I love how Sonic Team took trips to the regions they wanted to represent in the stages of the game both in Adventure and Sonic Unleashed, it makes both SA and SU feel so much more filled with love and attention to detail than other games before, or since these two.
Well, in 2008 the internet was more widespread. They probably didn't waste money on travelling the world a second time. Though this doesn't mean they didn't do a good job. I love that game.
I feel everytime Uekawa is brought up, I need to poke a bit of his other Sega history with Ristar, and how he was the character illustrator for that game!
The first time I played sonic adventure I thought it was a very short game, then I realized I had been playing a small demo xD Latin american knuckles is best knuckles 👌👌👌
I like your commentary! Very open-minded, but not shying away from how you feel about it. This style of commentary makes me want to come back for more content!
It actually really hurt, when you said that Amy's story isn't fun. I hope you understand. And I'm not saying your not allowed your own opinion, I just wanted at'least one person to know how upset it makes me when they criticise her gameplay.
Amy's story is over in like 10 minutes so she doesn't have too much time to shine which is pretty unfortunate, i think if she had more bite sized puzzles and more combat i think she would be more fun (which she already is but not as fun as the others like sonic knuckles or gamma)
Amy's story could be fun, the hammer jumps are like the most satisfying thing in the game. But she has to be at a full run to do them, and the slightest turn halts your momentum on them. It's more of a tragedy than anything. And using your hammer on the ground forces you into a full stop, which forces you to jump. It's unfortunate, and I feel like they could've hammered out these issues if she was playable in SA2, like how they hammered out the issues with Knuckles. But unfortunately, she really hasn't returned as a playable character in quite some time, and if they do they don't bring back her SA1 gameplay.
Sick video man. I'm of the opinion that SA1 is better than SA2 and doing a solid job of carrying on the elements of the classic game. I do feel that the lack of a saturn game hurt Sonic a lot as well by creating a new flavor of sonic with a new generation of drinkers. Classic is like Dr Phibb and Adventure was like Dr Thunder or some shit. Similar but completely different armies that would murder the other in cold blood. Amy as a concept was the most appealing to me but the history of the development of this game explains why Amy and Tails and Gamma just got rehashed remixed stages instead of new content that explicitly leverages their gameplay mechanics in the best way possible lol. The game was really made for Sonic and your comment about him getting the most love rings true. Good video overall! Now that you've gotten the appetizer out of the way, when you gonna move on to the main course? SONIC SHUFFLE. If you do, be sure to hit me up I'm yo nigga for that game.
Glad you enjoyed the video! Also Sonic Shuffle 🤣 The forgotten masterpiece. I'll need some time to do that game justice. Months. Years. Even centuries.
Honestly I always wonder and just curious whenever people mention sonic being a dead franchise I often ask what quantifies as a dead franchise? I only bring this up because I'm starting to feel people like to throw that phrase around carelessly especially when sonic is involved
That's because you're right, it isn't a dead franchise. Sonic hasn't been as successful as he could've been in terms of games for the past few years sure, but he's still a pretty iconic mascot of the gaming industry up there with Mario, Link, Megaman, etc. Very few people don't recognize who he is even now. He's a literal staple of pop culture. But people have this idiotic mentality that just because they don't like something anymore that that means it's dead. It's even weirder when people say that despite the dozens upon dozens of fan material and passion projects that come out every year revolving around him, not to mention the two successful live action movies that came out not that long ago, and the upcoming third movie, show, and video game. Who knew that such an apparently dead franchise could still have companies pulling out teeth to get to it, because it's in such great demand from fans but old and new alike.
@@iregretsomeofmypreviouscom3284on an interesting note, Sonic, Crash, and Spyro all had games that were considered “mixed bags” back then. Surprisingly, only one out of three managed to survive not having to go under a hiatus for a long while…and who else but the Blue Blur to still keep going.
Sonic was called a dying franchise because unlike most mascot characters, he was going toe to toe with Mario. Any deviation from his fame will be considered "dying." Of course the stupidities that followed didnt help. Penders owning legal rights to most Sonic character stories, Emi revealing he got railed by Drummond, Sega going almost bankrupt, the dip in quality of the games, the lack of confidence with Sonic Team's abilities and the toxicity of so called Sonic fans.
