How times have changed from the days of Mustafi, Kolasinac and Lichtsteiner. Finished the season with the best defence in the league and still looking to improve and enhance it even more which is great to see. Really like the fact we now have strength in depth right across the back line with players who can comfortably play both flanks and more options to invert also.

Having those tanks in defence will also improve the other defenders as well. Having Kiwior, Tomi etc for cup games and rotation will do them well in the back half of the season. Good times ahead. COYG !!!

Agreed. The shift in the core mentality of Arsenal is wild. We have 2nd best team in the league, and we're actively improving it. Trying to, at least. 5-6 years ago would have been about shipping best players and trying to fill the gaps and just barely stay relevant. I would tie Arteta to a 10 years contract right now.

I want to give a shout out to Laurence. His analysis when talking about players is impeccable. He's probably the best at it. I enjoy listening to his opinions. Not just arsenal but anyone. keep it going mate. You should be on sky sports or talksport. Your better at it than the ex players.

Thank you Lawrence. People that say that we just copy City do not watch us. Yes we play very similar football but Arteta is intelligent enough to make his own decisions and focus on aspects of the game in a very different way from how Pep does. Some of our patterns of play and football is not as rigid robotic as City but Arteta does not have all the players yet to be more flavorful with his football.

He’s a left back. So would be associated with the number 3. However Tierney has number 3 atm. Calafiori wore 33 at Bologna for pretty much same reason. I would fully expect him to get 3 once Tierney fs off

I think non Arsenal fans have to realize that saliba cannot play every single minute of premier league football again this season. Timber is coming back from being out all last season with a cruciate ligament injury. Tomi fitness issues. Gabriel needing competition at LCB. This was much needed. He’s an elite reader of the game and will give us something different in buildup, his ability to carry the ball and progress play. Something different and a different way to play.

Everyone seems to have disregarded Kiwior. He has come on leaps and bounds over the last season & defensively is extremely solid, not to mention, an excellent passer of the ball. Cala will take time to settle, earn & learn his role, so I feel people are over excited about what he can offer the team this year. Kiwior is more impressive & less of a risk defensively than Cala, he also understands the team & his team-mates understand his personality & qualities, which is a major tick. With Timber, Kiwior, Cala & Zinny all vying for the left back role, I actually feel that Cala signing has the potential to be more disruptive, in terms of minutes & playing time, than many care to acknowledge.

Calafiori is in case Timber can’t kick on through. Those types of injury can call time on top top level careers and even though it might not finish Timber, I’m suggesting Arteta is already thinking there’s a chance he might never now be the player Arteta hoped he might be. This all sounds really harsh. But that is a vicious injury and I’m suggesting Arteta is already thinking there’s a chance Timber might not kick in through here no matter how hard he tries. I’m not saying he’s done, I’m saying there’s a chance he might be and so Arteta is already saying ‘we can’t give another 1-2 seasons just to see if Timber can put it behind him’, he’s already thinking ahead if the poor fella can’t properly recover.

I mean I obvs agree abt arsenals L being a problem, bt u already who timber who was brought in to do this stuff. I thought ur most important hire was a press resistant, passing CM and Merino is not that, he’s like a cheaper Connor Gallagher. And I thought u needed an international standard Lw, someone super rapid and direct to provide a good counterbalance to saka. No sign of either of those two. Guess if arsenal get all 3 it will b the perfect window tho!

Tierney is still at Arsenal and he has the #3 shirt, possible reason. Saliba waited a year to get #2 off Bellerin. Rice watching the left back space is similar to how Xhaka had to slot into LB when Tierney/Tavares bombed on. Zinchenko pushed Xhaka up the pitch, I think Calafiori would do the same for Rice.

Mikel is not your average manager, just like no one expected him to get another defender after having the best defense in the league last season.

This is a boring signing...we've seen this same signing multiple times under Arteta...the ball playing centre back that can play full back...this is Juriean timbre, Kivior, Zinchenko, etc
