An attempted passage from Tarleton, on the Rufford branch of the Leeds and Liverpool canal, to the Lancaster Canal via the Ribble Link was called off because the rotating segment sea lock on Savick Brook was found to be inoperable. Upon diverting to Preston Dock, it was discovered that the lock gates there were undergoing scheduled maintenance with divers working on the underwater trackway.
The 4 narrow boats and a wide-beam used the "lay-by" mooring at the lock entrance while the underwater works were cleared to enable the boats to enter.
As the lock gates were undergoing maintenance, and due to high tides on subsequent days, the 5 boats were unable to leave the marina until 5 days later.
