Hi everyone. Apologies for the longer video today, so much to review on this one. I will make a mental note to stop saying "naan bread" as well. In Yorkshire tomorrow, looking forward to it. Hope you enjoy the video!
I agree. No sensational headlines, no clickbait nonsense. And you don't spend half the video waffling on the way to the restaurant. Well done Gary, keep them coming. Great to see you getting out of London and into the sticks too.😀
@@hacendado3840 The sticks!!! It was in Balham !!!!! No only joking, Gary's out of London vlogs have been constantly brilliant, and so well filmed, one or two of them, were quite unusual in settings
@@hacendado3840 Do you still point at aircraft ( almost a joke there) And look behind the television to catch the little people coming out. Again only in fun,we (?) believe any place not the smoke,London and North of Watford is the back of beyond .Cheers 🥂 and thanks for taking the time and trouble to read and reply to me. Take Care Allan&Family
Balham is my 'maternal home' base. We visit; first stop - Indian Room. Close enough to the railway station. You got me at 'let's give it a go.' Eight of us pile in, and its like they are greeting old friends. Agree with everything you said about the place. Thanks for taking us along. Perfect review. Perfect resteraunt!
My new favourite food review channel. I like that you break down the value for money element of the meals you review and not just the quality of the food. Also, go ahead and call it naan bread - I give you permission on behalf of the asian community lol. Anyone who's that pedantic about language isn't worth bothering with.
I appreciate that Shahid, many thanks! It's been a habit my whole life and was educated on it a few years ago but kept doing it. Thank you mate and I'm wishing you all the best.
Congratulations on the 20K Gary. What a milestone and you got there faster than anyone could blink. Its all down to your great honest reviewing mixed from McDonalds to Harrods, broadcast quality camerawork, and getting to know all your subscribers. This is without a doubt the best You Tube food channel & now roll on 30K !!!!
Agreed, and what a career you’re forging for yourself. Hopefully soon you’ll be paid to eat food. Life’s true holy grail! Couldn’t happen to a more deserving bloke. Much love from Norfolk.
The combination of honesty, fair criticism, always giving additional credit to good service and good British humour makes this channel so enjoyable to watch, loving the content!
Wow! Just wow! That meal just looked absolutely delicious, mate! Another brilliant video. We all love you, but not enough credit goes to Mr Cameraman. He does an excellent job of making the dishes look their very best. Top lad. And don’t worry about what you call naan’s, Gary. Honestly, such pedantry is immediately forgotten as soon as we see the glee with which you eat and enjoy the food. Cheers, mate!
Another fantastic video Gary I dont have a problem with the length of the video as it was a pleasure to watch from start to finish. As a few people have commented the best food reviewer on RU-vid that I have watched by a mile. And congratulations on smashing the 20k subscribers well done.
*Completely incredible food here- definitely living up to its reputed reputation 👌👌🔥👏🏻👏🏻* Congratulations on reaching 20k subscribers- this is the trending channel for sure, and totally worthy, between you presenting your findings and the superior footage and editing ,your popularity is superb and I am here to watch you reach heights and more delicious food content. P.s- star of the show has to be those incredible lamb chops. Wow…
Hey Gary, wow what a review, absolutely fantastic, your vlogs are such a pleasure to watch, the wife and I always look forward to watching them. Yet again another fantastic Indian restaurant you have uncovered, every item on your vast order😂 looked absolutely top class. You are such a breath of fresh air to watch, no ego, always varied venues, consistency in all your reviews and come across to the viewers as a thoroughly decent guy, well done Gary and keep up the superb work 👏
Gary, your channel is brilliant! You are a natural presenter. Also the Phaal Curry challenge is a great idea. But be careful. A similar challenge many years ago resulted in a contestant being carried out of the curry house! 😅
When I was a student, if someone called "The Curry" it was mandatory for all to go as one and eat. Obviously, after many drinks and boasts, a wager was set for anyone who could complete a Phaal. This chap heroically completed his task, but collapsed soon after, having to be carried out and took home. He was, thankfully, okay.@@GaryEats
That was a great review Gary. Beautiful environment, obviously top service and the quality of the food was outstanding. Certainly worth the money. Glad you enjoyed the experience, we all enjoyed the video. Don’t spoil things by trying the hottest curries possible, it may spoil your view of the restaurant you’re in and your appetite!!! That was perfect and hope you had some left over to take home 👍👍👍
Well done on the 20,000 subscribers, not surprised. Excellent videos, great variety. The Indian meal looked excellent, I'm lucky as been to about 40 different ones around the North East and never had a bad one. Been a while since I've been for an Indian, due to one. Birthday coming up, going to Newcastle for weekend so will try one up there (or the Brazilian steak restaurant). Keep up the great work 👍👍👍👍👍
Hi Gary glad you are wrapping up warm. The sauces looked good with the poppadoms a lot too. Love Mango chutney. Presentation of the main meals look great. Both meals looked great will definitely be paying the Indian Room a visit and thank you so much for the review. I wouldn't have gone to that restaurant but thanks to you I will be there! and soon! glad you gave it 10/10. Gary DO THE CHALLENGE!
