Revisiting the PlayStation TV 3D Display 

I found one brand new in the clearance bin at Wal-Mart in 2017 for $80. Still use it to this day

I came across one locally for around 200$ I was interested because I loved the 3D tech, well when it's done right, lol. Appreciate the review! Really helps make a decision to pick on up in 2022!

It's funny, your story for how you found one and why you bought it and how you used it it's pretty much exactly what happened with me. I ended up buying this as a monitor for my Xbox 360 on a sale at Best buy for around $100, it might have even been 75 it was very very discounted and on top of it being small and portable it had 3D which would allow me to watch the 3D movies that I had in my collection, but the main feature that is kept me from selling this display and kept me using it either as a game or PC monitor for over a decade is just how light and portable it is. I have taken that monitor to friend's houses, on family vacations, to college, and pretty much anywhere I went that I thought I might want to play a game. Just last week my wife was looking at and she was like why don't you sell that thing and I realize it was because of how reliable and portable it has been more than anything else that and it still looks good to play 1080p games on today.

I’ve been using this same monitor for 10 years, and also haven’t used the 3D features in about 9 and a half years

This is something that has been on my want list forever but never found one locally at a decent price! Yes I know it's technically old tech but I want to test 3D gaming and movies (since I've never experienced it) and it would also be a great monitor to play PSP with the component cable! One day I'll find one! Great video and keep up the good work!

Just pulled mine out of the box the other day. I bought 2 of them from GameStop when they were discounting them out at 199. Used them with a PlaySeat for an at home GranTurismo racing simulator

I love mine. I was really impressed when I connected my PsPgo docked, I found that it has a built-in overlay and displays psp games in full screen.

Pick this up on a Black Friday deal at Best buy Way back then for 100 bucks. Still runs crispy and is now my dedicated switch and PS3 monitor. My only issue is the super glare other than that looks super crispy especially with the lights off at night.

I don't know why but there's something really nice about the image quality on these things. I bought one new 11 years ago and it has barely been used. Hooked it up today out of curiosity and was blown away by the picture.

I got this at Black Friday 2012 and was using it as a second TV to play my Xbox. Still have it in my closet but not sure if I still have my 3D glasses lol.

And you can also use ANY Sony control to work with this display I even use my old Sony Trinitron remote control and it works perfect it even goes into the menus

I've had a refurbished one for about 6 years now. It's a good display. Any Sony remote will work with it and the 3d is a great bonus. But beware the 3d glasses it comes with tend to lose battery life and have to be replaced.

Just wanna give people some knowledge on the issue if they had or may have later, recently fixed my cech zed1u 3d display with new matching rating low esr capacitors and it been working great 2hrs use and no random blackouts per 40mins or full shutoff I use to experience 😞

I found mine in pristine condition for 40 bucks at a second hand store and play my nintendo switch out of it hooked up to a nice sound system it's killer I love it

I was actually gifted one of these a few weeks ago,had to order a power cord for it but that's it, hopefully it lives up to the hype still!

I have one of these... actually if you use a Sony Remote from a TV it works! Mine unfortunately the glass started separating from the bezel (I think the glue they used is just too old... but... I used it for 3 years of heavy use as my 2nd monitor. Worked great!

My mom still has hers, used to love hooking up my ps3 to play Skyrim. I’m debating on using it for cod warzone right now and returning my msi monitor but idk

I still use this on my desktop... well i play switch (splatoon 3) on it more using the pc nowadays. one thing you didnt mention (i think?) is that it has decent speakers (for a monitor or tv) and a built in subwoofer. i never felt the need to use headphones or separate speakers with this. i have used this display for gamecube and wii(u) in the past and it did a fine job too

I have the PlayStation 3D TV as well but the battery in my 3D glasses is dead so I need to replace it; or somehow mod the 3D glasses to use CR2032 batteries instead of lithium so can easily replace the batteries as needed.

I bought this at Best Buy on Black Friday for like $80. One of the best Black Fridays deals I've ever seen. I use it as my PC monitor now. However, I did have to send it in to get it repaired, I think it cost me $50 at the time, and that included shipping.

I still have this monitor, I have been tempted to hook it back up to play Cyberpunk 2077 on it. I did, when I first got it, play Skyrim, Elder Scrolls, and Dishonored on it. I was pretty hyped over the 3D, but then I got a VR headset, and never thought about the 3D on a TV again. I WOULD love to get one of the IMAX Parallax Barrier 3D screens that they used to demo True vision 3D outside of IMAX theaters, that didn't require glasses...but was told, the manufacture required they be returned by IMAX, and never made a version for public release.

Always wanted one of these but could never justify the price or the real estate. Kind of wish I snagged one just to have a 3D set, but I'll settle for 4k Oled goodness

Btw one of the monitor I got brand new in box for 35$ cdn money and the second out of box for 40$ with all the 3d glasses. 3 out of 4 works do.