@WhatIsMind48 is he, though? If anything, it seems that people are comparing him to Mario despite both companies not being enemies anymore and the competition being left behind years ago. Yeah, you got that right. Don't forget the circle jerk and the ridiculous hot takes on Twitter when it comes to Sonic.
Well, not really... while it DOES have pinball mechanics, the momentum physics themselves are relatively lackluster... - Controls too slippery for 3D. - Inability to run over walls or ceilings. - Airspeed too high, no air resistance whatsoever. And... while the level design in SRB2 CAN complement the engine, it doesn't have many of the things that Sonic used to have... what really turns me down, is the lack of Loop-De-Loops in the game.
@@Eldoofus controls being slippery are what makes it so fun with the speed you can get. not only that, it has the classic sonic gameplay for all characters. Ie: no treasure hunting or stealth added in. The only loops adventure had was automated. It keeps the classic designs and storytelling. All in all, it's way more faithful than the adventure games
@@Sydney_Angelyt As far as physics goes, it's not really one-to-one with the Classics, it does get some stuff right, but it's not much more faithful than Adventure1 in THAT regard (Sonic Adventure wasn't even trying to be too faithful)
It's not weird to me how the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise is in the 30s while Sonic as a character is still 15 and no there aren't contacts, his eyes are actually green just like everyone else has they're own eye color. It's just the way things are now and I don't mind it actually like modern Sonic, unlike a lot of people I have a connection to modern Sonic since I grew up in this era. I was born in the 2000s so I didn't grow up with classic Sonic, I still like Classic Sonic but I have a connection to the modern son and, no one's going to stop me from telling everyone how I feel!!!
Breath of the wild moved switches sonic hasn’t had that power since the genesis I would equate sonic games to gold fish snack food buy it for toddlers sing it’s praises but personally snub your nose at it… that being said sonic is a great character I would love for “his” gameplay to be more in the sense that his games are more creative polished and I’m optimistic about frontiers I just hope that the soundtrack doesn’t include shitty vocals for the music and more specifically no singing generations was good but at times boring hence why I say creative and polished… but anyway…
@@thomashaugh8720 Sonic Adventure 2 got pretty close with the GameCube, which was considered a dying console at a time too. I get that some of the Sonic games are a bit on the rudimentary side. But there's definitely more "advanced" aspects than what you're expressing. The early 3d games and some of the later titles exemplify this really well. Also... I don't get the comparison with breath of the wild... Just because a video game franchise doesn't move units or save consoles, doesn't make it any less valuable.
I thought we were done with the "Sonic is dead/dying" myth. What about the 2nd movie breaking records? Or everyone at the edge of their seats for Sonic Prime and Sonic Frontiers? The big boy release?
You can disagree if you want but I think that the other gameplay styles isn't bad or boring It's just that sonic is way too fun and I would argue that highly praised games like Mario 64 would feel the same (Kinda boring vibe of the other playable characters in SA1) if it was implemented like them Because again it's sonic being too fun Not the extra characters being bad And honestly as I mastered playing sonic (Using the slopes and the spin-dash) Tails and knuckles who I really enjoyed looked so boring that I no longer play and now all my new save files of the games are 100% sonic and 0% for the rest of the playable cast.
I do think Sonic adventure most of it has aged pretty well. I think the gameplay for sonic, tails, gamma, and even for knuckles has aged well. I enjoyed playing as Amy back then, but yeah looking back at it it's not as fun. However one thing that still sucked back then that obviously sucks now but yes when the game was new it sucked back then is big the cat. It's a Sonic game I don't want to go fishing for a stupid frog. You can even tell by Sonic's tone of voice that he's losing patience with big the cat when big retrieves froggy from chaos 6. What obviously has not a well though of course are the animations from the cutscene and yeah I mean for a lot of it the voice acting isn't very good. There's some parts that they do fine I guess but obviously for a good amount of it yeah not so much.
It's not dying, I mean a lot of my friends loved Sonic Forces and felt it was finally a return to the Generations formula that we all needed. I'm not necessary agreeing with them but it certainly isn't dying, just stagnated for a bit.
People said the franchise was dying way back in ‘03. Sonic will live forever; kids have a different view of the games than the critics and god-awful shitty ass fanbase have.
