@@stephanelabelle1401 yup so true...Ric give this song for Ben to sing knowing this sounds better with him...it's technically what you call collaboration not like Ben own this, like this so called fanatics claiming Ben own it...overall Ric was the one who wrote he just give it to Ben cuz this would sound better...period
thank you Rick for making this, and RU-vid for showing it. i can only speak for myself so, i appreciate and commend Rick for doing this and feel deeply for the loss of Ben... we are immortalized by our written words and for some of us, like these boys, have the fortune to be a part of our history and future with theirs.. Ben sang with all his heart and no one can ever be him. We can sing along and remember . This is how we are truly appreciated. Thanks for the music,
Wow I've been looking for this performence for a long time.I remember seeing this on t.v. but never saw it again. Thanks so much for posting I miss this show on VH1 classic.
I really don't know what to say. Great job, Ric. I would have been bawling half way through the performance for my friend if I were him. God speed, Benjamin Orr.
:(.........cryin like a baby watchin this....miss you Ben. Can't imagine what it's like for those who were so close to you....Thanks Ric...really beautiful tribute....
Really, really nice, still the same beautiful song but totally different. It's so nice to see Ric, the edge of The Cars, showing his human side -- what a great guy.
@Alyson2610 Then go ... goodbye. Go watch the Scorpions cover version of the song originally written by the man you see singing it here. This is a tribute by Ric to his band mate and good friend Ben Orr, who recorded the song. Millions of fans love and miss Ben terribly to this day ... show some respect!
@Petethadriver1010 Oh without a doubt, Pete -- you've nailed it. They were opposite ends of the same sensibility, a perfect musical pairing. Together they gave us some brilliant moments.
I swear I bet he can hear Ben singing it in his head as he's singing and he doesn't even want to accidentally sound as good or better. you must have really loved to Ben to respect him that much
Actually Ric sings this song different everytime live because he doesn't want it to sound like he is copying Ben. Class act on Ric's part. He knows this is Ben's song.
@@Duke_Togo_G13 very true.....the CARS started with them both and in Ric case when he wants the song to sound good he always gives them to Benjamin not that he can't sing but more like he prefers it to Benjamin cuz the sound and appeal of the song it brings.
"...¿quién prestará atención a tus sueños?..." Excelente letra. Ric Ocasek la dedica al amor de su vida: Pau Porizkova. Tal vez por eso en el coro de la canción oficial, cantada por su amigo, se oye, apenas, las sílabas pa, pa, pa. Viva The Cars.
Benjamin Orr Came Back to Earth For 1 Night on this night to give Ric the strenth to do it it becuz before the show he said it would be very emotional to do it. Ben was sitting right next to him the whole time We love you ben you were taken too soon we'll all see you one day. Rest In Peace AND God Bless
I love the Lou Reed feel Ric gives this version. Too often tributes, covers, or even live versions are overlooked because they do not sound just like the record. RO is not trying to make it a hit...just giving his interpretation and honoring the memory of a close friend and his work.
@birddoc47 The Cars were notorious for not talking much during concerts - they were genuine artists who allowed the music do most of the talking. Whether he said anything or not, 99 percent of Cars fans would understand the significance of Ric Ocasek singing Drive as a tribute.
@glennjridge Paul McCartney recently did the same thing at his last concert in NY to honor George Harrison. He took one of his songs and played it differently. I would rather have them do that then never play the song again. That would be a shame.
If you notice he looks like hes starting to get over emotional during some parts is becuz he's probbaly thinking of his old friend/bandmate Ben Orr who wrote and orginally sang this song,Ben died about 10 yrs ago.
Me sale igualita, con mi guitarra acústica. Los acordes lo acomodé para que salga en un tono apropiado para mi voz: RE, fa(sost.), si , MI. Nada más y cantarla.
I see in the description that this was from "VHi Hanging With"? I'm not familiar with this--does anyone know how he introduced this song? Did he dedicate or pay tribute to Benjamin in any way before singing it? He did a great job on it. But there will never be another that can do it like Benjamin. Very much missed.
@Alyson2610 I'm also a fan of the Scorpions, but I like them doing their own songs-seriously, they could never come close to the smooth, rich voice of Benjamin Orr, and they don't come close to Ric's version either-There is NO comparison!!!!!
I didn't see this show. Can somebody who did tell me if Ric said anything about doing this as a homage to Ben, or is that just what everybody guesses he had in mind?
Yeah. It's a tribute (to Ben), so has that sense of solemnity to it. Been viewing this video on occasion since I first found it, now more often after Ric's passing.
No Rick is good but his voice is too quirky for this song I guess he knew what he was doing when he had his bandmates sing it who had a much mellow voice Ben Orr that's his name just looked it up
