Otto's issue was never being a bad hand. To be honest, he's probably the most competent hand in the series we've seen which is just sad. His issue is that he puts his and his families' ambitions above the realm.

I think there is some misunderstanding about why Alicent gave Rhaenyra so much shit in season 1. The main problem Alicent had with Rhaenyra in season 1 (at least as far as I gather) was that Rhaenyra wanted to be THE queen, but wanted absolutely nothing to do with the sacrifices required to become one. Like actively making decisions weakening her claim to the throne, and as a cherry on top, she tried to get her bastards married to Alicents daughter, which is basically a slap in the face. Alicent at the time probably had some resentment because she did everything right, made a bunch of a sacrifices, while Rhaenyra basically did whatever she wanted with no consequence.

I’m confused with rhaenyra she acts like she wasn’t the one begging for daemon’s help last season when he planned to leave the entire country with his daughters after his wife’s funeral and return to pentos. She did the same thing as her father and just assumed daemon said something when even us as watchers have no proof. The writers did a good job of showing us that aegon and rhaenyra are related by them getting emotional and ruining their relationship with their greatest asset right before war breaks out

In the bts they say that moment between Heleana and Aegon is like a silent moment where they both understand each other’s pain and acknowledge each other silently. But I don’t think they do a good job of conveying it. It looks more like Aegon giving her the cold shoulder more than anything. Which sucks because that would actually be such a good character development for their relationship.

They are in times of war. Its terrible but it IS the right call when they need to gain forces to win the war. They even said how people still want to support Rhaenrya and remember they don’t want to surrender so people WILL die to end the war. Aegon won’t give up the throne so unless the Blacks KILL Aegon, the war wont end. In the Green’s mindset, they hope to get Rhaenyra to surrender to stop the war so yeah they have to do whatever they can to get enough forces if they ideally want each side to survive rather than have one wipe out the other. As I said, its fucked up but yeah its necessary. Unfortunately Aegon ruined it all by losing his cool

I honestly felt for Aegon in this episode. I really didn’t blame him when he lashed out and killed all those rat catchers out of anger and frustration. It was obviously a heinous act for sure, but he made it EXTREMELY clear that he wanted to retaliate and that there was no questioning that order from the King, yet everyone around him, ESPECIALLY Otto, treated Jaehaerys death like a opportunity to gain power and a chance to take leverage in the war. Aegon didn’t care about power or strategy - he truly just wanted revenge for them killing his baby boy, which deeply humanizes him and really makes us feel bad for him. At some point, I just have to have respect and admiration for someone who just says f*** this stupid “game of thrones” and acts like a human being in this world. (not a good human per say - but someone who has emotions and lets them go too far at times)
