Reynatis - A Flashy Borefest 

I kinda expected this. Content Creators completely overhyped the whole game. This is not KH4 or V13 or Verum Rex and I don't understand why people thought it was.

Here's a fun trivia for you: this game is called Reynatis because it's an attempt at saying "born king" in latin. Unfortunately, they swapped "natus" for "natis", so now this game's title means... "Butt King"

You have to give it to the devs tho. They constantly make games that hyped people up because of how stylish it looks, regardless of the mediocre end results seemingly lol.

Finally someone being entirely honest about this game I've not seen anything special from all the coverage

I respect the fact you were willing to talk about the game like this while being given a review code. Truthfully I might end up getting this on deep sale, but the fact I don't believe it has an English dub means it's way lower on my priority list. My wife likes to listen to the story while doing something else and she can't do that when it's not English.

Yeah fair enough. Tried the demo and was like "meeeeeh". Making combat stamina based is a huge red flag to me. Without that I probably would've tried the full thing at least (because it felt nice otherwise). Knowing about the repetition is nice though, puts me off even more. And yeah goddamn that camera.

It felt like a psp Square game without the console port polish. I enjoyed the demo but its definitely a get-in-on-sale type of game.

The Caligula Effect games from Furyu were pretty good though. I especially enjoyed Caligula Effect 2. But it is unfortunate that Reynatis did not hit the mark.

You didn't like CryMachina, but I love it. So I'll try Reynatis. I also completed Trinity Trigger despite its disgusting stamina system (I hate this kind of limits), I also played CryStar.

Must have been a fun game in the PS3/XBox 360 era :(

I tried the demo, It's art aesthetics like if keyblade wielders went up against the Quincy. Sponsored by Burger King. They should have cooked and seasoned it more.

If it had as good a story as Crystar, I wouldn't mind necessarily. But they didn't dub it. So I wouldn't even be able to have as strong an emotional connection, either. That drops Reynatis down to the bottom of the list for games I'm going out of my way to try. Especially because - I played Crystar - and the base design of that gameplay is so thoroughly bad (without glitches) as to warrant an essay. Like, I played the Dusk Diver games. The story there is okay, but the games are at least fun. They'd be more fun if I could understand the conversations mid-fights. Edit: I was thinking about what you said at the end about avoiding their games at release. That's rough, but quite emblematic of their problem. They're missing so many marks on their games right now that it's doing brand damage to even the super-fans.

Having played the demo, I'm still looking forward to this. It may not have a lot of depth, but sometimes I'm in the mood for lack of complexity. It's like a meditative experience over a roller-coaster. Of course, I may get 5 hours into it and come to the same conclusion. I will say I played Soul Hackers 2 to completion and enjoyed it. So my opinion probably isn't relevant to most people.

The "Z1000 with 50cc engine "analogy is how I'll describe stuff from now on.

One thing that didn't get mentioned but is probably worth noting: FuRyu games also tend to be expensive. They often times charge full price for their games, even the ones that are ports of outdated console releases. I remember being charged almost 90 CAD for Crystar's Switch version, and Crymachina on PS5. Neither of those games should be that much. I have no doubt that Reynatis will cost just as much as Final Fantasy 16 to purchase.

Thanks for the honest review. Alot of content creators get these freebies or previews and feel obligated to present a favorable review. I really wanted to like the game, and support NIS. I didn't realize at first that Furyu was developing it, and I feel that they've been pretty lackluster when it comes to games.

Man furyuu has such great ideas with such mediocre execution. I feel like they could make these amazing games if they weren’t rushed out in such a lackluster state.

I actually really wanted to like this, mainly because of the TWEWY collab. The other issues can be tolerated for me but the one thing I absolutely CAN’T compromise on is camera. Seeing the camera go beserk in your gameplay is already giving me a headache so I guess it’s a pass for me 😢

At the end of the day, this game is made by a fairly new Dev. He’s basically an indie dev who got backed by some big names to get him started. I was expecting something along the lines of indie to AA levels of quality. Since I didn’t overhype it for myself. This still seems like a alright game to turn my brain off to. When it goes on sale of course.

Maybe this game won't be boring for those who never played a video game, let alone an Action RPG (or JRPG)...

I used to be a huge preorder guy for years, up until a couple years ago. It was really then several games weren’t worth the full price. Now I just have long wishlists on amazon, Walmart etc. it’s sad cause this game looked great at first, I’ll get it at a good sake. Thanks for your honest review.

