Also, I might be crazy in saying this so prove me wrong if you must, it's their heaviest album is it not? The whole album makes me completely pumped. It's on my workout playlist to this day.
@@themetalmeltdownofficial I thought you were going to make an amazing list, after your reviewing of debut as I very much agree it's an overated not-so-good album. How wrong I was, your video turned to trash pretty much immediately after
Release the Kraken! Korn III was named that I believe because Untitled was supposedly the second self titled album. Life Is Peachy is my favorite, it’s so gnarly. I think that if you took the best tracks off Issues and Untouchables and put them in one album you’d have a great album. The production on Take A Look… is confusing and bad I think. Follow The Leader is good but not my favorite and I’d add Pretty, Reclaim My Place, Justin to the list. The first album is a classic. On Korn I find some parts hold up others don’t, but I still love it Ball Tongue slays. The other albums I got outta the game awhile, but returned with Head rejoining. The newest albums are good, but not overly great. I do agree that JD’s performance on The Nothing is terrific. I’m still a fan after all these decades and am still excited about the new release. However, I’m lowering my expectations a bit more each new album it seems.
Weird, I think Issues and Untouchables are better records than follow the leader. With Untouchables being what I think is their best album. Dont get me wrong follow the leader is a great record, but it feels a bit uneven at times. And I think this is the first time someone has said that life is peachy is a bit superior than the self-titled. I feel that their was more maturity on Untouchables that many non korn fans would have taken it back by it. Follow the leader is a double edged sword for the band because on one hand it's what people like about them and what korn haters don't like about them. It's the popular record and people think that's what they only do. I know this a long winded comment but thanks if you read it metal meltdown. Oh and issues has a more pop feel to it than follow the leader does so I do disagree on your opinion. It just feels different.
Absolutely agree with you about Follow The Leader, it's a story of 2 halves, as tbh half the album is filler trash. Hilarious how this guy put it as his number 1 album
I’ve been listening to KoRn since a young age. I’d say they are the one of the first few that started my journey in metal. As now that their 30th anniversary is around the corner I have made a Top 50 songs playlist by them, of songs that truly speak to me. I love KoRn & forever will be Korny af🌽❤️
Gotta say, being that Serenity Of Suffering was the album that made me give this band a second chance in the first place, I wish it'd been ranked higher, but in fairness I do see your point now that I've listened to most of their discography. Also mad props for your choice in rum, Kraken is exceptional 🤘🍺
Korn is amazing because any of their albums can be someone’s favorite. However, considering the first record anything less than a masterpiece is crazy. It started an entire genre, so for that alone it will always stand the test of time.
@@danielelia2256 Shoots and Ladders is an occasional skip for me, but I still agree with you. Daddy I can always play, but once JD starts breaking down I’m out. I pick the needle off the turntable.
I think you're the first person I've come across that doesn't hate Korn III, I might have to revisit it now:D I think Korn's records in the 2000's would've benefitted greatly by just cutting some of the weaker stuff from the bloated tracklists, I actually love a lot of songs on Take A Look In The Mirror and Untouchables, but I never really want to listen to them in full. Except for The Path Of Totality and See You On The Other Side, those records suck absolute ass through and through imo.
Wow, we really have a different opinion, but is nice to see another points of view, this is my rank Korn - 4.5/5 Life is Peachy 2.5/5 Follow The Leader 4.5/5 Issues 5/5 Untouchable - 5/5 Take a Look in the Mirror - 3.5/5 See You on the Other Side - 4/5 Untitled - 3.5/5 Korn 3 - 2/5 Path of Totality - 3/5 Paradigm Shift - 3.5/5 Serenity of Suffering - 4.5/5 The Nothing - 5/5
Hey Mr meltdown, would you consider a best/worst of deftones? A real unique band in that scene. I still listen to Minerva every day. Such an amazing track!
Edgy and stupid? How are songs about bullying, rape, drug addiction ect. Being an edgelord or stupid? It’s their first couple albums of a new type of music. He was pouring his soul out not trying to be a cool kid by being edgy. Sure the music wasn’t streamlined yet but it makes up for it in the raw feeling you get listening to it. I would agree if the “Korn” album was like their 7th the pain was still fresh of a terrible childhood. Calling his lyrics stupid is appalling
for me Korn III is one of the most underrated metal albums in general, the voices on this album are at their highest level and the instruments sound very good especially the synthesizers that are heard on certain songs like Move On or The Past, album amazing possibly my favorite from Korn.