Great video as always Gary. I've got to say Indian food is by far my favourite and that all looked fantastic! Well done yet again on finding these little gems 👍
Im loving the excellent camera work on those dishes, and the music - a really professional job there Gary. That restaurant isnt too far from me and its now on my list !! The meal looked excellent and the all British ingredients is a real plus for me.
Gary I hope you are taking some of the curry home! The meal looks delicious I love a good curry and this one looked delicious 😋 Once again an honest unbiased review.Value for money 💰
Have seen this place reviewed by various RU-vidrs and everyone really rates it. Lamb chops, naan, rice and poppadoms all looked top Notch. Love the idea of 30% off at quieter times. Another grea vlog Gary and only a couple of trains away from me.
What a brilliant channel and style of review. Thanks so much for doing this, whilst I don’t live in London, I really appreciate these reviews. I feel as though I am eating the food vicariously. I watched it whilst eating a home made (fairly authentic - lots of garlic and vinegar) chicken vindaloo.
Gary, I'm addicted to your channel! What I love about you is you are quite obviously a foodie before you are a vlogger. And more importantly, I've been to a lot of the places you have reviewed and find myself very much in line with your opinions on these places! Keep up the great work Gary, you have a new fan in me!
Another great review Gary, true and honest. When I saw you using a knife and fork eating the lamb chops I thought omg noooo, but you picked it up and munched on it 😂 chops looked gorgeous. Love the curry reviews you do, need more. Well done.
What a lovely selection of dishes you can tell they have put alot of love into the food really liked the music in the intro Gary nice chilled out vibes and the atmosphere looks relaxed and soothing when I go out to eat this is exactly how I want my eating out experience to be superb!
I have never been so jealous in all my life it looked amazing The starter looked out of this world Im mean but that meal looked worth every penny Ive finished writing and im still as jealous as hell
New subscriber. First comment as I have been playing catch up with your videos. I can see why you have so many subscribers, your honesty and enthusiasm is fantastic. My only complaint is I watch your videos during the night as I have insomnia but then I'm starving so want food. Seriously though keep up the good work, love from Scotland.
Wow Gary and Mr Cameraman what can i say on this review. You really did hit a 10 out of 10 place, and with that pre booking of 30% off, you got a 5 star curry for two for £20 a head, NO ONE can criticise that. I must admit im a big Lamb man and so love Tandoori Lamb chops, and it appears you hit on some mouth watering ones here. I absolutely loved the presentation of the food, and those extra touches of the garnish on the top really show the place cares, also hot plates are such a must for myself, and you certainty got them. All fresh all local no artificial colours or preservatives, its a no brainer for me a defiant 10. Oh re the Phall curry, don't do it my friend, its more of a challenge than a nice food experience, and oh my goodness will you regret it the next day. I have been told some vindaloos are pleasant tasting, but even im not that brave. Chris.
I think you're absolutely spot on Chris. It seems like a lot for one but easily two people could have had that. Glad you liked the video and I'm happy that like myself, you love a bit of lamb. Spot on, an easy 10. I am worried about the Phaal challenge and I appreciate you looking out for me! I like a Vindaloo. All the best mate and I hope you're well.
Chris I must admit I love watching Gary's videos but I also love scrolling to the comments and seeing your post video narration on the review/food, please keep it up
@@bonkyo That's most kind of you my friend, Gary is a top man and i love his clips and honesty. At the same time Mr Cameraman does some amazing filming and shots, he is such a great part of this duo. Chris.
Great achievement Gary . Very popular videos. Great Indian restaurant ,quality quality food great presentation , a bit pricey but sometimes you got to pay cheers
Fantastic review. Deserved a longer video imo. I say go for the challenge. I like a bit of spicier spice in my Indian food every now and then - within reason of course. While I was eating a bowl of spicy Dal in a restaurant in Austria tears were flowing down my face but I was in heaven. My better half thought I was torturing myself but I was getting a real kick out of the tasty food!
