hello! I mean no disrespect, and I love your videos. I noticed your math is off. If your fill weight is 12 oz and you want a fragrance load of 10%, the formula is your fill weight (12 oz) divided by 100%+10% (or simply 1.1) which equals 10.909 oz. Subtract that from your fill weight (12 oz) which gives you 1.091 oz of fragrance oil instead of 1.2 oz You are correct that 10% of 12 is 1.2, but the fragrance load is the percentage of the oil in the wax. If that makes sense. You are actually using between 11%-12% fragrance load. Still safe levels, but not 10%. Otherwise, your formula would yield 13.2 oz of liquid, which would be too much for your jar.

@StupidChannelThing

I read that at 180 to 185 degrees the wax expands the most allowing the fragrance oil to stick to it more, so that is the best temperature to add the fragrance oil, especially for soy coco wax blend... does it work for you to do it at 160/165 degrees? I feel like fragrance wouldn't be strong enough

Thanks for sharing. Are there plenty of fragrance oils that are good for candles AND perfume making? I feel like a lot of sites only make it clear whether it’s for soap or candles. Sometimes I see the word “beauty,” does that include perfume?
@ParisNikkole
@ParisNikkole 3 года назад
Hi Abraham, I wish I could help you with this one but I don't know much about perfume making. I am certain that if the oils were okay to use in perfumes, it would definitely be listed on the manufacturers site. I believe beauty probably references being able to use the oils in body butters, soaps, etc. I would do a bit more research on this one. Wish I could help you more! Best of Luck!

California has different regulations compared to other states. oehha.ca.gov/proposition-65/proposition-65-list Check out this link. It lists all of the chemicals that are apart of this Act. Hey Lakisha! I’d say try the pillar candle method, but use container wax and probably add some SP487 wax if you’re using coco apricot wax or a coconut wax , SP487 will make it a little harder. So probably go on Etsy and find a silicone mold that has the inner dimensions as your candle vessel and just pour the wax into the silicone mold, let it cool, harden and then remove it from the mold and that should give you your candle refill! Hope this helps! 🙂👍🏾

I am not sure how to actually make a fragrance oil from scratch, using essential oils. Not sure how the process works. In general, when using an essential oil in a beauty product, you would mix the essential oil with a carrier oil. Not sure what the process is for suppliers who mix fragrance oils with essential oils.
