A look into my day-to-day life as a polyglot, living a multilingual life. I will explore how languages are integrated into my life and how people react to me using them. I’ll include tips on living a multilingual life too for anyone interested in keeping up more than one language.
Richard Simcott: I am a Brit living in Skopje, Macedonia. I work as Languages Director for The Social Element and I also organise the Polyglot Conference each year. I love talking in and about lots of lovely languages.
This video was recorded at the Polyglot Gathering in Bratislava 2017 (www.polyglotbratislava.com).

Great talk from a great guy. On the other hand, there is poor coordination between cameras operating in the room.

Love this guy! This was the man by whom I was inspired to study languages and establish it as my own personal favourite pastime. This was back in early 2012 when I had initially gotten into language learning and through looking for helpful tips to learn more effectively, I stumbled across Richard Simcott. He’s a language genius, no question there. I’m ever so thankful to him for it. Ok, I am not studying anywhere near as many languages as him but nonetheless, I have continued until this day and feel an enormous sense of fulfilment from it. If you see this message Richard I thank you wholeheartedly for your inspiration Sir. Many thanks and greetings from Scotland. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Good luck. 🇬🇧 Bonne chance. 🇫🇷 Viel Glück. 🇩🇪 Buena Suerte. 🇪🇸 Buona fortuna. 🇮🇹 حظ سعيد.🇸🇦

Great talk, but I have to say that the film editing is awful since they switch from one camera to the other just randomly and most of the time he makes references to things that are being shown on the screen the film editor didn't switch to the camera with the widest shoot, so you cannot know what is he referring to. that's too bad.

I really enjoyed the video. Would love to hear Richard speak in depth about raising a multilingual child. It seems he would have good, practical advice to share!

He discusses that in some other interviews available on youtube, one in French and another in German I think.

Richard is a great guy and he always inspires me to keep learning and never give up! I had the fortune of meeting him at an event in the UK two years ago. Unfortunately, I couldn't afford to go to the Polyglot Gathering in 2017. He was very friendly, approachable and easy to talk to and very encouraging and we had a short conversation in German after one of the talks.

I spoke to you (in English and perhaps some Russian, as I did speak Russian and small smidges of French and Finnish at this workshop) at the Iceland Workshop in Reykjavík, Iceland. I am hoping to attend a Polyglot Workshop in Athens, Greece and also watch the Spartathlon in Sparta, Greece, and speak about A2 Greek there. I have studied about 34 Languages and consider myself to be a Language Identifier which is just identifying all those languages and not actually speaking them which is much harder. I know you studied 50 languages and that is about 16 languages more than I have studied. I agree with you about wanting to speak all the 1,000+ languages of the World. I said only 1000+ because most of the 7,000 languages of the world only have just a few speakers. My biggest language interest is the Six Languages of Respublika Dagestan including Avarsky ( Avar in Avarsky - also Маг1арул мац1 ), Darginsky (Dargan mez in Dargwa), Kumiksky, Lakski, Lezginski, and Tabasaran which are the 6 written Languages of Dagestan other than the commonly spoken Language of Russian.

Next, conference, can you guys at least try to show what they are showing in their PowerPoint, so we can see, too, what they are talking about with lists, charts, etc? It's kinda annoying to hear them talking about something and then see from 3 miles away a chart and not know what it says!

This doesn't seem to me a Polyglot Gathering's Language Talk but, a Language Stand-up about how hard, and difficult is to pick up on languages, and how much money, and how long, and the entire lifetime you've got to invest to learn, and maintain those languages for the rest of your life.

When we get the new teleportation technologies things will be easier for great-super-transcendental-hyper-polyglots, or those who aspire to this level. ( 29 Languages translating to Dozenal: 25{12} languages ) This is when we solve the problem teleportation creates for the heart valves. reference { Andrew Basiago): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WWbYZocpUGI.html I met you at the Polyglot Conference in Reykjavik, Iceland. Yes, I know, Teleportation is pretty hard to believe, but I do believe it has been done.

Pun after pan! BTW there is not a country according to UN called mashentonia. However, there is a territory in Greece named Makedonia where Alexander the Great was from. Also, there is the 'Former Yougoslavic Republic Of Skopje' (F.Y.R.S.) which is nothing but a product of the need of Tito to immerse culture to a bunch of anthropoid mammals! Other than that, you are good. Keep in mind that just because of, germanics invaded Italy that does not mean that Rome should be called "Romaville"!

Anthropoid mammals are nationalistic pricks like you.If you want to make a point at least state the real facts. Firstly ,according to the UN resolution in April 1993 the formal name of this independant state that is situated in the southern part of the ex-Yougoslavia was "FYROM" that is "Former Yougoslav Republic of Macedonia" and not " Republic of Skopje". Secondly this territory was named Macedonia for at least 50 years. Why did the Greeks not oppose to this name for such a long time? Why didn't they raise this issue back then?
