Revisiting the Draft Selection of Ron Holland 

I did my first mock draft in 1988 at age 14. I think I got about 11 picks correct and haven't gotten much better since.

I think Holland will be best out of draft

Also, I have a good feeling about the team chemistry with the current team and the coaching staff. Not that I expect 35+ wins this year. It can happen but as we see with the Lions, the culture and the right team spirit is the foundation. I'm looking forward to seeing that this year.

I refuse to have an opinion on Ron. I feel like I'm destined to be disappointed. Hopefully, at a minimum, he eventually becomes a bigger KCP with better handles.

Matas Buzelis and Ron Holland both were victims of not playing with a true point guard in the G League. They both would've benefited from playing with a guard that could set them up.

Historically we’ve always won our championships through our defense. Holland fits into the that Pistons archetype perfectly. There’s also the dream that both Holland and Thompson develop their shooting and can play together. Talk about some potential stifling defense! I was shocked too when we selected Holland because there was so much pre-draft analysis showing the Pistons picking Buzelis that it seemed like a foregone conclusion. The Holland pick has grown on me, definitely saw some of his talent during the summer league, and I like the fit with our organization and its timeline. However, I’ll always connect Holland and Buzelis and compare their progress a bit more closely since they are from the same draft and we could have picked either guy. I do the same with Jalen Duren and Mark Williams from the 2022 draft.

I’m still a little thrown off by his awkwardness and general lack of basketball iq. I hope im wrong but I don’t see the sky high ceiling.

To be fair, any single draft pick cannot be fairly assessed before two full seasons of some regular playing time. And the draft is a long shot anyways. Let's hope that Ronny will develop into above average defensive wing. Then we can start to dream about a two-way star 😉

Mike Tomlin had a quote, passing on a player due to flaws is lazy coaching. It is the coach responsibility to coach the player.

I don't think Detroit will regret drafting Ron Holland. I fully believe that they will regret not drafting some of the guys that went after him. He'll probably ne just fine but over 15 years guys like Clingen will be more valuable.

I had Holland #3 on my board with Cody Williams and Clingan ahead. I had Clingan ahead mostly as a pick and trade back thinking they could get Ron or Cody later and pick up some extra picks or players. But no one wanted to move up for him. Right now Ron and Cody look like similar projects, so I’m fine with the draft and only time will tell how it works out. But if both Ausar and Ron work out, along with Cade makes a deadly 1-3.

I think eventually if you got Ron at the 3, Ausar at the 2, Cade at the 1, they all shooting better, that is a dangerous 1 -3 line up on offense and defense

Holland was the #1 prospect coming out of high school his senior year, he should fit well with this new Pistons team.

I wanted Matas at first too until we got Bobbi. Ron along with Trajan sees himself as a 2/3 more than a 3/4. I think that's why Trajan was intentional about hiring Fred who spent a lot of years in New Orleans. Ron might be Jaden replacement in a couple years if he doesn't pan out