I agree. Funny I always kept up on release dates like most of us with our fav bands So not only I miss it I don’t even listen for another 2 yrs. but once I heard it wow different feel few Heavy but melodic songs Definitely underrated 🔥🔥
I completely disagree with your ranking. Here are my takes: 14. Korn III 4/10 13. Paradigm Shift 5/10 12. The Path of Totality 5.5/10 11. Untitled 6/10 10. See you on the other side 7/10 9. The Nothing 7/10 8. Requiem 8/10 7. Serenity of Suffering 8/10 6. Follow the Leader 8.5/10 5. Untouchables 9/10 4. Take a Look in the Mirror 9/10 3. Life is Peachy 9.5/10 2. Korn 10/10 1. Issues 10/10
My actual rating and with my usual way of rating albums Also with some changed ratings with what I thought of these albums than what I did think of them previously, mostly on the middle part of their discography. Korn - 5/5 - 10/10 Life Is Peachy - 5/5 - My favourite Korn album 10/10 Follow The Leader - 4/5 - 9/10 Issues - 4.5/5 - 9/10 Untouchables - 4/5 - 9/10 Take A Look In The Mirror - 2/5 - 4/10 See You On The Other Side 3.5/5 - 7/10 Untitled - 4/5 - 8/10 Korn III: Rememer Who You Are - 4/5 - 8.5/10 The Path of Totality - 0/5 - 0/10 The Paradigm Shift - 4/5 - 8/10 The Serenity of Suffering - 4/5 - 8.5/10 The Nothing 4/5 - 9/10 And now Requiem - 2.5/5 - 5/10
My fav album is The Nothing, definitely the album that i needed during my life. I love The Path of Totality, it was the album that introduced me to Korn!
I love The Nothing, most listened album, artist, and song (Cold) of 2019 when that dropped. Something about it just has such a bleak and ominous sound, it really captures the feeling of the album's namesake, which is that some unknown unseen force is constantly looming over you and making you depressed, but in reality it is Nothing.
13. The Path Of Totality 12. See You On The Other Side 11. Untiled 10. Follow The Leader 9. The Nothing 8. Korn III (Remember Who You Are) 7. Issues 6. Take A Look In The Mirror 5. The Paradigm Shift 4. Korn 3. Untouchables 2. The Serenity Of Suffering 1. Life Is Peachy Just my personal ranking.
I think almost every Korn album is a masterpiece. The only one I fucking hate is Path To Totality. No joke, your review on Path To Totality took the words right outta my mouth. Other than that, everything they make is a masterpiece.
Finally some love for Untitled. Definitely some teen angst nostalgia for me(dropped my sophomore year of high school) but I still enjoy it today. 3.5 is what I give it as well
Imma hard disagree with ya on issue album. Has some great songs Falling away from me, Trash, and let's get this party started and rest range from decent-good. It's not as good as follow the leader but it isn't that far off imo. Solid 3.5/5 for me
It was the Summer of 1996 and i got to go to a big festival to see some of the biggest metal bands at the time. The Second act of the day was Korn and I could see members of the bigger acts standing on the sides watching the set. Everyone around me including myself was floored. After the festival I couldn't wait to tell everyone about this crazy band who hands down stole the show. Over the next four years i seen them five more times and the crowds got bigger and you seen way more Korn shirts. Up to this point I never seen a music video or any Korn on the radio. The Scat in the early days plus the Freak out was something to witness. Then Follow the Leader came out and all hell broke loose. The term "Nu Metal" is BS and it's super easy to prove by looking at The bands in the that Nu Metal group. Korn was huge before FTL and after FTL came out the Stations had no choice but to play them. The same people that came up with that term also gave Nickelback the award for Best New Artist when they were already a band for 16 years before that. I understand you like your bands to have the same sound album after album. The build up to every album korn put out was that The band was trying new sounds and experimenting with new ideas minus the albums that when back to the Slow Dirty Sound. I respect your opinion and happy you had taken the time to listen to them all. My shit talk would be it feels like that dude that binged Game of Thrones in a weekend so he can watch the series finale sunday just got go to work and join the conversation with the guys who grinded it out for years. I like your content and ill be back for more.
