Rhino 7 Basic Reverse Engineering Tutorial: STL to CAD (NURBS)

Rhino 7 is great value for the buck. This is going to make reverse engineering more affordable.

Thank you for this tutorial. It helped me solve a problem for making an electrode from an stl file that needed to be nurbs to make a curve from an intersection so I could extrude a straight part. So helpful!

Thank for the video. I'm a professional in reverse engineering. However, this method is not suitable for recognising surfaces with e.g. dimensioned radii. However, this is needed in technical objects that require high dimensional accuracy for industrial production. For visual objects that are required for games, for example, this works fine. It will probably take a few more versions for such properties to be recognised automatically. Even with V8 this does not yet work satisfactorily. Nevertheless, this function is also used by me. Good that gives it to us. Regards

How can we convert an mesh solid to an solid in order to save it as step cause now i only can save the geometry that i create as an stl file while i need it as step plz help me

your mesh seems to be converted from a cad file so this is the reason the functions works fine; I would use a real scan data exported from a scanner software and retry.

This is Not Reverse Engineering of Scanned Data It is merely translation of an stl file to cad (the file is previously converted from CAD or other type to STL mesh). It is important to note that scanning will not produce perfect mesh or polygonal model, even with the greatest technological advancements; so the scan needs repair. This whole process may be applicable to items with large tolerance of 0.125" and more. Accuracy of the produced cad file is utmost important in many industries. This software and the operator do not show capability to accuracy. Don't kid your self, there is no 5 minutes reverse engineering as well as scanning. It takes time to preproduce the scanned object to a useable cad file with decent accuracy. Other software packages depend on engineering work such as sketching and solid modeling from the scanned data. So far I have not found or seen a comparative way in this software to do reverse engineering. It may be good for other tasks but not what the title of this video says. Get a real scanned data with holes and other imperfections, repair it, prep it, and than show me the same steps as you did in the video. Cheers to all, DR
