It's Late June of 2022, for the last 3 months I keep coming back to "The Cars". Thank you for this interview upload, it's as if it's 1978 all over again.

OK folks this man Ocasek IS, ALWAYS HAS BEEN AND ALWAYS WILL BE THE CARS! He wrote EVERY song, Hawkes co wrote a few but it was Ric's music and his band. This interview is awesome, so glad he is still around and making music, thanks for the post!

Love the cars , In 1980’s , I would drive around in my 1969 Chevy Nova with the cars blaring .

Around the time the first cars album came out I was in junior high , and it seemed like to me there was so much great music coming out all over the place. It was a great time for music and for being a kid . I think music had more significance in our lives back then. It was always fun to go to Tower records and look at all the albums .

I've been a fan for years! my first album was Candy_O incredible music, you guys never miss a tone or tune... and Driver was the most beautiful song I have ever heard.

From owning & listening (then wearing out) The Cars 8-track back in 1978, before anything charted, to this day in retrospective, the entire band itself was a phenomenon just as their music was. It's like Kid Rock introducing Bob Segar into the R&RHOF (paraphrased)...'no scandals, no making scenes, no pretense, no political diatribes, it was just about the music...' No in-fighting or squabbling of any real significance. Apparently Ben & Ric had a falling out about the time the band broke up, which apparently in conjunction with that time and not about why the band was breaking up, but gladly Ben reached out to reconcile before he passed. They were a group up multi-instrumental musicians whose focus was on what worked best for the music and where they could best serve to make that happen. Elliot's playing epitomized this, he'd get in where, when and how it was needed, then get out in complete deference to what was needed for the music - no filler, nothing extraneous - just on point with each and every note (same with David Robinson) but the same can be said of all of them. "Just what I needed" was their true mantra...just what the song needed, no more, no less.

Okay this interview at the beginning establishes that a widespread belief that The Cars had only one singer until The Drive video. Don’t laugh any longer Jon Mortas.

Pretty good interview. But, I can't get past the elephant in the room. Why did Goodman not ask why The Cars stopped playing around 1988? As a journalist, YOU/(HE in this case) have to ask that question, I'm sure the question was one from the people in the audience. Goodman stated that they were going to talk a little history today, but missed the biggest question. Even if Ric didn't want to get too far into it they could have set up the question and Ric could have given a two or three sentence answer and move on. Journalism is almost dead....that sucks. Facts are opinion and opinion are turned into facts...I hate that. I do live Ric's narcissistic - I'm not a star-bleeper person....I'm just as good and big as them. Meanwhile, in the beginning of the interview, Ric nicely sidestepped that he a Paulina were already probably apart and stated the kids were keeping him young.