Hey man..I’m 38 for starters. Not sure how old you are but you have to be my age or older. I like this kid..not sure how old he is but I’m guessing mid 20’s? 24 maybe? lol anyway..I’m like 6 minutes in and I just wanted to say if he thinks the music side of the first album brings it down then he has to be as young as I think he is. Korn is ultra original..there was literally nothing like it. 7 string guitars tuned a full step down…just heavy and grimy. I’m just trying to say this kid is showing his age if he had a problem with the music side of the fist album lol. It’s THE thing that makes it good. Davis was a beast and original but the music is heavy af and the definition of original. Jealous I didn’t see them in 96 live but I was hanging on their every move. Been a fan since 95’. Cheers
3:40 id argue that ozzy osbourne broke a lot of ground for artists being open about their emotions. some of his most iconic songs, like rock n roll rebel, goodbye to romance, mama im coming home, crazy train, and diary of a madman, are about him revealing who the price of darkness really is
To add to your if Korn wrote for a horror movie statement.. Johnathan Davis did write a whole soundtrack for a horror movie called Queen of the Damned, because of copyright his vocals had to be covered by other metal artists on the official soundtrack but on the film its his vocal versions of the songs and he is on the film also
dig the review and the honesty man! Korn has always been in my Top 10. Also "Korn III" is titled that because it was the 3rd time they worked with Ross Robinson ( self-titled and Life is Peachy were #1 and #2) just to answer your question why :) My score for each album: Korn 9/10 Life Is Peachy 3/10 Follow The Leader 10/10* Issues 9/10 Untouchables 10/10* Take A Look In The Mirror 6/10 See You In The Other Side 10/10* Untitled 7/10 Korn III: Remember Who You Are 5/10 The Path To Totality 4/10 The Paradigm Shift 8/10 The Serenity Of Suffering 10/10* The Nothing 6/10 Requiem 3/10
Are you working in the radio industry bruh,? You recommend Follow the Leader rather than 1st album and Life is Peachy??? The album is too polished. Then you give a high score for Remember Who You Are, which contradicts your 1st 2 albums. You had really having a meltdown,.. Cheers!!! Keep safe mate.
His list made no sense. Like someone that literally spent a couple of days listening to the albums then made the video, even he admitted on another comment he basically didn't even like Korn
Here mine: Korn - 4.5/5 Life is Peachy 4/5 Follow The Leader 4/5 Issues 4/5 Untouchable - 3.5/5 Take a Look in the Mirror - 2/5 See You on the Other Side - 3.5/5 Untitled - 2/5 Korn 3 - 1.5/5 Path of Totality - 0.5/5 Paradigm Shift - 3/5 Serenity of Suffering - 3.5/5 The Nothing - 2.5/5
@Theprisonmetaller Dude... I can understand your scoring of Path of Totality, (though I dont agree with it as i thought it was a really cool and unique album) because if you are strictly a metal head then Path of Totality will not appeal to you.... BUT DUDE.... 1.5 for KORN III !!??!! Was that a mistake? Because KoRn III : Remember Who You Are Is easily their most old school sounding album BY FAAAARRRR. It literally is them in their original element. And you know why? Because it was produced by Ross Robinson, who produced their first album. And it shows. He brought that wonderful emotion of anger and pain out of JD that he has been missing for too long. The album is LOUD and not over produced like too many of their albums. The vocals were up front and the instrumentals were thankfully not muted. ALL the sound was pushed up front and popping!! If any one of their albums deserves a 1.5 OR LOWER it is Take A Look In The Mirror. Total garbage. There is not ONE song on that album that I relate to and would put on my play lists that I make when i take 2 songs from each album... Next album for a 1.5 rating or lower, Serenity Of Suffering and Paradigm Shift. Atleast however there is ATLEAST one proper song from each of those albums.
@@TheNobleLoyalist Korn III is very rushed. It sound too plain compared their first two albums. Plus I can’t stand Jonathan, he yaps too much and his singing is off note at time. Sorry but it’s a very weak album. Nowadays I may rate it a 2/5. And yes I take TALITM over Korn 3 any fucking day.