The British Isles have some awesome curry houses. Scotland are up there , Birmingham renowned for them but.....the further South I travel the better they get. I always tell my son I've travelled down to see him , I have but it's always to share a curry together as I'm at home with the best company and food there is 👍 Straight 10 mate.
“…as always…”… excellent review and explaining what aspects are really good. “Top notch, etc, etc”, & absolutely NO faults, then it deserves a 10. Glad you gave it that.
I'll reiterate the other people's comments Gary ...in that you're such a great food vlogger & a thoroughly lovely chap. Love your relaxed style & passion for good varied tucker . Love the vast array of eating establishment's that you've covered thus far . I love a good Dansak too ! Thanks Gary for all the time you take & calories that you consume 😂 to keep us foodies mouths watering . I could well match you appetite wise !
Hi Gary. Next time you get Lamb Chops from an Indian Restaurant just grab it from the bone and tuck in. No knife or fork required. The spices and the bit of meat on the bone are absolutely beautiful. 👍
I'm only 1 minute and 4 seconds in and they've lost a point for paper straws 😂😂😂😂 Edit: in all seriousness, that all looked amazing, well cooked and beautifully presented. I'm not a fan of peshawar naan but glad you enjoyed the meal, looked delicious.
Why have paper straws wrapped in plastic when you can have plastic straws wrapped in paper? Isn't progress wonderful? Planet saved. I had actually spotted the irony of this, before I heard Tom MacDonald rapping about it. People are indeed so stupid.
Another great classy review by yourself Gary. Your reviews really are a class apart from the regular reviewers. Not to knock any of them of course, but credit where its due, truly brilliant reviews. I've not been a fan of indian cuisine, but now i think it's because i have had some not so good Indian meals. I definitely thought i could sample this one, as it all looked simply superb. The lamb chops looked insanely delicious, and the dishes looked mouth watering. I'm not sure you should do the Phaal challenge, but i will watch with great interest if you do! 😊😊
Actually this is 0% Indian and 100% Bangladeshi food, like most "Indian" restaurants in England ; ) It's known as BIR or British Indian Restaurant style. The chefs including this one are nearly always from Bangladesh. Travel to any other country in Europe where Indian people make the food, it's not as good, trust me.
Just what I was going to comment with. Ghee, butter and lard are miles better than seed oils. I've kept my weight down much easier by swapping margarine with butter and I use ghee for cooking food too.
I have to agree, ghee is very good for you, along with dripping and lard. It is actually seed oils that are very bad for us, they become unstable in the process of trying to get the minuscule amount of oil from the seed, and that makes them extremely unhealthy for the body. On my Masters degree in health, one of our colleagues who had a farm, made his own ghee. When we tested our cholesterol, as part of our studies, his was the best out of all of us, and on more research, we all saw that animal fats are indeed the best for us. Sorry about the lesson, but I just thought I’d put my two penn’orth in 😂! I love your reviews by the way 😊
What a gem Gary, I like that you found a place that doesn't use ghee and create their own fresh spice mix and local produce. My mother in law who stays up in London occasionally is loving all eateries that you've recommended. She's looking forward to trying this place. I'm based in Reading so I rarely go to London but I'll give it go next time in around that area. Good find Gary, and good price.
It looks like you had an excellent Indian meal and i am quite envious to put it mildly because my favourite local Indian changed hands and the standard has dropped.Your Tabdoori lamb chops would have been the hightlight for me as they looked delicious. As always you do a fair review
Not sure about the Phaal challenge Gary - you’re a braver man than me! Congrats on 20k subscribers, richly deserved. I continue to enjoy your honest, down to earth reviews. Keep up the good work! If I might make a suggestion for your next Indian restaurant review (excluding the mad Phaal challenge of course), Black Salt in North Sheen is (in my humble opinion, and - perhaps more importantly! - that of my wife) truly excellent - quite possibly the best Indian food we’ve ever had in London. Strongly recommend it and would be interested to see your take on it. Anyway, congrats again on reaching 20k subscribers, and looking forward to all the reviews to come. Cheers.
@@GaryEatsIt might be in the Michelin Guide, but it isn’t starred. Very, very good though - on the pricier side for a neighbourhood Indian restaurant, but well worth a try.
Hi Gary - this looks a fantastic place; I do like ghee though (it's a good natural oil, unlike a lot of commercial seed oils) ... but otherwise it's a bit wow! The homade pickles look exceptional and the roast popadums again look and sound fantastic. Now the lamb chop starters - again it looks stunning :) Your face was a picture! Looks as though it was an OMG moment. The main courses look epic - generous portions and your description of the flavours makes me want to book a flight back to the UK! I hope you took a lot home for later, as you mentioned. The bread and rice looked fantastic too. I am really impressed as you obviously were. As ever Gary, a fantastic review - you really take the viewer on the journey with you. 10/10 deserved.
