@Malackheethis is not a home run pick. if it were there wouldn't be any reason to get a QB in free agency. Many QBs were a reach for in the first round. @@qaxcgyujm The fans aren't gonna boo Kirk when they are winning games. Kirk led the Vikings to a 13-4 season in 2022 despite having a 28th ranked run game and a 31st ranked defense. And this is why players want guaranteed contracts!!! The money isn’t the issue and goes beyond that. The whole time that the Falcons are telling Kirk that he’s the guy, they were lying to him (about that long term contract) which was the reason that he signed here in the first place. And all along they were wanting to draft a first rounder in Penix and basically planned to make Kirk a bridge quarterback. Kirk has said several times that structure is more important than the money. Kirk didn't stay with the Vikings because they basically offered him a one year contract (which is management speak for we like you but don't love you). You can bet that had the Falcons been honest, Kirk would have never signed here in the first place. I still don’t understand why they didn’t just get a bridge quarterback for a one year deal. In his first team meeting, Morris talked about how important communication is and they don’t tell Kirk that they are picking Penix until they were on the clock? The NFL is a business but what the Falcons did was pretty despicable. Everybody talks about how Penix feels and all I can think is poor Kirk.

As long as their story checks out then I understand why this whole QB thing happened with the Falcons. Terry and Raheem's story is that they didn't know if they could get Michael Penix Jr at #8 in the draft so they got Kirk Cousins and once they realized they could get Penix on draft night they picked him up too. If that story DOESN'T turn out to be the truth and they knew all along they could get Penix than they pulled the wool over Kirk's eyes by convincing him that he would be their go to guy for the next 4 years when they knew they were drafting a QB at 8 and would actually cut him after 1 or 2 seasons. That would be very dirty and underhanded.

As a fan, what really matters to you? Winning it all and having forever bragging rights or just enjoy watching your team be good but never accomplishing anything? There's no right or wrong answer, but Rich has to ask because that's what owners have to decide for their franchise. Maybe Atlanta will have the dice roll their way and eventually win a Super Bowl with Penix or they could've put themselves into a better position to win everything with Kirk now. In the end, it's all for entertainment and fun for us. Let's just enjoy the ride

Its not the same. Aaron was aging, injured, and the long term guy that they eventually need to replace. Cousins hasn't even taken a snap for the team yet. They gave him big money for more years than what Aaron had at the time. Its similar in that its a draft for the future but I think the Falcons is worse. Add in that Penix was a 6 year college player and ready to go now. Love was a raw prospect that needed to sit.

I like Penix, but Jordan Love sat 3 years, and was 24 when he started his first year. Penix is 24 coming out of college. He will be 27/28 when he sees the field. If you are going to do the Green Bay way, it would be wise to draft a younger QB, not a 24 year old.

Wide receivers are the easiest thing to get in the NFL. It's also the position that complains and cries the most demanding trades. Getting one isn't hard, as long as you have a quarterback who is viewed by them as good. The Falcons are trying to set themselves up for years. I also don't think they were 1 wide receiver away from winning a super bowl. But this pick should ensure that they're a desirable destination foe years to come, hopefully. That's the thought process behind this. With how exciting Love has been last year, and how close he got already I think you take that than just 1 more with Rodgers and then however many years with a bunch of busts. It's not fun for anyone.

Someone should ask Rich if Miami would've preferred Yatil Green or Jake Plummer in 97 or John Avery vs Matt Hasselbeck in 98. They didn't win SB's but they also would've continued winning with at least a chance. This negativity of the Penix pick has become annoying because the media drools to say how dumb Atl was but spends little time explaining the other side of the coin.

It's not the same cause the Packers were never one player away from winning an SB In 2021 they lost to SF in Divisional round 13 to 10 at home 2022 they went 8-9 When was they winning a SB? And what player was going to get them a SB ??? In 2020 The Packer picked at Pick 26 what players after that pick were differnce makers? In 2021, the packers picked at number 29. What player was available at 29 or after that would have gotten Rogers to an SB? Make it make sense....the Packers did what they were supposed to do just like the Falcons

I think if it was a 20,21, or even 22 year old the reaction wouldn't be this visceral kirk is locked in at least 2 years which means penix will be 26 the first time he starts barring injury or a cousins collapse (which is an even worse look for the falcons) people are overreacting but it was a bad move that sends mixed signals people can rightfully criticize it
@Sertonius
@Sertonius Месяц назад
@@LC-ue1jh but why does the age matter so much? Especially for a QB. That’s the most protected position in football and Penix could easily play 6-8 years. Also we were the favorites to win the NFC south the moment we got Kirk Cousins. So because we didn’t draft an edge rusher but instead got our future QB (the most important position in football) and succession plan in place we drop from being the favorites? I don’t think so. The QB position has hurt this team for many years and everyone knows that but they’re being bashed for doing something to make it better 🤷🏾‍♂️
@LC-ue1jh
@LC-ue1jh Месяц назад
@Sertonius a qb you only get 6-8 years out of and only 2 years of his rookie deal out of before the first big contract at 28 is less than ideal a qb who spent 6 years in college on top of that is already close to their ceiling and yes 1st round players usually have big impacts as rookies so buccaneers getting the top interior lineman saints getting a top rated LT are worth alot more than a backup qb that's not even something that should be a topic of discussion that's such a given?
@Sertonius
@Sertonius Месяц назад
@@LC-ue1jh I’ll take 6-8 years of not having to worry about the most important position in football over drafting a “top-tier” offensive linemen. If the starters on both of those teams go down their seasons are DONE even with those “top-tier” linemen. The “backup” you’re referring to is not the normal backup. There’s a reason teams were willing to trade of for him 😎 Our starter goes down we still have a chance to win our division. Who cares about the money and the rookie contract if you winning? NOBODY 😂😂

The simple question is do you want to focus on Winning Now when you got a Veteran QB you just paid a huge contract or do you want to gamble in the Draft & use your 1st Round Picks on a QB that you want know is NFL material for 5-6 years? People acting like Penix is a sure thimng are being dishonest because it's not as simple as Drafting a QB & things working out. Penix is gonna have to play for 1-2 years before anyone knows if he's NFL material. Personally id rather focus on Winning Now than hoping a QB works out after the guy I just brought on leaves. We are talking about having a roster spot that won't see the field in regular season games who hasn't even proven there a legit NFL backup.

Let’s re think this. Let’s say falcons wanted penix all along. But they wanted to give him a chance to grow some first. To do that you need someone who is without question the starter. What did they loose cousins? They’d pay Penix first round money either way. If they have cap space for cousins then go for it right?

The Falcons aren’t “a player away” from winning the SB though. You have to be a playoff team to do that, and that’s where Kirk comes in esp. for a new staff you paid for the experience & consistent play at QB that you’ve lacked. In the way “player x” gets the Packers another one… $180m in Kirk is for him to give us a better chance at the playoffs then it’s anyone’s game for the Lombardi.