Such a shame, kinda loving the early 2000 aesthetic with the lower quality character models and Shibuya. What other rpg/action games are based in Shibuya aside from The World Ends with You?

i've never been a fan of furyu games, but this one's aesthetic interested me. i still might get it on a deep deep sale but yeah i really expected this lol. the NEO TWEWY crossover is still cute though

Its a jankfest you literally have to stop and block just to attack or else you cannot attack at all

I'm surprised that you didn't say more (or anything, really) about the story and characters, considering you're self-described as a story first, gameplay second kind of JRPG fan.

When the wanted concept was explained to me, i was like ... wait. You're wanted by the magic police for using magic and so their response ... is to have a magic battle? Idk if this is the case but it seems like it😅

Going to try the demo for myself before I rule anything out. The Alliance Alive was an enjoyable experience from FuRyu for me so maybe this could be too. For that matter I also thought Trinity Trigger was good. Didn't reinvent the wheel for anything but was enjoyable as it was.

Gah, I wish it wasn't like this with a lot of companies. I am not sure about this one, but a lot of these lower budget jrpgs have something about them that really sticks out and makes it unique/interesting. For some its the story, others its the game mechanics, and though less likely some its the art style. But it feels like they put all their skills points in that one stat and actually go into the negative in all the other stats somehow. What makes it worse is the inability to reflect and learn from their mistakes. I don't want game companies that have good innovative ideas to die as its bad for the whole genre. But do these people even play their games or do they not even care? Is this like the anime industry, where the author has a good story but then gives their project to a studio who makes it but just doesn't give a crap? I wish I could understand, but I don't haha. With bigger corporations, it's always easy to understand, they just want money and will do anything they can to make it.

I changed my screen settings to Borderless Windowed to get rid of the screen tearing.

Yep very nail like depiction of Reynatis actually. Played the demo on my switch 4 times primarily because I had loads of problems attempting to read the tiny white subtitles 😩 I would really appreciate it if developers and designers added the option to change the subtitle colors or at least the size, because let’s be honest not every game can handle the standard small white subtitles. At least have an appropriate text bubble color for the text…… Only character I had any interest or attachment to was the summoner girl you were introduced to at the tail end of the ( to short demo) the main characters were a bit bland a bit boring and lackluster and a bit hard to like… if the summoner girl was actually one of the main characters I’d be happy however ❤ Aside from that everything you have touched on and covered in your video is valid ( though I actually found the combat system and music intriguing as well as the world the games set in) the character models 😱😭 reminded me of bloodrayne a bit honestly however their still better then what Pokémon has so that’s at least something 😉 Still that’s just my feelings from the demo, at the same time I’m still debating if I want to pick up the game🤔 because I’m still interested enough to be curious

Kudos, that's one of the reason I like your channel I've played many furyu games never managed to finish one got bored rather quickly, yet I've rarely heard anyone being objective about them they're not necessarily bad games but you get bored rather quickly, they are pretty much hollow as a whole

Played the demo saw nothing " boring" about. It sure it's not the legend of heroes or any triple A title but. They worked hard, and if the devs are fairly new, im giving them a chance everyone's entitled to an opinion. Visions of mana was amaing demo to full game . Just kinda hate how people trash or bash games while yes, the studio is not making the biggest. Wow type games that'll bliw you away with graphics it came from the heart that's all that matters

I have not played any JRPG titles outside of kingdom hearts series.. so, if this one isn't worth it, since i really like the atmosphere, what other game do you think actually is worth to buy that has similar atmosphere & gameplay style?

This is disappointing to hear. I was excited about Crymachina when that released... then I played it and put it down after a few hours or so. Looked great but was boring. Sad to hear that this is the same. I've already preordered so, we will see if I cancel and wait for a sale

Furyu's obvious MO at this point is making dollar store versions of Square Enix games. Maybe it's time for them to scrap that philosophy and concentrate on making original works

As someone who played the originally japanese release im glad i did i like the characters designs and the combat but the exploring was very dull, side quests had no context, The story wasn't grand and i had high hopes for it with who was involved in the project would i play a sequel if it happened yes but only if it was graphically enhanced better other than that great review dude

Finish the demo absolutely loved it and everything else I've heard about the game from reviews gives me a feeling that this game in general is going to be one I love but I'm going to be told that I'm supposed to hate it everywhere

I played the demo for this game and it felt like a massive piece of jank. Uninstalled within 20-30 mins. I'm here for the 8 mins bashing session lmao.

Not gunna lie I find the jank of FuRyu games charming. Got quite a few on my backlog. But agreed they’re games to be picked up from sales

Tried the demo for less than an hour and got so bored that I had to close it.

Visuals are nice but gameplay looks extremely generic as typical Furyu. All these years and they are still guilty of this. Some of their games do have decent story though.

