Revisiting Dead Rising 3 in 2018 

The one thing I will disagree on is the "nick being scared" thing. He stops being scared of regular zombies as the game goes on, but every one of the examples you give is a situation where it makes total sense for him to be freaking out. (Hive Zombie, Military killing innocent survivors, bike gang)

My only complaint about Dead Rising 3 is... no skateboards.

Dead rising 4 never happened, nothing remains

Me: Revisiting “Revisiting Dead Rising 3 Two in 2018” in 2021. Your insight is still spot on, and every time I watch this video I learn new things about the games.

I ended up liking DR3 more than DR2. Having to recover medicine for your daughter was tedious, the zombies behaved stiffly, and the weapon combinations were limited. They basically fixed (or at least improved) a lot of the issues with DR2. DR3 had it's own problems: it was too easy in a lot of parts, the road blocks were pretty annoying, the weapons locker was OP (so much so that I played the game as if it didn't exist) but for the most part it was a ton of fun. And I don't really understand when people say DR3 doesn't feeling like a Dead Rising game. Was that just because you aren't in a mall type environment anymore? Everything else was basically there. Place overwhelmed by zombies, awesome zombie killing, wacky story, interesting world, ridiculous bosses.

Great video Sir, I quite liked Dead Rising 3, it was essentially the Halo for the Xbox One launch line up, in in regards of no other games being available (unless you're into racing) it was an entertaining game. Only thing I didn't like is it was when they started to play down the psychos, like you said they needed a plot to why they went mad in game, and also REALLY needed a pumping boss tune that makes you feel you're in deep shit, Adam's theme in DR1, Jed's theme in DR:CZ and Chef Antonie's theme in DR2 were amazing tracks that I still listen to a decade later. DR3 had no memorable tunes and DR4 can go fuck itself.

Ok let's be honest, if i'd find zombie with goddamn bee hive on the head... i'd be scared even more than Nick :D

I love Dead Rising 1 and 2 and i thought Dead Rising 3 was alright but not as good as the first two. Now after playing through the miserable shit show that is Dead Rising 4, Dead Rising 3 is a fucking masterpiece!!!

This was a very good video. I have played 2, 3 and .... sadly, also 4. The one thing I disagree with you is the locker part. Dead Rising is a beat-em-up game, me and my wife call DR3 "stress relief". In that light, having the locker room is actually incredible since we can just start the game, get whatever weapon we want at that time and run around town blowing shit up. I concede it would be better design to have it as a NG+ feature, but the mechanic itself is great IMO. Cheers!

i think i have a better way of describing Dead Rising in alcohol. Dead Rising is a high quality, soul soothing and body refreshing glass of lager/ale/cider/whatever local brew. Dead Rising 2 is a good bottled beer you would buy in your local store, no better than previously described drinks, but still good and probably the best out of all you could buy. Dead Rising 3 is tequila, if you know what i mean. Plus, i think tequila also works here the best due to DR3's theme being "grindhouse" pretty much. Dead Rising 4 is a straight up distilled alcohol, or even medicinal alcohol.

Dead rising 3 is my second favorite game in the series. I found the boss fight much more fun when you fought them with your bare hands.

Was dead rising 4 soul crushing with its disappointment? Yes. Did I still have fun playing it? Yes. Is it a good game? Ehhhhhhhh. Although the psychopaths in DR3 were lacking in motive or lackluster, they were still unique and felt like you were going against a developers messed up brain child. DR4 completely negated that with down right lazy NPC's they had the nerve to call "Maniacs". Great vid, btw. Glad I subscribed. It's refreshing to see a gaming channel take a deep look into a game without cramming everything into 10 minutes. Keep it up!

Yea for all of Dead Rising 3's faults, there are plenty of redeeming qualities. Makes the state of "you know what" even more sad because of how close they were to making a really good dead rising sequel with 3. A sequel that takes all the advantages of 3 and improves on the essentials it fell flat on that original still strives would be the ultimate dead rising game .... can't wait for that to happen.

I forgot to mention how much I love your attention to detail and little touches in your videos. Getting a guest to narrate the quotes is a brilliant idea, and one which I very rarely see other creators do. It makes them a lot easier to listen to without thinking it’s still you speaking.

I appreciate games where you get the feeling time, dedication and passion was put into the project, even if the final product comes out a bit flawed. DR3 is not a great game, heck DR2/OTR are not great games. They were at least trying to honor the roots and expand on an already working formula. But when games like DR4 comes out, you start appreciating the little things.

Dead rising 4 was a mistake.

