@@Nicholas121093 Just because you can see the future doesn't mean you see absolutely everything. She some some, didn't see others. it's that simple.......in the end, it was Aegon's coronation that eventually led to the events of blood and cheese.
I honestly think it is poetic! The red wipes away the greens xD. If their was a dance of dragons between Viserys and Rhaenys it wouldve been the Blacks vs The Reds for sure
The fact she doesn't seem to acknowledge what she did, no context is given to explain if she had another route of escape and the show doesn't mention this again are really making me worry about the writing in future seasons.
@@user-zv2vm8bd8h Agreed. All we know for sure is that there is an exterior entrance to the Dragonpit that we see many times earlier in the season that Rhaenys chose not to use.
@@AGuyCalledHarry I believe you are right. The large back doors at the back of the Pit are not visible from the inside of the dome so they are probably connected to the underground caverns.
imo this makes her the most evil character in the show so far. maybe aegon is worse due to the depths of his evil, even though its on a smaller scale, but this was just pure evil. sauron would be proud.
@@user-zv2vm8bd8h- It makes me worry about the writing in the show as well, since we all know this event *DOES NOT HAPPEN* in the novel. 🤦🏻♀️🙄 But the show did it anyway, all so they could have some big spectacle... making Rhaenys look terrible, in the process! They also showed Aemon One-Eye killing Lucerys "on accident" in the next episode. Which was also utter rubbish! Aemon 100% kills that boy ON PURPOSE in the source material... he even goes back home & BRAGS about it, ffs. He's a psychopath. Alicent doesn't defend Rhaenyra, or suggest that the council spare her or her children either! In the book she is fully on board w/killing them ALL, cuz she's a vile, bitter, evil woman, who doesn't care that her rapey, alcoholic, murderous son isn't fit to sit the throne. She just doesn't want Rhaenyra getting to. But the show clearly wants both sides to look "equally bad" so that the fandom can have fun picking their favorite teams in the war. They have Daemon seducing a 15yr old Rhaenyra (something that was only a rumor in the novel), AND show him killing his 1st wife too! Also something he does not do! He was still out fighting in the Stepstones when she died, and he wasn't anywhere near the woman. If the writers are going to keep making their own fanfiction like this, I'll stop watching... because I already learned my lesson with Game of Thrones & I am NOT enduring that again.
You said bitch, though? I mean, you looked her dead in her eye sockets? I said.....(side eye left, side eye right, side eye left, right, left, does a 180° Searching the desolate, frozen landscape, checks phone to make sure he hadn't butt dialed the her)....biiiitttcch" Eta: sorry, couldn't resist lmao
This feels like the equivalent of the "Ned telling Cersei" moment. Emotionally, they are both decisions meant to try and save lives and not be the one responsible for getting people killed. But logically, both are terrible choices that result in a war that will have the entire realm tearing itself apart all because each individual wanted to avoid blood on their hands.
This is why I disliked this scene. This never happened in the books. She just got on Meleys and escaped. I know they were going for something like you're saying but it makes her look like an idiot. I already know as more season come out and tragedies continue happening there's going to be a bunch of "hurhurhur Rhaenys is so dumb for not taking the chance she had." I'm sure I'll still enjoy the show but stuff like this is what makes me begin dividing a character between their book version and their tv counterpart. Like now show Rhaenys is a completely different character in my mind.
@BlitzkriegFeuerFrei I wonder if, given what happens later in the war, this scene is supposed to be what motivates Rhaenys to personally join in the fighting. Since she was in the back of her mind, she knows (especially where season one ended) that she could have stopped all of this from ever happening. So, perhaps season 2 will have her mindset framed as "I have to make up for my mistake"
@@BlitzkriegFeuerFreiif the spectacle was so important, all they needed was to have Sunfire in the hall too. All goes exactly as it does here, only the reason for her not nuking them is that it's a stalemate with two huge dragons.
@@gamerguy19981that could have made sense, but literally the next thing she does after this scene is fly to Rhaenyra, declare for her, and then persuade Corlys to do the same. It may have made sense if she'd flown to Rhaenyra, told her what had happened and then basically said "this is the situation, fight among yourselves and keep me out of it". But she didn't.
Rhaenys and Meleys could have ended it all right there with one single word: DRACARYS!!! And all of Rhanerya and Daemon's enemies would have been taken out in one massive fireball! The Greens would have been annihilated and history and future of Westeros would be vastly different. Crazy. Absolutely amazing scene tho.
It would have end NOTHING ! Daeron is still alive and would have make a formidable challenge to her reign with Tessarion and the vast army from the South. The Westerlands would have rebelled immediately after the murder of Tyland Lannister and the Blacks would have simply started the war with the infamous status of kinslayers : they would have lost the support of many lords after a mass murder before fifty thousand witnesses...
