A brand new week brings my FAVORITE FRUIT PIE(actually my editor Belle says it's classified as a vegetable - go figure). Rhubarb is a northern thing I guess. Lots of my southern friends have never heard of it, much less tasted it. It was a staple this time of year in Michigan growing up. My grandmother - Gussie - had it growing out back of the garage in the alley. She'd go out and chop some stalks off and make this pie (this recipe is hers) but she'd also make a sauce we could pour over ice cream, a cobbler and the list goes on. It's usually available from late May to mid-July. Find some at your local Fruit and Vegetable stand (they don't carry it too often in grocery stores), then follow this simple recipe and totally enjoy!! Serve with a good scoop of vanilla ice cream, and you get a taste of what they're serving in heaven when we all get there :)
So whether it's a fruit or vegetable - who cares. It's good y'all
