@Twalkdahulkfitness is here to explain why the arsenic in rice will kill you, the fiber/lack of fiber will mess up your digestion and the carbs will make you diabetic! I couldn't be more grateful for hearing this message right before digging into a big bowl of rice. Phew!
Let's debunk this clown one argument at a time and bring what we always bring to the table, evidence-based arguments backed by Science.

Layne strikes again!!! I want to hear Layne discuss "Resistant Starches", "Starch Retrogradation" and how it affects the caloric content.
@Magic_beans_
@Magic_beans_ 2 года назад
It is a real thing, but probably overblown. Resistant starch can be found in some foods naturally (oats, beans, green bananas) and can be increased by cooking and then cooling some carbaceous foods like potatoes or rice. The starches break down (gelatinize) in cooking and then reform (retrograde) a little differently. Nutritionally, the resulting starch behaves a lot like soluble fiber: it ferments in the gut rather than being fully digested, so it feeds your flora and provides slightly fewer Calories than other carbs. Here’s where I break your heart though: the Calorie reduction is pretty tiny. A study [PMID 26693746] found that cooking white rice and letting it cool for 24 hours increased the resistant starch content by 1g per 100g of cooked rice compared to freshly cooked rice. Another [PMID 27132853] found something similar with potatoes. That’s maybe 10 Calories saved on a 200 Calorie potato*. It could still be helpful for satiety; soluble fiber helps moderate appetite, and resistant starch appears to do the same. But you’ll get most of the benefit just by eating things that have plenty of fiber and resistant starch to begin with. * Resistant starch in 100g of Yukon Golds, for example, increased from 3.5g when baked to 5.4g after cooling, then decreased to 4.3g when reheated. A 200 kcal potato weighs about 250g, so eaten cold that’s 5g of additional resistant starch. If we assume it’s 2 kcal/g instead of the usual 4, that’s a whole 10 Calories saved.

I just discovered your channel Layne. I recently lost 50+ lbs. and I've been poring through the literatures on nutrition, exercise, etc. to help me keep the weight off. I am not eliminating any food group in my diet because I know it won't be sustainable for me. I'm a Filipino and my mother used to tell me "it's not a meal if there's no rice". In her opinion, pizza, burgers, etc are just snacks. LOL> Anyway, this video was a laugh trip. A lot of our elders in my village in the Philippines live up to more than 100 years old. We eat rice for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Learning so much having found your channel. I was doing IF because of all the talk of insulin health and yet my numbers were staying the same long-term. Couldn't figure out why all these "promises" from these others wasn't working for me. I had started to think I need to fast even more. Now actually hearing someone speak of real research (putting it into regular words) instead of some schtick has been so helpful on how to manage things for the long-term versus the short-term that the charlatans proselytize.

Good education and funny. All I know is my grandparents did not have much money and ate white rice every day for supper. My grandfather raised in great depression always had cheap price food in his house like white rice, grits and store brand white bread. He never ate a salad and wouldn't eat pizza. However he liked McDonald's once in awhile. The kicker is I never saw my grandfather eat seconds and his only plate was not full. He always worked outside being active. A lot of their food, the vegetables were grown in his large gardens. He died at 82 years old and no medical issues at all until the end. My grandmother died at 78 but she ate more and had a massive heart attack at 49 when she was overweight plus smoked multiple packs of cigarettes a day. Neither drank alcohol and he wouldn't allow it on his property. I myself eat to much and to much junk bad fructose sugar crap. That has stopped because I have to get my blood work to normal. I enjoy this channel for the studies information.

There is significant epigenetic and genetic variability, so one diet does not fit all. Look at the diets of the elders in your family and look how healthy and long-lived they are. If you want that outcome, do what they did. In almost all cases, though, younger generations eat more packaged foolds (fooled into thinking it was food) than their elders. Their outcomes will be worse. Grandparents grew up eat whole animals fed on their natural grass diets. Today's children grow up on mineral chelating GMO pesticide saturated meat and processed foolds. Quality rice is not inherently bad for all people. A friend just passed away in her early 50's, and rice was like crack to her. Her diabetes was severe, her heart disease was severe, and she could NOT regulate her hunger to save her life, and she lost it. Be careful to avoid rice "fortified" with carcinogenic metallic iron filings. Iron filings will not just rust in your backyard, they will rust out tissue in your body. At high enough levels, it will trip the NLRP3 protein, which triggers the cellular inflammazome... the danger signal that the cell itself is under duress. Fe-ar then begins to emanate from INSIDE YOUR CELLS... got chronic anxiety in the milieu around you that didn't use to exist at previous lower iron filing saturation levels? Imagine a nervous system full of iront toxic cells.set to Fe-ar! It will drain the prefrontal cortex at the drop of a penny!

@wellnesspathforme6236
@wellnesspathforme6236 2 года назад
@@Morpheah She wasn't morbidly obese, although she was overweight. I'd say she was less fat than average, but her fat was concentrated around her organs. You miss the crux of the issue, though... how old are you? It is very possible she was leaner than you at your current age, especially once adjusted for sex (women naturally carry a bit more fat). It is very possible you might be fatter than her when she died. Obesity is an effect. It isn't a curse from a Martian. Rational minds try and work out the CAUSE. Persistent elevated insulin that drives down blood sugar and drives up hunger is one reason. Different people will have different reactions based on epigenetics and genetics. Elevated insulin is tied to elevated delta-5-desaturase, which drives inflammation... so persistent elevated inflammation is tied to both low satiety and inflammation. Metallic iron filings are stored 8n adipose tissue, too -- and that's a good thing. Otherwise, they would be flowing through your blood or stuck in more bio-active tissues. You can fight natural law, but natural law will always win. It is undefeated. It is best to learn it and conform to it as best as one can.

Hey Layne could you do a Video on "Calorie blockers" or lets say "Things that help store less Fat" Do they work or what are the best etc. I mean maybe you heared about Chitosan wich blocks Fat. Binds to it and its going down. I dont mean such things, not a fan at all. I mean for example Garcinia wich is said to block citrate liase wich in turns cause less fat storage, or egcg or oleuropeine before meals wich also are said to store less fat. So no actual blockers wich give you the sh*ts. Great video as always.

low carb diets are good for cutting, however they suck for performance, which is why pro athletes are doing low carb diets. muscles need glycose to perform optimally. there has been tons of tests, studies and trials based on this. if low carb or keto diets were superior, every athlete would be doing it (forced to), but they are not. it's that simple.

I've actually investigated this. Studies from reputable sources came out a few years ago - just google it. White Asian rice does not have the arsenic problem. Asians have a longer life expectancy, and of course they tend to eat white rice. To me, this all But brown rice from the US - e.g. Lundberg, even the organic stuff I used to buy - is relatively high in arsenic. Lundberg even had to release a statement explaining that the level of arsenic in their product was below European standards. To, this all demonstrates that it's best not to overindulge in any specific food. EVERY food has some sort of unique toxin, so eat smaller amounts of a wide variety of food And rinse before cooking, especially brown rice.
