Anders, we only watched TV on Sundaymorning in the 90's.. 99% of my free time was spend drawing, running around(with or without a ball), digging, lighting small fires and generally breaking stuff in my parent's garden. Fuck me, right?

The funniest thing about this is that GI Joe actually did censor Duke being stabbed through the heart, complete with a geyser of animated blood, into his "going into a coma" and then recovering with a couple poorly dubbed lines of dialog.
That and they saw the backlash to the death of the recently released (at the time) Transformers movie with the death of Optimus Prime (among many) and didn't want to do a repeat of that. Ironcially, the Transformers movie was going to kill off Prime because Duke was going to die in the GI Joe movie.
Not many people know this, but Richard Nixon was a very integral member of 4kids back in the day! This is just a small hint of the work he did, also including that gun-turned-hammer in One Piece.

I loved this whole episode because it hit me where I live! I grew up watching cartoons in the 80s, and they hit ALL the beats. Including the blatant shots and poses from the GI Joe openings.

Legit the first scene with “death to violence” and then throwing a Molotov cocktail at the White House would be a great way to demonstrate irony to middle school students
For me, this was possibly the funniest five minutes of Futurama ever, not just for the season but the whole show. I remember laughing so hard when it came on.