Just found one today at a thrift store for $10. It seems to work ok haven't tested fully yet. But it looks nice.

I just picked up one on ebay for $150 with free shipping. They seem to be selling for around $250 consistently. (Check ebay sold listings). Anyway, I'm trying to see if I can use Nvidia's 3D glasses and a PC to play 3D games. Does anyone know if this is possible?

Can you use any 3d glasses with this or do you need the sony brand?

I'm watching this on this display. I've used it for my PS2, PSP, PS3, PS4, PS5, and PC over the last 10 years.

I absolutely would have bought it too for the sale price. We’ve never seen one locally. Definitely looks nice for it’s intended purposes

There is a working unit at a local Goodwill but it has a vertical line of dead pixels on the right side. They want $9.

The reliability issues are present on these, a lot of them were sent back to be refurbished. If you did buy one refurbished the chances of it dying are less. Fixing the issue is also pretty nuance and kinda' difficult-- so I do expect these go up in value (for working units that is). Then again it might follow in suite with the pricing of the Ps3 back-compat units since they are ticking time bombs.

So why in the Tv specs have Refresh rate: 240 Hz? and i dont see how to activate or just was a fake spec for sony? somebody can tell me if this specification is real ????

Always wanted this TV I finally got one a couple years ago I ordered a pair of glasses to play Batman 3D but the glasses aren't working correctly I think I never got to experience the 3D But it's pretty cool I also have the sound bar that has PlayStation on it anyways I love this thing for what it is. Oh by the way I got it real cheap I think it was like 50 bucks which is a miracle cuz I never get that lucky and it works just didn't have glasses or remote Well she gave me a remote doesn't have the back to it

were you ever able to get anything higher than 60hz on pc for it. i know the dysplay is suppose to be 120hz with facked 240hz. but never heard of anyone getting over 60hz

Was the playstation 3D display the only tv to have SimuaLink?

All of these channels tell you a lot of good things especially this one about the Sony display but none of them connected a Sony PSP with the component connections

Ps3 only output 720p. How good does this upscale to 1080p compared to tvs?

I have a friend who sells me this monitor in perfect condition for $90 with all its accessories, I use it for 1 year in 2015 (I also use it on his PC xd) but he left the country and sells it to me, it is clear that it has About 8 years without use, stored in its box. It's worth it? I want to use it as my main monitor to play day z, squad, warzone.

Update: on PC you can overclock this thing to 66Hz. I was able to with no problems.

I LOVE this thing....Now you can get them for about $100 and they are for sure worth it and makes an incredible Computer Monitor.

I had this tv for quite some time. What he say is all true. Does anyone played ps4 using this monitor? I have issues when it play certain games the image will be distorted when it reaches certain high frame rate. Im playing god of war 3 though on ps4

Those buttons at the is hard to access but if you have an android phone with an IR functionality, any Samsung remote control app should work 🤓

Would a PS1 or 2 be ok on this monitor?

Just buy something with a good game mode and high refresh rate. It was kinda small 24" for such high resolution. 1080p. It will work with og Xbox HD box.

Not going to mention the nail in the coffin for it, the black screen issue where it goes black randomly for a second or two every 30 to 40 mins or so? I bought two and they both do this, LOADS of reddit threads on it dating back to release that they never fixed. Many units got returned because of it then it was discontinued. I still mine as secondary monitors because I can live with the black screen thing if im not gaming on it. But beware if you pick this up as a cheap primary display this will be a deal breaker at any price point. Maybe you'll get lucky and yours wont have this bug, but Im 2 for 2 with it so odds may not be in your favor Also the volume up button is the only with a bymp you can feel to know which button your touching without looking on this play, not the power button. Just slight correction there. You can see the bump on it in the video

How would the ps5 look on this?

Not true ! I own 2 of theses monitor on each of my pc's. The image is INSANE !!!! Still today in 2022 ! It can go up to HDQ+ resolution 3590p with Amd cards. You just need to know how to arrange the settings in the monitor to bright out the crazy WOW image. If anybody needs my display settings let me know

Would this work for a ps5?

It kinda makes me mad that nobody else is bothering to make little 3D TVs. I was gonna get one of these till I found out how often they failed.

Dude. It was one of the few Sony TVs with the patented PSPZoom feature that, sadly, came out towards the end of the PSPs life. It looks really great, but pissed me off so much that we had wanted something like that at the inception of the PSP instead if that forced, shrinked aspect ratio you had to play psp games in with the component and composite cables forever. It’s better than all that hyperkin crap.

I picked one up for 45 bucks on offer up about 3 years ago. Running great! Still my favorite display. Then I picked up the two 3d glasses for 8 dollars with casing on Mercari.

24 inches 😅😅😅 they should've made it 27
