Right especially since the tattoo really was not as bad as the judges said imo

they have to be super critical because it's a competition, but overall it's not a too bad of a tattoo

Agreed. I HATE when I see a canvas get up LOVING it. And then so quickly hating it. I get having qualms as the high of tattooing wears off. But some canvases flip so quick it becomes very obvious they wanted the tattoo for others not for themselves

He doesn't have to accept the extra skin though. Some amount will retract naturally and the rest can get surgically removed. Sure it costs money but if he lost weight through surgery he might as well do the same for the extra skin. What I'm saying is that it doesn't have to be a permanent thing.

@@anaalina5964 When it comes to obesity (the man said he lost 200+ pounds) the skin practically loses all elasticity from being overstretched for SO LONG. Most accessible insurances will cover weight loss surgeries, but skin removal is aesthetic and thus won't be covered. It's simply not feesable for most people, and they have to learn to love their loose skin.

@@anaalina5964 the WL surgery may very well have been covered by insurance, whereas skin removal probably won't be. Not everyone has thousands of dollars that they can spend on elective surgery just laying around. Plus, surgeries can be very risky, especially for people who have chronic illnesses, so for many people, skin removal is just not worth the risk. The dude also might not want to have his other tattoos removed with the skin. Just sayin.

I don't think he was saying the canvas had a bad attitude or anything, simply that it was the "worst" in terms of how fast/efficient he could be in the time provided. Because the guy had really thin skin and a lot of loose skin, Sausage had to take his time and deal with not being able to hold the skin down properly. In a shop, this wouldn't be as big a deal because they'd just go slower and probably break up appointments.

He didn’t say that he meant that he had a rougher skin type to work with, because that canvas lost weight and that stretch’s the skin and makes is thin.

I'm pretty heavily tattooed. You have no idea going in, how much an area is going to hurt for you, until you do it. Ribs hurt for everybody, however you don't know if you'll be able to take it until you do it. When I got my elbows done it was the most painful experience I've ever had. My underarms didn't hurt that much compared, my sternum didn't hurt that much compared. I don't know why they get eliminated for a tap out... I think it's just a tool in the director's belt.

Theyre not being punished for their canvas tapping out. Theyre being punished for an unfinished tattoo. The canvas tapping out is just the unfortunate reason. How are they going to arbitrarily give him bonus points for having a bad canvas? Will they give bonus points if the artist forgot to have breakfast or they have a slight headache? At the end of the day its nothing more than excuses. When does the special treatment end? It is what it is. Life ain't always fair.

Yeah I was thinking when they said the body was too thin I was sat here thinking, have these judges never seen old Dragon artwork from Japan the body pretty much always tappers off and is much thinner at the tail.

@@AQMitch exactly. I think they wanted a westernized and modernized version of a Japanese dragon tattoo instead of the real deal which is just, so disrespectful to the art and the artists in my opinion.

They looked pretty good but they lacked the detail required for the challenge. Not their fault really. The canvases should have chosen smaller tats

I thought that too... plus the negative space was actually kind of cool........ she is nice to have done a semi unfinished good tattoo where the negative spaces make it still look awesome! Plus the bits of blue coming out of the edge.. I don't know if its a bad effect, it kind of still looked like feathers.... the general design was super good... but I guess it is a picky competition...

@@cathrinepedersen1138 part of the task as an artist is explaining to your client what is and is not doable. Time, size/scale, colour. All of that plays a factor in the end product.

@@maranduhjean Thats no really doable when there is no back up clients on this show and it seems the producers are in their ear saying "don't back down be as huge of an ass as you can- the more difficult you are the more of a chance you have at being spotted in hollywood"

Honestly thats something I had no idea of was how much even just the damn paper towel hurts towards the end... the more u sit there the more raw it gets and taking breaks makes it so much worse

Yeah I learned that the hard way. When I got my shoulder tattoo the artist took almost a 10 minute phone break and when he went back to working on my tattoo it hurt so much more than it did before

I got a calf piece done recently, it was SO painful. It was a full color piece and I took a break about halfway through and regretted it. I've been told I have GREAT tattoo skin, but it's insanely sensitive.