I actually played it for the first time in 2018. There's no doubt it missed some of the magic that made the first game stand-out from the crowd but I think they did the open-world thing pretty well, even if the map itself wasn't that big (and it was certainly artificially inflated with the road blocks). Found it lots of fun.

Fantastic video. Dead Rising 3 was the first Dead Rising game I played since the first one on 360. I really enjoyed it and sank a ton of hours into it. It definitely has its flaws but is still enjoyable.

There was one thing that you said that rang so damn true. “I guess I didn’t know how good I had it.” I remember being very “meh” for DR3, but now, post DR4 I really do notice so many more positives and I genuinely enjoy it. Also, the graphics are so much damn better, and they actually tried to evolutionize existing mechanics. This video definitely makes me want to replay it again.

I remember getting the DR3 season pass, and I really liked the game since i'm a huge fan of zombie games, and I loved being able to change my outfits, and pretty much become a police officer haha.

Honestly I very much loved Nick. His reactions to experiencing a zombie outbreak feels real and its nice that he doesnt constantly act like some fearless macho man which is why I feel like hes the most relatable protagonist you play as in the series. Also as for the story, Dead Rising 2 is my favorite part of the story, the inclusion of a drug to stop the parasite from growing, the way phenotrans and the government gets involved with outbreaks exposing them, it's just a very enjoyable story

Ive known this channel for 3 years and i still love it, this is one of first channels thats keep me here for this long for how the channel is and i still enjoy it because of how much work you put in and has a lot of depth put into the videos and games he takes a look at, i do disagree with somethings he said, sure its really freaking easy but its more like a sandbox game, sure dr 1 and 2 didnt have much time to save survivers, dr 3 had WAY to much time but again its more like a sandbox game but doesn't give you that much freedom by letting you design the map and stuff, but theres a lot of freedom in dr 3 but still had objectives for you to complete, in my oppinion dr3 had enough time... Well a little to much but it still had a decent amount survivers and extra time for you to have fun, but still your video was just as good as i thought, Great job man keep up the great work!

I just revisited Dead Rising the reason I bought the Xbox360. To this day the Transmissionary achievement I still have not gotten. Yes I have saved all the survivors. 12 years later the manual save and Otis are still a pain in the ass. Great game even today.

Did you know... Did you know that Albert Contiello was meant to be a Phenotrans scientist found in the General Hospital? Yes, the Hospital was meant to be a fully developed building with multiple floors. Unfortunately, as with a lot of other content, it never made it into the final product.

Can i just say the soundtrack is on point in this video. Wasn't expecting ratchet and clank 2 music lol. I enjoyed Dead Rising 3, so much easier to convince friends to play with you due to the ease of combining items, grabbing stuff from the weapon locker, the lack of zones so you can both explore independently. Plus I definitely don't miss the random level up bonuses from the first two games where you hope to nab speed early on rather than on levels 42 and 49. I think I'll replay 2 a lot more than 3, but I wouldn't be upset if future Dead Rising games aspire to just be a better 3. And, you know, own up to that promise rather than just be 4.

I’ve always enjoyed DR3, even with the little changes from the previous games. I’m a huge fan of the series so imagine my horror when playing DR4 day one. I still hate the game. I played 3 again shortly after finishing 4 and somehow loved it more. Anyways, great video! I always love your DR insights. Keep them coming. :)

Awesome video man. Love seeing your videos on the Dead Rising games and am glad to see some more positive and interesting points on this game, such as the 4 themes for each city and the 7 deadly sins for the psychopaths. As someone who's made many videos on how poor Dead Rising 4 is, I'm glad to see someone pointing out all the great features and details in this game that make it stand above from the 4th game.

The bosses in DR3 make alot of sense to me and I appreciate what they mean. I think they were meant to represent how people would actually react in a situation like this.

dead rising 3 is the best game of the series so far in my opinion. improved on so much from 1 and 2. survivors are smarter when you rescue them. the lockers are awesome cause to get an item all you do is pick it up and you can access it anytime from the locker. the clearing out safe rooms was an awesome edition, plus burn away the song that plays in one of them was a pretty cool song. also the ability to combine vehicles and you can combo weapons and food anywhere anytime.

Dead Rising without a timer, is missing the part that made it interesting / good at least to me.

I never paid attention to the differences between the discricts that much, mainly because of how absolutely brown, grey and muted the world colors are. This was back in 2013, the same year as *_GTA 5,_* so it should have been way past the brown-is-realistic phase.

