Excellent speech. I have a similar military background to Foord's. At Sandhurst & throughout my army career, the concept of absolute integrity was drummed into us relentlessly; it is the most important element of leadership. And it is something that Johnson has no concept of whatsoever.
This is encouraging, but not seismic. Campaigns like this are logistically impossible in a General Election. The Tories are (currently) rudderless in a slowly sinking ship with a crew of rancid reprobates. Labour hardly fought this seat. Turn-out was low enough to suggest that the Tories who will vote blue next time simply sat this one out.... as did quite a few Labour voters. A (previously) lifelong Liberal/LibDem voter, I wish you well. This is a good result. But don't start dancing yet. Everything was on your favour here; you pulled out all the stops and won by only a few thousand. Nonetheless, well done.
@@hammer3721 Largest.... I'm not sure whether it was the most impressive, or indeed how one would measure that. I am aware of the size of the swing. Johnson is clearly a bloated, self-serving, rancid toad. His cabinet are little better. I am a lifelong Liberal who has seen many, many good or even wonderful by-election results. They count for little in terms of securing anything like a parliamentary majority. They are the sting of a wasp that annoys and weakens a government, but we do not excitedly vote for wasps. Nor do we rave about how good a sting they managed. Yes, the reverse was big. Huge, even. But Tories stayed at home. Few changed their vote. They abstained. It is not a bad result; it is a very good result. I am just saying "Don't start dancing yet". The band of the LibDems play a very good first few bars.... They rarely get to the second verse of any good dance songs. I write this as a frustrated liberal. Wait and see.... 😑😐☹️😕