I can relate, I've had my ribs from the nipple down to the thigh for a few years now and good lord he was heavy handed and wiped WAY too hard. Knowing what I know now, everytime he took a break I should have kept him focused. He took about 3 5 minute breaks over about 4 hours and each time he came back my skin would get more sensitive especially with the heavy paper towel wipes. Dude was killing me but i stuck it out. Never again though, ill ask for only one break every 2 hours and I'm pretty sure it was his inexperience that was the main factor with how blown out it turned out.

Oh yesss.. when I got my rib-tattoo it was soo painful. When the artist was done with the outlines, she wanted to take a 15 min break and holy sh*t the pain was 100 times worse after that. I wanted to sit through it since the piece only took 2,5 hours, but yeah.. i started to cry like baby and needed painkillers 5 minutes in because i couldn’t take it anymore.. and I‘m not sensitive at all!😂

Dude, she was an amazing client and sat like a rock! She was also incredibly graceful and polite despite him rudely denying her any breaks. That’s how people pass out and shake more. You HAVE to take a break at some point to stretch the rest of your body out and get better blood flow after sitting in one position for hours on end. I got my ribs tattooed in one sitting with breaks and it wasn’t bad at all. She looked like she could take it like a champ. He then proceeded to throw HER under the bus and lie saying it was her fault his art sucked. I hate that guy so much - hope that sadist lost hard.

Honestly, he was an absolute p*g. He said "he'd drag her back by her hair". She should have gotten up and left that dog after that, or even earlier on.

I think the producers of the show have a hand in it. If all the contestants played nice and respected each other, there wouldn't be enough drama to attract a wide audience. I think they really encourage and even script some of the trash talking going on.

I'm torn with my feelings about it. I am a RUTHLESS Scrabble player (I know, I know, tough guy over here lol), but I'll help out almost anybody at anytime. It's possible these artists are just competitive in an extreme competition, but cool people at home. Everyone here, judges, producers, tattooists, and canvases KNOW this is a game show. And, $100,000 is a lot of money (okay, half goes to gov't after taxes, but still, $50,000 is a big deal). I can understand the drive to be the best. Plus, it's great to get your name out there in the public if you're new, it's important to keep up your reputation if you've already got a name, etc.... There's a lot riding on this game. High stakes for sure. The part that negates all of the above is the fact that the game has a conclusion, but the tattoos are forever. Some people get some UGLY tattoos because an artist talks a big game, but can't back it up. The canvas trusted them, and they got a huge eye sore in exchange. I also think it's so wrong to penalize artists for rude/stubborn canvases. If a canvas is a jerk that won't budge, the added stress is going to decrease their artistic abilities of their tattooists.

Its why I've enjoyed watching forged in fire. 0 bickering and a true appreciation for each others craft. Judges even find something encouraging for the big screw ups. I love to art in this show but hate the fake drama and junior high antics that the producers love.

Well it is art that is permanent so its kind of hard to ask the people to change what they want. If they want a tattoo on the side why would they change that so you can win a competition and some money.

Fr all my tattoos I've let my artist give me some tips on how to make it easier and stuff

exactly especially because they’re getting a free tattoo they really need to pick people who understand that fact and are more flexible, not saying the canvas needs to just to shut up and let the artist tattoo whatever but they need to be more flexible and willing to change certain things and not have this idea of what they want dead set locked in.

They just tore into Gia and Ryan but those were so pretty and had the colors that stood out and popped so you could tell whst it was, so beautiful

Composition should be and for most THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU BASE YOUR JUDGEMENT ONE honestly I don't care how fucking precise a tattoo looks, if the anatomy and composition and coloring looks shit, it is a SHIT TATTOO. PERIOD.

They aren't given enough time to design and tattoo. It's a rush job and I don't know why people volunteer to be the canvasses. I would rather pay for a really well done tattoo.

The older man judge is very inconsistent, it makes him seem sexist even how some of his decisions he so adamant about and they are opposite quality of what he claims, often the other judges never react like him.

Not really, with the exception of season 1, all seasons were about winning. Season 1 was hard to screw people over since the advantages were more beneficial towards the challenge winners such as picking their canvas instead of picking it for others or other things done in later seasons. But this show seems to have always been cut throat

And if you're willing to work with an artists' preferred style or whatever the challenge is you may get something better quality and more practiced than you were originally wanting. Idk if that makes sense at all

Also I’ve come to learn this show is bullshit anyways, a tattoo artist shouldn’t have to be good at every style and if a client loves the tattoo it’s ridiculous to pick it apart based solely on technique and make everyone second question it