Hi Gary, off the back of your review I tried this restaurant on Thursday evening during my annual London trip, Wow, I was not disappointed. I agree the coriander dip is superb. I went for the chicken rogan Josh which was by far one of the best I have had. Thanks for your great review and recommendations, keep up the good work.
Was cooking spag Bol tonight, but after watching this I’ve just ordered a curry takeaway! Your guna cost me a fortune at this rate!! I must remember to watch you post dinner!! Enjoy Yorkshire!
Gary, because of this review, my girlfriend and I are going to check this place out in the new year and can’t wait! I’ve been following your channel for a few months and I love your relaxed yet no nonsense approach. What I also admire is the realistic nature of how you approach every review in terms of value for money which I’m sure a lot of people who follow you can agree is invaluable at times like this. If you are ever in the Guildford area, I highly recommend and would love to hear your thoughts on a Spanish restaurant called La Casita. All the best Gary, and Merry Christmas to you and your family. 👍
You’re very kind my friend - hope you have a wonderful time. The lamb chops are truly incredible. I will add it to my list. Have a wonderful Christmas 🎄
Looked fantastic! All your reviews make the food so mouth watering to look at. You do the best reviews with a great smile on your face, good luck to you👍
Thanks for this video, Gary! Last night I ordered a delivery meal from IR, and, by Jove, it was awesome. Like you, I ordered the Lamb Dansak, and it was spot on. Just spicy enough, and not too sweet. Paired with a Sag Paneer and a couple of Naans, it was so tasty. The service was very good as well, including a follow up phone call from Abdul, the manager, to check that everything was okay 😃
That looks lovely food. I like that they don't use Ghee in it too which can make some dishes feel very heavy. The coriander dip/sauce looks interesting - never had it but do like coriander. I don't think the prices are too bad nowadays. So about £25ish per person in a restaurant for top quality food seems reasonable. Great review as always Gary. Thanks and good luck if you decide to do the 🌶🌶🌶 challenge!
That looked amazing Gary, so glad you enjoyed it. I wish London was a little closer so I could try it. Top marks for braving the cream jumper! Excellent content, no apology needed for the length of the video. John
Hi from Australia Gary, another fantastic review. A wonderful meal, so much food, top quality ingredients and great presentation. Price ok for what you got, would have fed 2 or 3 diners. Easy 10/10.
Hello Gary. My favourite review of yours. Amazing !! Yes looks incredible ! I'm definitely gona go if ever around Balham. I also love the beautiful ambience from inside. I'm definitely gona pay this a visit in the near future. Ps. With the phaul challenge ( cant spell or pronounce it sorry ) ! I say maybe dont go for it especially if you dont like overly spicy curries. Personally I cant handle or like them myself and wouldn't ever try. Fantastic review !
That's amazing, everything natural, for me perfect, I have a few allergies. No Ghee, even better. Only problem Iive in the Republic😂. Wonderful looking food, pilau rice is best, naan bread, fab. This gal is a wimp, a Korma is fine for me, from M&S. You took us on a great journey again Gary. Great show. Worth every penny, you certainly enjoyed it. 10 out of 10, well deserved.
Looking forward to you coming over to the Republic, wonderful country as you well know. Coming home to youŕ own country, bet you can hardly wait. Very cold here just now, though at least it's not raining.
I love a Dhansak ! it's my yardstick I use in a new restaurant, I believe if they can make a good Danny then your off to a great start ! and my favourite bread is also the Peshwari Naan closely followed by Keema Naan. The Danny looked great with a good colour and the lentils looked like they were cooked out properly too, and to top it all your comment about not having rice with it is what I prefer as well. Historically speaking back in the day the rice used to come with it for free (still on about Danny's !) but that stopped in the mid nineties I think, and if you wanted breast of chicken you had to ask and it was 50p more ! I guess you remember all this too. Great review...cheers! Phall challenge Hmmm....yeah do it but have a bucket of yoghurt close by !!
Gary I don't think we're the right audience for any variety of school yard "challenges". But love you sharing your insite into english food from all around the region. Regards and delicious menus! Kathy from outback Queensland Australia ❤
Thanks Gary . I live a few miles away and I have been looking for a good Indian restaurant for years. I can’t eat gluten or dairy, however for some reason I’m ok with cooked yogurt. I’m going to check this out and I’m really optimistic. I really miss eating in an Indian restaurant with popadoms and music . Thanks again .
