Hi Matt, I'd like to add my admiration to your gathering clan of followers here. I started helping out plant fitting when I was about twelve and that was about fifteen years earlier than the build of your Cat. I was a big lad for my age and was often used as a pack horse carrying the consumables from the service truck to the machine often across ground like battlefields. Glad I've found your site - had my heart in my mouth when the little washer almost dropped in the gear selector box! I still have a couple of mini diggers here in the U.K. and regularly lay underneath them with oil dripping off my elbows fifty odd years later. Great work, I shall pop in again.

That machine is a beast. Amazing to see what the assembly lines of the 1960s and 1970s were able to produce - without robots.
@frankdeegan8974
@frankdeegan8974 2 года назад
Most people do not fathom the power of this beast. Yes there are bigger ones now. Anything you put in front of this is destroyed or moved. I worked near a 977H and I would say for their size they are not a beast they are a Horror Show they are fast for a loader, power to weight maybe a little light they will move things that are too heavy so when you let the load down it will slam down back to level and give the operator a good kick in the pants, as you saw matt bounce in this video. You run this for a day and you will know you did something. ENJOY-money well spent for a man sized toy not a big boy toy.

@@frankdeegan8974 yes if I remember correctly the finals and diff if not the trans too is geared faster than a regular dozers. Not intended to push but scoop and run/dump and run again. Not as fast as a wheeled loader but better in soft or environments that would do in tires.

Matt I would like to say it’s a real pleasure watching a young man like you doing all the diagnostic and repair work to that 977. Most people today would bring the starter to cat for an exchange. You prove that a budget does effect the way people think. The complete service of all the compartments including the oil change after warm up was very impressive. You have had some great training from somewhere in your life. Keep up the great work, and All the best to you on your projects.

I really like this. You know, I guess a "working museum" of sorts. Diesel Creek maybe the opposite end of the working museum spectrum from David Richard's channel but some diversity is almost always a good thing. Something valuable in seeing them in action rather than sitting behind glass and an info card. And it's not just history either, part of it is demonstrating the Depression era spirit; that you don't have to buy new, you can keep old stuff working.

Just a side note a lot of the factory Cat hydraulic hoses used reusable fittings instead of crimp style. It's an Iron Mike style fitting with the outside sleeve that slides down over it. The easy way to tell is if it's got crimp creases on the sleeve or not. Anyway a cut piece of hose can be cheaper a lot of times if you got the fittings than getting a crimped one made. Just make sure the hose you get is for the reusable fittings.

This delightful knowledge knugget - tossed off during a discussion of costs of owning heavy equipment: "...big girls are always expensive dates..." - much wisdom in this channel! LOL! That's a T-shirt if I ever heard one.

Good day Matt, it never ceases to amaze me why you don't clean the muck off the equipment once you know it runs, I bet you ask yourself every time you get a mouth full of mouse droppings. Great video as usual. God bless, John, Surrey UK

Barn owner: So let me get this right, You will knock down my old barn and all I have to do is give you two old Iron machines that haven't moved, been serviced for 12 years after a potential hard life meaning you will spend probably $1000 each machine to get them to run? Matt: Yes, it's a sickness I have :) Barn owner: Can I tell you about a multi marketing investment business I'm about to start from my home office? :D :P ;)

Free advice - Clear the filters , remove the metal debris and swap the fluids . Recheck the screens after 50 hours and take a view from there. Chances are that's 30 years of metal collection, rather than signs of immanent destruction. For the number of hours you're going run , you should get away with it fine .

Guy K - as a Cat D11T certified mechanic I agree. The D77K's were made from 1966 to 1971. The metal on those plugs could be from 50 years or more of operation. Everything else looked and sounded good for a machine of that age. As for that large piece of metal, those kinds of things break off all the time on machines that old. It's not a sign of imminent catastrophic failure. Also, balance the tension on both tracks as even as possible.

I agree, they fit magnets and a filter to the transmission for a reason, they know there's going to be metal there and they want to catch it. While the metal is stuck to a magnet it isn't getting meshed between gears and doing harm.

The contact plate in the solenoid can sometimes be taken apart and FLIPPED over to the back side which would be completely flat and need just a slight buffing. there is usually a spring and a clip holding the contact plate loaded. Have done this on a few old starters. Although I couldn't determine if yours comes completely apart.

It was nice seeing Wes on the channel with you. Matt by the time you finish knocking down the barn and a few hours extra I’d service the fluid and filters in the transmission again to get the rest of the old fluid out for good. The original fluid that came out by the transmission the color looked like liquid concrete. Looking forward to seeing the next video on the Jeep. Have a Blessed One Sir.
