In this video i am answering a bunch of questions i had from my first video "reviewing the easy welding" (LINK POSTED BELOW) i had dozens of questions about people asking what all these could weld so i decided to get a bunch of different metals out and try and find out for you guys. copper, brass, pot metal, dirty aluminum, pull tests, aluminum wheels, mild steel and stainless steel. If you hve any other suggestions leave a comment and i will make another video if i need too
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR WATCHING!

Have you heard of the term "Surface Preparation"

@fatherofdragons4880 3 года назад
He prepped them beforehand apparently.
@CaseysCustoms

Everything was fully prepped before we tried any welding. If you do some research you will see it’s pretty well documented all the things that the sticks wouldn’t weld, are not weldable with these. So no amount of prep matters, they weren’t possible

Great info! - Just wondering if the mild steel or brass would take to the braze more if first brushed clean with steel brush & cleaned with acetone? - Thanks, Casey!

If you guna clean it to weld it, clean it to braze. The steel still had scale on it and the copper looked dirty

Q) Rubbed parts with clean stainless steel wire brush first?

Good info. It'd be interesting to play with. I saw where it said cast iron, but I can't think of a case where I'd trust that. I'm thinking striped out threads in aluminum heads or a cracked transmission case. I'm interested to try the stuff out.

Might sand, wire wheel, degrease, to clean metals first before brazing. Does not work well on dirty surfaces. Bob

I didnt see the result for the 2 copper stripes - did they hold at the end? You just blended over to brass rods which didn't. Would be great if this works on pure copper - so you could weld copper and alumium together. I doubt it would be really strong as there is nothing like alu-copper alloy.
@CaseysCustoms
@CaseysCustoms 4 года назад
richardnanis it held the copper together but it was no strong at all. So kinda yes and kinda no, i think trying to bond both aluminum and copper would be a good test I’ll have to try
@richardnanis
@richardnanis 4 года назад
@@CaseysCustoms I managed to solder a copper cable strand on an aluminium plate with normal electronics tin solder. You have to work the hot tin real hard into the alumium and clean the aluminium very carefully just in front. You scrab and rub the tin into the aluminium - then it will work. But its a hard process and results are more less unpredictable. Its a little easier with plumbing tin (sn97cu3) and some plumbing flux.

Should I wait to see if it comes loose or do the weld now? Thanks in advance.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm no welder, but I learned to solder when I got into racing drone hobby, and if you don't heat up the material and solder enough to really flow properly, it has no strength to it. The welds I saw here looked barely melted. Besides, it takes forever to heat up. Not impressed with those rods.

The only place I see where you would need to weld instead of using these rods, is where you need penetration and/or flow. These rods don't flow well at all... even under pressure. The good ones have a very minimal amount of magnesium and copper in them, so you shouldn't reheat the material after it's applied.

I just tried my soldering rods yesterday and they didn't work at all. They just melt when the aluminium material itself melts down. I tried several times: they dont melt on the hot metal unless the metal itself starts getting liquid/soft. I couldn't come up with one single good weld. I got mine quite cheap from ebay china - probably got crap! I paid around 4 Eur for 20 rods - where did you buy yours? Did you hear of any fake material here? The chinese tend to fake everything from electronic parts to everything else nowadays... Better not buy from chinese sellers at ebay - its not worth the time and money!
@CaseysCustoms
@CaseysCustoms 4 года назад
richardnanis cheap rods sound like the problem, get them from blue demon weld, also you shouldn’t be getting the aluminum anywhere near hot enough to melt. The rods melt at low temps (like 700 degrees) and aluminum melts at like 1250. Also the good ones form blue demon aren’t expensive

It will "weld" an aluminum wheel fine if you take your time to make it work correctly and then shape the repair area and repeat if necessary. This stuff is harder than a traditional weld so yeah....
@CaseysCustoms
@CaseysCustoms 4 года назад
Murrica Motors who said it wouldn’t? I said it would work fine but it would take you 30 mins hearing it up with a small torch so if you are going to the trouble to get a real torch out and heating the wheel up enough the tire needs removed you might as well have it tig welded for 20 bucks from somebody. So yeah, maybe watch the whole vid before commenting?
@ls4.8frank

@@CaseysCustoms I hear ya bro,but some folks can't afford to buy or use someone's torch so the smaller torch is what most of the targeted folks will be using.

It didn't actually require deception in marketing to be somewhat impressive, so i don't really understand why they chose to lie anyway!? It would probably sell well, if honestly marketed towards use for aluminum repairs, bonding and light stainless steel repairs(plus whatever else it was good for that I'm forgetting right now).... 🚫🤔 It's like if I developed a good quality circular saw, but I still chose to advertise it for being good for sawing, AND drilling and hammering and lathing! If the saw is good at sawing, why not just leave the advertising at that? 🥴
