Thank you kitchen daddy this recipe was sooo good! You're right about taking the time to caramelize the ground beef... The depth of flavor in this dish was freakin amazing! My family couldn't stop eating it.. so addicting lol. Thanks again, you rock! 👍🏼😉

Finally someone to show me how to make a proper Cottage Pie. As an American who has eaten it many places in England I knew how rich and thick the sauce was supposed to be but until watching you I had no idea how to achieve this. These American You Tube chefs/cooks disgust me as they clearly have never eaten a proper pie. Thank you. Now it's time to find out from you if this Irish American is making her mash the right way.

Looks so delicious! I'm definitely saving this for when we hit the cooler seasons here. I thought most alcohol gets cooked away in something like this? And surely there would be an unpleasant taste to the dish if a significant amount of alcohol was left anyway?

Hands up, been doing it all wrong. What I really want to know is, when you cook this good at home, where do you eat out, there must be some pretty amazing restaurants round your way. Changing the way I cook cottage pie. Thank you Huw.

5 years late but hey .. I would lessen up the liquid as well but I have all intentions of trying it with the wine .. as for the butter and egg on top of the potatoes, I myself throw in 3 tbsp of cream cheese then whip them .. adds to a nice Golden crust as well

My second time around I got your fantastic recipe right. I just wasn't patient and confident enough the first time and poured out some of the fat. It took me much longer than you but still perfect. Maybe it was my porcelain covered cast iron that slowed it down. Thanks so much from Florida USA

It’s the same with any dish like this - a bourguignon, a ragu, a cottage pie etc; you can’t skip parts or take shortcuts. You need to take your time and give it some love. Glad you’ve done one of our national dishes justice (second time around!😉)

I substitute red wine with tomato juice, broth and good balsamic vinegar to give me the grape taste, acidity and sweetness. I'm a fan of your work. keep it cheerful mate.

I like to put cheesy potato on my cottage and shepherds pie, then more cheese on the mash before I bake it.

Hi,looks really good but where I come from (Yorkshire England)no tomatoes,& a little less wet but I could well demolish yours.If someone hasn’t had mashed tates well they haven’t lived lol.Overall good job 👍🏻👏🏻

Maybe also good to add that adding alcohol to dishes like these will dissolve the alcohol, leaving only the smell and taste of the liquid. Great video Huw!

Super RS by far not all of the alcohol gets cooked off, that's just a myth...

Can do without the garlic masks the taste of everything else it's so potent. Too much liquid not enough potato, I prefer plenty of nicely browned potato on top, just my personal choice. As I'm a vegetarian I make mine with veggie mince plenty of onion, carrots and peas. Yummy.

If you don't want to consume alcohol, the actual alcohol in the wine boils off anyway, so you can use wine for flavor without having any alcohol in the final dish. So use wine, unless you're a psycho or can't afford it.

Far too much beef in the pan at once ! should deen cooked in 4 separate lots, interesting video sure it tasted good

You need tell whot brand of red wine your useing. When marking your recipes a lot of people like me would not the right wine to use . some call for dry or sweet to medium witch one would yu use recipe looks great but lost me on the 🍷 I'm thinkeing dry. Whot brand some or great but most or not.😱😱😱😱

Okay you had me until you said put it in the fridge and let it cool down why the purpose is you put the potato on top and then you stick it in the oven to cook I don't want to repeat and have a long drawn-out dinner on to the next

Apparently some religions prohibit its use. Even if there is none left in the final dish. It's like homeopathy, only maybe backwards. Neither makes any sense at all.