I think this is worth it at around $20 when it goes on deep sale. Gives low budget PS2 JRPG feeling but in 2024.

I mean it's furyu, at this point you should've already expect what kind of game and quality that you're getting from them. Reynatis on the surface already looks so unappealing to me for the simple fact that the director seems fanboying Nomura a lot and tried so hard to mimick his style, especially with that male protagonist who looks like Noct / Riku number 6723. They really should just do their own thing.

Crymachina and Crystar would be more interesting if only they made the dungeon more interesting, maybe some color would be good, I might skip Reynatis so I can't say anything about it, but I kinda like Crymachina and Crystar story, it's pretty much go the way you expected, it's easily predictable, cliche, but it's still fun, I feel it has "soul" in its story, but the gameplay and map is just..... nope.

I might be in the minority, but I kinda enjoy these types of games. There's something cozy about a low budget, meandering jrpg. I enjoyed Caligula Effect, Monark etc in the same way. Sometimes 10/10 masterpieces can get a bit intimidating and exhausting at times. I love SMT and Trails, but sometimes I want to chill with some junk food jrpg.

Honestly this doesn’t surprise me given the trailers, The only FuRyu game that has been Legitimately good has been The Caligula Effect and even that’s a game with some big issues It’s one thing for a game studio to hold onto old generation sensibilities (I will forever consider the PS2 era to be one of the very best) but at some point you actually have to make competent games to honour that studio philosophy and a full price tag, else it just comes across as amateurish. There are only so many times a studio can keep making the same mistakes before it becomes annoying and this is the breaking point right here

Was also cautious of Furyu games because of Trinity Trigger, and now doubly glad that the butt-ugly character designs of this game had put me off and made it a hard pass to me when it was announced.

Not gonna lie this is exactly what I figured it would be and I'll probably get it on sale just like I have for literally every other Furyu game I've played. Worth it at a discount, never full price.

I tried the demo a couple of days ago. I only played for about 20 minutes cuz i was tired, but it was definitely different from what i was expecting. I'm not obsessed with quality but it felt like I was playing a ps3/xbox 360 game. I guess that's part of the whole "making games look better than they actually are" business for ya. I like some of the ideas, but the execution wasn't perfect. Maybe I'll finish the demo and my feelings might change but idk if I see myself getting the actual game for the time being.

This game was mostly made by 1 person only supposedly… considering this… maybe it deserves a little bit of credit despite its flaws. EDIT: I Made a Huge Mistake... this game isn't AIKODE, for some reason I thought it was AIKODE, but AIKODE has not released yet and is made by just 1 person and looks ton more impressive than Reynatis xD

Really a shame. I liked the older games, like the both Caligula Effect games. I believe they made the HD Remastered version of The Aliance Alive too. They already went a fair bit downwards with MONARK, but after seeing this I think this game is not for me. Really a shame, because I was mildly interested (yeah I had my slight doubts already). Well - It's not that there are no upcoming games at all, so letting this one pass will not hit me that hard. It's a shame though, because there was some potential.

4:15 Just for the record in case it helps anyone; switching to borderless windowed mode seems to solve this issue, at least it did for me on the demo. Doesn't excuse the very limited settings on PC but for those who do plan to play this should make life easier.

5 hours? Less than 30 minutes with the demo and I checked out. A low budget meh outing

yeah this is why i said i was going to wait for a deep sale on this. its a bad sign for Furyu when i see their games and they LOOK interesting but i never end up actually buying them.

I tried the demo, and I mostly finished out of determination. Which is a problem when the demo is about a half hour.

A lot of these systems feel like "cancelled smartphone game".

The Game has good ideas with the whole Wizards, Guilds, and Magic System being slowly revealed to the real world. It feels similar to Bleach with the Soul Society and stuff, but with the "what if" the real world found out about it. It looks like they screwed up the Combat by trying to be to "unique" when you just need some good old fashion ARPG Combat with Flashy Abilities or Spells in this Games case. This Game fells like a missed opportunity sadly, like many JRPGs today......

Exactly what I was expecting. The trailers for the game really did look good, but as soon as I saw that Furyu name all hype was gone for me. I was willing to give it a shot if the reviews sounded good, but now I think I'll pass. Too many other games to play, like how I'm just now getting around to Granblue Fantasy Relink and having a lot of fun with it.

Maybe the whole Burger King deal could at least pay for a better camera work

The writing was on the wall with the game honestly, the first time I saw the gameplay trailer I was immediately turned off by it. Then I see videos about it being the next KH and im going to be honest, I was completely dumbfounded. I had to click on the video… i guess the click bait did work afterall 😅