@@sanjaykarthicks1226 No it's Tessarion vs Meleys + Caraxes + a sweet princess too lazy (or too coward) to use a dragon + Four big salamandras. More seriously, dragons aren't everything in a war. There are plenty of other settings. A dragon is not invulnerable, Dorne and the Triarchy have proven. A dragon cannot be in several places at the same time, a dragon cannot feed armies or pay mercenaries. The Greens have more men, more resources, more influence. If the Dance of the Dragons proves anything, it's that owning dragons is no guarantee of safety.
That little nod from Helaena . . . I have two theories. One, she might have been encouraging Rhaenys to go ahead and fire on all of them. Two, I think she also might have felt some odd satisfaction knowing that her prophecy was true, and there really was a beast beneath the boards.
If you listen to Helena whenever she’s on screen she predicts what’s going to happen I put it all together when I seen this scene and heard her say there’s a beast beneath the boards
You could tell there were people in the crowd who still supported Rhaenyra, they were the ones who just stood there without applauding, or who shook their heads.
@@lamadoo The comments sections really shows you how nobles and royals did all the horrible things they did in history. Look at them, hundreds of innocent people are killed and all the commentors care about is the drama it causes the Royals.
As unpleasant as Alicent is, you cannot deny she's very much like Cersei when it comes to her children and family. Like Cersei, she knew and understood perfectly well that her sons were monsters, but still defended them with her life. She was certain that they were all going to die here but her first instinct was to get in front of her children and die first. She knew they were no match for a dragon but she still used her body as a shield for them.
But Bruce at what point does a mother realize that defending her monstrous children becomes detrimental to not only her but numerous others? This was the exact same issue Cersei had. Yes she was being a mama bear protecting her cubs but she failed in never making those cubs face accountability and consequences. Look at how Joffrey turned out. Here it is the same with Alicent and her children...especially Aegon who proved to be a terrible king and shamed the Targaeryan name.
@@xyPERSON For the last time, I am not defending their actions, nor am I saying that they were good mothers. I am just emphasizing their love for their children.
@@Brucehumphrey I understand what you are saying Bruce. My point is mothers should not allow their love to blind them to the faults and flaws of their children.
@@xyPERSON I don’t disagree with that. My whole point for this post was to just highlight the love aspect, not the type or quality of mothers they are.
Sure, Alicent loves her children, but, the hypocrisy ruins much of who she is. Like...she's shaming Rhaenyra's children and the entire time I'm thinking do you see these fucked up mutants you raised?! It's always those pointing the finger.
The best performance in this scene is Aegon getting pumped when just a few minutes before he was dreading being King. He finally feels important and powerful after his father overlooked him for 20 years . . . it is too good for him to pass up. He is so arbitrary and unfit for the throne and I love it. People s*** on the Greens and on Aegon, but he is an extremely interesting character and Tom Glynn-Carney does a fantastic job.
@@robertcurtislorenzenjr7153 I loved that- right now he is a coward and a total hedonist. He may grow out of the cowardice . . . the hedonism? Nah. He's gonna be a disgusting shit for as long as he lives lmao.
@@kf338 Yeah, don't think it needs to be looked at literally. Besides, the show is leading you to think she was talking about the dragon...the beast beneath the boards that she's really talking about is coming in S2 😏
Even though most people are team black, there are several things happening in this scene which might cause someone to feel compassion for the greens. 1) Otto orders the doors of the Dragonpit open so the small folk can escape. 2) Alicent orders Cole to leave her and protect Heleana. 3) Alicent protects Aegon with her body. Rhynaes is a mother and so she might have been moved one mother to another.
They have no idea how to handle the power they so desperately seek. Otto screaming to keep the door open and no one is listening. Aegon hiding behind his mother. Pathetic.
Alicent moved in front of her child to shield him. What should Aegon have done, shove his mother aside and jumped at the dragon? Greens knew they couldn't do anything. There was no point but to just wait for Rhaenys to kill them or leave. Alicent followed her motherly instinct by protecting her child.
Maybe you should face a dragon, and then we’ll see how you do. Also, she went in front of him, he didn’t run back and cry behind his mother’s back, hell he stood almost perfectly still the entire time. Also, the person you’re rooting for probably killed dozens of people when she broke through the ground with her dragon, so some food for thought.
@@acrazysheepdog1555 he did cry out behind her and closed his eyes. And they’re royalty they all have blood on their hands. One doesn’t become king or Queen without blood.
Rhaenys didnt really have a good reason not to torch that group of usurpers. Her boy grandkids have her (husband's) name. her girl grandkids have her blood. She has to know they are gonna be pulled into a war for the throne that could claim their lives, and she could have ended it right there.