First of all I’m so glad I don’t have to pay your expense account. 😅 Mind you for 2 people it’s not bad especially with the 30% discount. I only tried Indian food about a month ago and I’m a convert. That whole meal looked banging. Excellent review buddy. 👍
That all looked absolutely lovely, apart from the peppers. Hubby Joe would have had a platter of those lamb chops and been happy! Even more so if he got a second platter!!! Nice to see the mango chutney had been blended, as I always hate the lumps. As usual, another great review. Keep up the fantastic work!
Evening Gary👍just wow, that looked sensational. The presentation standard of everything from the poppadoms and rice to the main dishes was amazing, the lamb cutlet arrangement was a piece of art and so well cooked. If it tasted as good as it looked(which seems to be the case) then it could only be a 10. Only slightly disappointed that there was no gilet or 'chips are chips' in this one🤣seriously that looked incredible, as for a phal challenge, I wouldn't fancy it but I'd definitely watch you eat it 🤣cheers mate✌️
Hi Gary good afternoon. yet another great view on Indian food, all of that I can certainly eat again, as I said before what you ordered that would certainly feed two will probably need also a doggy bag to take some home price you are in London. I think still was good value cheers mate your channel is the best reviewing food in my mind Colin from Loughborough 👍
Just discovered your channel and loving it. I live walking distance from the Indian Room but have never been as I thought it was for posh Balham types, I tend to go to Tooting. But on your recommendation I got a takeaway delivered from them, and yes it was superb. Thanks.
Dear Gary, Love your reviews. Must have watched about 15 now. You are exceptionally fair, engaging and watchable. Don't change a thing. Very best, John
Great review Gary, many thanks. The food looked delicious, haven’t had a dansak for ages, must give it a try next time. Only saw part of your menu? It would have been nice to see the range of main courses you were choosing from. Please don’t do the Phal challenge, I wouldn’t like to see you get hurt 🤣 It will just take your brilliant reviews to a theatre level as most viewers wouldn’t eat Phal or even vindaloo! Just find a good place and upgrade to a madras or a rezalla ? 👍
Off the back of this video, we went there yesterday (travelled down from Ipswich). Have to say, by London standards, very good. I too had the lamb dhansak and the lamb was melt-in-the-mouth. Only thing I would say was that I didn't get any sweetness coming through and mixed in some mango chutney to help it along. Great service and ambience though. Would recommend it, and we got a free shot at the end of the meal too (a mint choccy would have finished it off perfectly, we ended up popping over the road to Sainsbury's for some).
Really great review. Sivating in Mumbai. Instead of loading the curry on the naan with a spoon, you can use the naam as a spoon to scoop up the curry - just a suggestion.
Hi Gary, what an Indian Restaurant! food looked amazing and the prices good if you were to have only one main course, reckon you should do the Hall challenge, as you say 'give it a go' Cheers
Gary, so glad I found your channel! I’ve watched lots of your reviews in the past month and enjoyed every one. Oh, please do the Phaal Curry challenge. That would be so much fun! I’ve lived in the States now for almost 50 years but have NEVER come across an Indian restaurant! Keep up the good work!
Hello Mr Gary, hope you are well. Great review, and glad you enjoyed it! Look forward to the next one. By the way, I may as well mention this, but the owner of that restaurant was the Tandoori chef in my Father's restaurant back in 1993. He also owns Indian Moment in Clapham Junction (If it's still there, as I know he recently sold his other Takeaway in Tooting as he's getting a bit old now! Anyway, take care, Gary!👍💯🌟
@@GaryEats. I haven't been inside or dined in there, but I know it's very popular. The last few times I met the owner was usually at certain curry award events as he was into all that stuff! In fairness, his brother is also his business partner, so credit to them both!👍
Gary, once again another great review. Although I winced at first at the prices of the curries, when you said the total could feed two, I was happy. Poppadoms looked fantastic as did the sauces. Never seen a poppadom curled like that! Food looked amazing and wow, do I want one of those lamb chops, even though it’s not even ten am! Hubby Joe would be in his element there!!!
Fantastic video Gary. Another Indian restaurant for you to check out would be Dhaba @49 in Maida Vale. Fantastic Indian food and congratulations on the 20k subs!
Gary. Please do the Phall challenge! Im a lover of the very hot curry and the challenge is to find a Phall that is not just an extra spoon or two of hot chili powder. A nicely blended curry using fresh naga or scorpion type chilli would be a very interesting watch. Love your show and your aproach on the subject too well done.