Me personal ranking would be: 1 The Nothing 2 The Serenity Of Suffering 3 Korn 4 The Path Of Totality 5 Follow The Leader 6 The Paradigm Shift 7 Requiem 8 Untitled 9 Take A Look In The Mirror 10 See You On The Other side 11 Korn III: Remember Who You Are 12 Issues 13 Untouchables 14 Life Is Peachy
I strongly disagree with your takes on self-titled, Issues, Untouchables and Take In The Look In The Mirror. All of those are in my top 5. Untitled and Korn III are the two worst Korn albums imo (yeah worse than Path Of Totality)
Also it's kind of funny you said korn 3 sounds the most authentic, John Davis in a interview said he didn't like this album and feels its korns worst because it felt the most forced and he didn't want to write an album like that but Ross Robinson forced them too and it took him to the dark side of the first albums he didn't want to revisit, and he wanted to carry on down a more experimental record so he wasn't fully into it. he also stated Untouchables was his favourite and the one he put most of his effort into and as a band and definetly money towards production.. they paid out big time lol. Good rankings tho
Korn 3 -- was likely because it was the third of the "Untitled albums First album was "Korn".. Then the album before "3" was "Untitled" -- appearing to be another "korn" album title This would be the third one
Korn- 3.5 Life is Peachy- 3 Follow the Leader- 3.5 Issues- 4 Untouchables- 4.5 Take a Look in the Mirror- 4 See You On The Other Side- 2.5 Untitled- 1.5 Remember Who You Are- 4.5 Path of Totality- 0.5 The Paradigm Shift- 3.5 The Serenity of Suffering- 4.5 The Nothing- 5 I'm sorry, I may be biased but I completely disagree with most of the scores on this video. Is their sound similar through their career. Yea, but that's what I love about them. They don't change their sound to appease to everyone. They know what their music is. There's no band that sounds like them and when you hear them you know it's korn. They do their style well and yea theyve had a few duds but over all I feel like they mature a lot with their releases and those first 6 albums are treasures to me. I understand the critisim with issues, Untouchables, take a look in the mirror. But overall disagree and I think they are fantastic records
1. Issues 2. Follow the leader 3. Korn 4. The nothing 5. Life is peachy 6. The serenity of suffering 7. Untouchables 8. Korn III 9. Untitled 10. Take a look in the mirror 11. See you on the other side 12. Requiem 13. The paradigm shift 14. The path of totality
I'm gonna have to HARD disagree with your assessment of JDs scatting. I fucking love when he does it and ESPECIALLY on Twist which you said you didn't really like. But hey each to their own right? I actually have a big soft spot for Life is Peachy bc I feel like it's Korn at their most Korn. It's got that musical backbone of funky bass and groove-based riffs. It's got their dipshit edgelord content, their lyrics about raw emotions. It's got JDs signature scatting, their hip hop influence with Wicked, and even a cover of Low Rider. I unfortunately can't get as HARD behind Follow the Leader as the majority of people and I really can't explain why. I LOVE Freak on a Leash though and the album isn't bad or anything I'm just not blown away like most people are
This sounds more like a first impression from a metal guy who's heard of korn but never really liked them, so i'll take what he say with a pinch of salt..
A fair appraisal. Even as a fan, I have to concede they're a patchy albums band, and their admirable desire to experiment results in a lot of wonky tracks that don't quite work. Follow The Leader and Korn III are unusually consistent, and are my faves too.
I disagree with you so hard, yet it's been really entertaining to listen to your opinion from start to finish. You certainly have the qualities for a media entertainer.