Raenys not killing every here is totally in character. She still thinks she can get these idiots to back down and get everything she wants especially since Aegons coronation hardly counts as a grand victory with all those people dead.
@@robbomegavlkafenryka6158 'You had the temperament to rule', even Rhaenys knew Allicent was failing to BS a BS'er in that scene and this just proves it.
@Robb Omega Vlka Fenryka imprisoned against her will by for blackmail, manages to escape her unjust imprisonment and shows them all she could have ruined them for it but chooses temperance and mercy. Yeah. Totally unfit for a ruler. Lol
Yeeahh and it makes no sense.... A slaughter of this scale would and should impact the story of Fire and Blood, at the very least the Greens should use it for their war propaganda, but no, probably won't even get a mention next season.
@@Keram-io8hv It's episode 4 of season 2 and Rhaenyra hasn't even left Dragonstone, while Aegon has already managed to participate in an actual battle (even though it was foolish of him).
I think Rahnaeys spared them because of Allicent. Not only did she have a soft corner for her, when she saw that Allicent was willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for her son - she turned away
It doesn't bother me nearly as much as when I first watched it, where I got the impression that Rhaenys was having Meleys smashing people deliberately, but I'll still be glad to see the consequences of this in one of the later Seasons with the dragon pit.
@@a_fuckin_spacemarine7514 Well apparently dragons are sometimes more intelligent than humans in GOT, said by some people including Tyrion in the show, but overall, dragons and how much they can think is inconsistent.
Why did she went through all that trouble entering the throne room killing a number of people on the way and not give the killing blow to the group of people that matters?
and would have proved before fifty thousand witnesses that the Blacks are worse than Maegor the Cruel. Half of Westeros would immediately rally Daeron to Oldtown, the other half would immediately abandon the cause of Rhaenyra...
When everyone was looking up at meleys and rhenys in disbelief after rhenys decided not to burn them to crisp, rhenys should've been like "SIKE bitch jk... DRACARYS!!!!".. Wasted opportunity
Drogon did symbolism on his own, which is why it was dumb, because dragons dont understand symbolism. Rhaenys was not a mad queen however, she just wants to be left alone.
@@yossi7765 And I'm sure Rhaenyra really appreciated that her aunt didn't put to the flame all the traitors so that the war would be over swiftly and none of her children would be brutally murdered just because she "wanted to be left alone"...Oh wait.
@@CatwithaKnife12 while also murdering countless smallfolk. In the books, it's a plot point that Tywin isn't loved in Kings Landing because he sacked it like, 17 years prior... This whole sequence should be huge for how the commoners view that side of the conflict, but it just sort of gets glossed over...
@@TheWorldBelowDnD @sebastianwillows Clearly killing small folk is not a concern of hers considering how she's most definetly murdered a few hundred of them by bursting out of the floor on dragon back. Regardless of whether yes or no this scene was in the book this scene is idiotic. Both in accords to the character and the story
Otto pretty clearly ordered not to seal the doors. Also I think the Blacks would get more backlash, considering one of their main supporters just killed hundreds of innocent bystanders in a coronation.
I mean, Otto was screaming for them to let the people out while goldcloaks who are known to be loyal to Daemon seal them in while Rhaenys one of Rhaenyra's strongest allys is literally killing them. If I was a peasant, I'd side with the Greens on this one.
I love how Aemond is just glaring at his useless brother while poor Helaena won't even look at that mofo. I think if Alicent hadn't stood in front of Aegon, Rhaenys WOULD have roasted him, but she was looking at a mother protecting her son.
its tragic to see both Daemon and Aemond, second sons who embodied what it meant to be Valyrian Dragonlords, never get the opportunity to rule. Either of them would have built a new Valyria out of Westeros.
They were made to conquer, not to rule. If you think they would have made good kings you’ve missed a major point of the entire book series and both shows.
They were loyal to daemon the gold cloaks I think they were trying to prevent anyone from leaving so rhaenys could kill them and nobody would be able to see if she made that choice. That’s why they weren’t following otto’s orders nor will they in the future. A Hightower tries to take control as leader of the gold cloaks and they just turned around and said “daemon Targaryen gave us these cloaks” we are only loyal to him and kills the Hightower.
I think they were trying to keep Rhaenys from escaping. They received word from the Hightower’s to keep Meraxys and Rhaenys under guard because they didn’t want her to leave and give the Blacks a head’s up. If you rewatch the scene, Rhaenys looks towards the doors as they’re closing it, almost wondering if she’ll make it out in time. Those doors were built for the Dragon Pit- they were reinforced to prevent Dragons like Balerion from escaping.