For the sake of future comments: "To", "Too", and "Two" are three different words. They cannot be used interchangeably in standard English. If you are wanting to use the word "too" but spell "to" instead, please go back and type that one extra "o". It's one letter. It's not even hard to move your finger that minimal extra amount, and spending that extra effort makes arguments seem much more intelligent.

Dead rising 3 is amazing, you can do coop with your friend in the campaign, ride modified vehicles, killing zombies, collect weapons BP, repeat

I know this might seem dumb but I was 14 when dead rising 3 came out and it was the first next gen game I played and it was probably the most fun I ever had playing a game

I just don't get why people don't like Nick's personality, seriously The guy is really afraid of what's going on, but that only makes sense for a fucking zombie apocalypse, which makes him very relatable Also, he is a legit good guy, he doesn't want anybody to die, even the psychos, and finally the fact that he's physically tough, but acts really innocent and concerned makes it less stigmatic and kinda funny.

I always thought 3 was a good game, just suffered from some technical issues, and it felt way easier at times.

If you look into the lost stories/downloadable content of the game, you can play as the biker and really get his POV on the entire story of the game. Once you play through it, you can really sympathize for him and understand his troubles.

I really loved DR3. And then I paid full price for DR4. God dammit.

At the part where you talk about nick’s character and how he’s always scared, if you think about it, his reactions are more realistic than chuck or frank’s reactions, i mean they gave a slight jump or small reaction but other than that, chuck and frank just act like this is something that happens to them on a normal basis. Besides nick is younger and hasn’t been in events like the outbreak, besides if you were in nick’s position during these moments, I’m sure you would be frightened too.

That intro where you talk about what makes a disappointing and a bad game is very very true. I think Deadrising 3 is a good game but it’s no where near as good as 1 or 2 in my opinion. Another great video!

I had the opportunity to play Dead Rising 3 for the first time recently, and while it definitely has flaws it feels like there was a genuine attempt to make it a fun and interesting game, and it only really needed a few fixes to really make it shine such as rebalancing weapon lockers, making psychopaths more threatening, and maybe building upon the story a bit more.

DR3 is a very underrated game

I actually started playing DR3 for the first time last month. I've beat Dead Rising 1/2 multiple times, but I never got to play DR3 due to me not having an Xbox One or PC. But right now, playing through it's clunkiness, I love DR3. It could've been way better but it's still a fun game to play and it just gives the Dead Rising series a new look and feel. I will say, I hate the road blocks and lack of special melee animations, but other than that, I give this game a 7/10.

I recently had a discussion with someone on the Dead Rising subreddit about Nick and DR3. I will say first that I am a fan of DR3. All of the critiques people have said regarding this game are warranted, but I'm still a fan and played it like crazy when it released. This is the reason I decided to go ahead and get an Xbox One when it was such a trainwreck upon launch. Having said all that, I think one of the reasons Nick didn't connect with people as well as did Frank or Chuck is that he seems like such a bumbling little pawn instead of a character with agency. Frank is self-determined while Chuck is a family man trying to keep his family safe. Those are classic male archetypal stories while Nick just seems to bumble from one adventure to another. He is almost always at the whims of other characters instead of driving his own plot. These things are fine of course, especially with a video game protagonist. But it's just not as compelling as characters like Frank and Chuck who are steeped in lionized classic male traits. End of the day, it's just easier for most men to relate to Frank's determination and even handedness or Chuck's willingness to do whatever it takes to keep Katy safe while he grieves for his lost wife. Even if we don't have the traits, most men want to have these traits. And these types of stories are time tested well worn story elements for male characters. Meanwhile Nick, even though he grows as a heroic character by the end, feels less memorable as a result. And again, I'd like to remind anyone who read this that I am actually a fan of DR3. Far more than most DR fans in most cases.

I like Dead Rising 3 and believe it is the last good Dead Rising game. Off the Record was the last great Dead Rising game. I thought the story was fantastic and second best in the series after the second game

Hello! I am just a random dude on the internet named Satan, but i wanted to leave an opinion. After watching this video, alot of things clicked for me. I liked dr3 because of its easiness, rhe amount of zombies i could kill, easy bosses compared to dr1, etc. But watching this and comparisons, i get your points. Because its a zombie game, it should emphasize on horror. So naturally, if the game itself is harder, and a bit scarier like dr1, it makes the game seem better. I think i might replay dr1 after watching this, and hopefully i can gain a better perspective of it.

To me Dead Rising 3 is probably my favorite game of the series tho I really enjoy Dead Rising 1 & 2 and respect the hell out of them
