Hi Almando What an interestng video which I really enjoyed watching. You certainyl do some excellent work :-) Thanks and I am looking forward to watching the update after calibration and tension adjustment Tony (UK)
Tony: Sorry that I didn't do a video of the calibration. I have always stated that I can't work and do the video at the same time. I will try to do a calibration video one day. But no promises.
Have you succeeding to fix the dragging tape issue with the large reel when you press play at 7:55 min ? I have the same behavior and not sure what to look for. Thanks
It was the pinch solenoid. It was not engaging correctly. I pulled it apart, cleaned it up properly ensuring that it is bone dry, and no oil or grease on it. I also adjusted the brakes, ensuring that they engaged at the same time. That's what I did to correct the problem. You should also post your questions on www.tapeheads.net. There all the experts will respond to you.
I restore Amped 2" quad broadcast video tape machines thay weight about 1 ton. With 2 electro-.mechanical servo systems and 2 electronic servos, not to mention all the delicate alignment procedures, working on audio tape machines are a walk in the park!
@@almandog still get parts for it? The quads are very old are very tough to come by. Because of this, some circuits have to be redesigned using modern parts.
There are so many different models of these decksc and PCB to match each. The capstan PCB might work, but I recommend that you look at the circuit diagram in both B77 And PR99 service manual. I also recommend that you post your question on tapeheads.net. Lots of tape techs are there and will provide answers.
Hi Almondo. Who in the California area would you recommend is very good at working on a Revox b77? I have a high speed half track unit that works well in every area but will not go into record mode. Plays back prerecorded tape fine. Transport works great. I live in Northern Nevada but driving any distance to a qualified repair shop is not a problem for me.
Hello: Go to tapeheads.net and search for Tinman. He is in LA area I believe. He is a Revox, Studer, and Tascam/Teac reel to reel tape recorder expert.
Are the PCB traces popping off the board easily ? Revox is known for very delicate PCB's. Which multimeter would you suggest with high impedance like a VTVM ?
Yes I experienced that issue on Revox A77. Those boards were in a bad shape from the start. I had to use solder and wire to bridge the PCB traces in several spots on the boards. You can't use too much heat on those boards.
Hi, Almando. I live in Honolulu and have a B77 case that I was going to throw out. Would you like to have it? I have no use for it since I purchased on after-market case for my B77. Let me know.
Hello: Please post your questions to www.tapeheads.net You will get many experts on tape decks to help you for free. RU-vid is not the right place for technical support.
I meant to say parts cost in excess of $700. I buy only the good stuff so it cost a bit more. I don't know about labor as this is a hobby and I don't do repairs for anyone.