I didn't enjoy Korn follow the leader it holds absolutely no candle to their original album Issues. Favourites: 1: it's on 2: freak on a leash 3: Got the life
The paradigm shift is a great album! All albums after that are killers for me! But really appreciated anything you said and I agree in many things what if Korn is one of my top 5 bands
I must be the only person that actually, unironically and enthusiastically loves Path of Totality 😂 Not sure if it's nostalgia bc I became a fan of Korn in 2011 or what but I thought it was really unique and different in a way that I really enjoy. I also LOVE Paradigm Shift hahaha (idk if I'd classify either albums as my top favorite, but I definitely really love them) :) I've actually been loving all the recent albums (along with all the older ones). I just love Korn in general so much 😂
Absolutely agree with you on Jonathan Davis's overall performance on The Nothing. He really proved to everyone that he's still got a powerhouse of a show for Korn fans, even today. However, I disagree with you on Korn 3. I think that's their one boring, terrible album in their catalogue. I even like Path of Totality more! But mad respect for you to be doing a Korn discography breakdown in such detail. You spoke so damn well!
My list: Self titled-3.5 (Outdated production and some repetition, but an AMAZING ALBUM for it's time, I still personally love it.) Life is Peachy- 4.0 (The grungy feel, plus the raw emotion of the first two albums are what make them special, not to mention David's drumming on these albums, which in reality is PHENOMENAL, and doesn't get enough credit.) Follow the Leader-3.0 (I hate to say this, but some songs on this album are too corny and outdated to bear, and should definitely be left in the late 90s. 😂 That being said, there are a few timeless hits such as Freak on a Leash/Got the Life. Seed is very good too.) Issues-4.5 (Very creepy and atmospheric, with darker lyrical content. Sadly, this is the album where they purposefully dumbed down David's drumming, which I hated. That being said in my opinion still my second favorite album.) *Untouchables*-4.5 HEAVY *Take a Look in the Mirror*-2.0 A very watered down, repetitive Korn album. However I loved the songs Did my Time and Play Me. *See you on the Other Side*-5.0 (Unpopular opinion, but my favorite album from them. Extremely atmospheric, experimental, creepy/heavy/groovy all at the same time, clean percussion as you said, great vocal performance from Jonathan Davis, probably his best work and at his prime.. Though Head wasn't on the album, who's my favorite member of the band.) *Untitled*- 1.5 Honestly their worst album to date, there's a few great songs on that album, but clearly their creative direction was lost, now that the drummer and lead guitarist left the band. *Korn 3 Remember Who You Are*- 2.0 It was a very heavy record, but it's honestly pretty forgettable. Note: I've lost interest in any other Korn albums since Korn 3, and haven't listened to any of their new music until they released The Nothing and Requiem. *The Nothing*-4.5 AMAZING. Great performance on vocals, was very impressed. *Requiem*- I still have to give this album a full listen, but so far I'm liking it. I'll have to go back and finish the rest of their discography, that being said Korn is my favorite band of all time. Most of their albums I gave an above average rating, but that's just because I love their music beyond belief lol. Great review though, interesting to see a different perspective!
all I can really think of, is that Korn III is called Korn III because they have technically 2 self-titled or untitled albums, so I guess it's supposed to be their third self-titled album or third untitled album maybe? I don't know
I am super late to this but this might be blasphemy for me to say, but The Nothing might be my favourite them. I aknowlegde how kind of cookiecutter it is in songwriting but it's super entertaining and catchy for me still. And like you said, Jonathan Davis really sells it!
2.5 /5 their debut ? And 3/5 Life is peachy , their best and heaviest album ?? 😂😂😂😂 As a Korn fan I totally disagree and not gonna watch the rest of this. Korn are clearly not your cup of tea mate. That’s totally fine , but I don’t know , I wouldn’t review a bands discography that I don’t actually like. You didn’t talk about a lot of stuff that matters , the grooves , the down tuning , the riffs , riffs are so fucking heavy , you totally ignore them !? So here’s the reviews : first 5 albums are amazing , Life is peachy being the best. They have some experimental mediocre to bad albums , untitled and Korn 3 are the worst. Then they return to form with the serenity of suffering and The nothing which have some classic Korn try not to headbang moments once again . Thank you very much 🤘🤘🤘❤️❤️❤️
@@themetalmeltdownofficial over Korn ? I love both obituary and korn. I’m not as butthurt as you may think , but seriously you graded some of their really bad albums good and some of their best albums bad.
@@allosanthrwpos542 It sounds to me like you're so much of a fan that seeing people rate the albums differently actively bugs you. If that weren't the case, you probably wouldn't have also commented 'jesus kill me now' elsewhere. Food for thought.
