Hey everyone!
My first video since hitting 10k subscribers...crazy. Rich Hill really breakout when he joined the Dodgers after being traded by the Athletics. In his tenure with LA, Hill pitched two different games where he had serious perfect game bids. He lost both of them in some of the worst ways possible. I hope you guys enjoy the video!

well he technically didn't, his teammate made an error in the 9th and lost the perfect game that inning anyways. He only took the no hitter into extra innings

Rich Hill is the best Curveball pitcher in my opinion. He's no natural southpaw but still pounds the zone with that 12-6 like Sandy
@10Peter25
@10Peter25 3 года назад
12-6? More like a 10-4, but still nasty. Clayton Kershaw has a big 12-6 curve. I still remember when the Cubs couldn't score a single run off Kershaw and Hill in back-to-back games in the 2016 NLCS. The great Achilles heel of that vaunted Cub lineup was apparently their inability to hit big left-handed curveballs.
@Dejusticed
@Dejusticed 3 года назад
@@10Peter25 Didn't the cubs clinch that series against Kershaw?
@10Peter25
@10Peter25 3 года назад
@@Dejusticed That doesn't change my narrative that the first time around, the Cubs could do nothing against Kershaw. The second time around, Kershaw couldn't throw strikes with his curveball, and the Cubs made adjustments to attack his pitches more aggressively. The first time around, though, when Kershaw was on top of his curveball, the Cubs couldn't hit him. They also couldn't hit Rich Hill, and their miraculous 9th-inning rally in Game 4 of the NLDS against the Giants was made necessary by their inability to score runs off another southpaw with a big curve: Matt Moore.
@Dejusticed
@Dejusticed 3 года назад
@@10Peter25 Doesn't change the fact that Kershaw was 1-1 that postseason against them. Doesn't change the fact that curve got rocked the second game. The cubs struggled against all sorts of pitching that yea and since then. They were and are a very streaky team hitting wise.
@10Peter25
@10Peter25 3 года назад
@@Dejusticed True on all points. I think you and I are just focusing on different parts of the same narrative. :) The 2016 Cubs were only the second team ever to win the World Series after getting shut out in four games of that postseason (the first being the 1981 Dodgers), which shows how streaky their offense was that year. You're also correct that not much has changed since then. IMO, the Cubs had a great, though streaky offense in 2016, but they really won the World Series on the strength of their deep starting rotation: the returning NL Cy Young Award winner, two Cy Young Award finalists, and a crotchety old fart who was the ace of the Cardinals rotation the Cubs batted around just the year before. (Even their comeback in the World Series was driven largely by the fact that their Games 5, 6, & 7 starters were well rested while the Indians had to start two guys on short rest and their ace on short rest for the second time that series.)

Haddix's no-hitter was lost on a home run - but Joe Adcock passed Hank Aaron on the bases when the future HR king failed to run the entire way around the basepaths, thinking the game was over when Felix Mantilla (who broke up the perfect game with a grounder that was misplayed by Hoak) scored. Aaron went back out and ran the bases after the Braves realized Adcock was out due to passing a runner, but NL president Warren Giles ruled that Aaron was also out for running outside of the basepaths. The Pirates lost the game, not on a home run, but a double - and double play.

In the late 80s-early 90s I believe this happened to Dave Steib, who blew 2 no-hitters with 2 outs in the 9th, I think on back to back starts. One of them was a perfect game. Steib eventually got his no-hitter some time later. As for Ozzie pulling him early against the Marlins, I think there really should be an unofficial YOLO rule for managers if a pitcher is throwing a perfect game or no-hitter, let him keep going. Unless its very unusual circumstances. Joe Torre once pulled Cone from a no-hitter after 7-innings because it was his first game back after recovering from a life-threatening aneurysm. That checks out. What Ozzie did with the blister does not. If Rich Hill by chance got hurt trying to pitch the last 2 innings, I'm sure the Dodgers would find a way to work around him, but odds are he probably wasn't going to. You can't worry that somebody who is otherwise healthy might get injured when immortality is on the line. I can't stand that.

And the Mexico game where the Dodgers pitched a no-hitter by committee, I forget who start, Urias maybe. After the second loss of a perfect game by Hill the dodgers went into an epic tailspin, losing like 15 of 17 if I remember correctly. i was at the game against the pirates (i’m a pirates fan) it was crazy, we were sitting in left field, the ball wasn’t very far away from us.

When he said Curtis granderson made this play I replayed it 3 times. Paused it googled to see if it's true he was with the dodgers, come back hit play and he says "i was surprised Curtis granderson was on the pirates" I felt better for not knowing that. Knowing he didn't either
