To defend Esther, Rick has basically developed the characters for this podcast. He does as many bits as he can find and slip into, but his filler between bits (which is bit also obvsiosuly) is dismissing everything Esther says and not letting any of her ideas or thoughts live for even 5 seconds. It’s a clear bit to pretend she’s dumb and bad at improv and bad at podcasting and human conversation. It actually does make a really good podcast that I love. But it’s also actually absurd to think any person can live in that Esther role for that long. Even if she’s the best playmate and generous and without ego - no one could. It’s probably what she signed up for based on previous amazing pods together - “I do bits and when I’m between bits I’ll be so mean to you and treat you like such garbage that it’s funny. But it’s only funny if it’s so unrelenting that it’s uncomfortable.” We love it because Rick is so funny with Esther - since she’s cool being the butt of jokes and bits and his superpower can really be unleashed with her. Even if Esther knows the deal, it frankly sucks for her sometimes. I know fans of hers that don’t like the pod because of that. It’s unreasonable for her live in that space for soooo long. The roasty jokes and mean stuff would be actually be fine with her i think if Rick specifically changed his treatment of her thoughts and ideas and conversation (like analogies which is why this triggered her). Let her talk and be a conversation partner a little so she doesn’t feel like she’s suffocating or getting punched every time she opens her mouth to contribute. Even if she tries to play in any way that isn’t just eating shite, she gets railroaded. Rick basically demands that everyone play with him but refuses to be a decent playmate for Esther for even just 10min an ep. It would add dynamics to the pod as well - because we can get exhausted too. There’s a happy medium where Rick can do his thing but she can actually breath and talk back. After this episode, this change is actually needed because we now know Esther is not actually having an awesome time always and we will look for it. You can both “have a time” but there’s a way to keep this thing just as hilarious and not have it be renamed “rick has a fun time and Esther chokes on unrelenting Ds for an hour.” Huge fan. Keep it up.

Yea I think it can be tough for Rick because the evidence is there. If you look at all the times Rick gets the biggest laughs from Esther is when he is tearing her to shreds. No other jokes he does come close to those laughs. He has to take some big ass swings to hit those home runs. But when he misses with that tactic it is a fine line between her actually being offended or the audience might hate him.
@jeremyespinosa2237
@jeremyespinosa2237 10 месяцев назад
EDIT: I don't think the off camera conversation is "but It's only funny if it's so unrelenting that it's uncomfortable." What makes it funny is Esther's genuine laughter at 2 out of 5 jokes. Rick is likely more saying "you laughed so hard when I said _________, so that is why I keep hitting you with that." He has to be unrelenting to get 5 belly laughs out of Esther per podcast. And she encourages him to keep doing that because she does find it hilarious. If she really thought Rick was a hot guy and had high status from personality or looks alone, it would be entirely different and the jokes would not land nearly as much.

I imagine in my own little brain the Rick came up with the name and is poking fun at Esther with it because normally the cliche would read, ‘Rick and Esther have a (good) time.’ With the title I picture that it’s Rick, ‘Busting Esther’s balls,’ and saying she’s boring or ordinary or something.

@JorgenVonStrngle
@JorgenVonStrngle 10 месяцев назад
@@EnElMiso that’s fair…honestly I doubt I’d love it either. It’s also actually somewhat difficult to make fun of Rick so it’s tough to make it equal. The only reason I don’t 100% believe it is because anytime Rick says sexual stuff and Esther makes a big deal out of it, that to me feels very disingenuous. So I do sometimes feel like the offense is more about making Rick a villain than expressing a genuine problem. It probably isn’t smart to be breaking these guys down as much as we are tho, cuz I think it’s gonna lead to them stopping doing the podcast, but at the same time, when they keep bringing up these topics and it dominates the full episode, obviously the whole comment section is going to be people picking sides.

It has been my observation that cheating is often manifested by the lack of trust. Many with a low self image don't realize how self sabotaging insecurity is towards a relationship. A common thread you hear from someone who is cheated on or consistently rejected is "this always happens to me!" or "why does this always happen to me?!" It's up to us to choose the reason.

I agree! I've been with my man for almost 18 years. I really don't like hearing single people say "everyone cheats". It's not only about the company you keep, it's about your own mindset & if you think that everyone cheats, your whole outlook on finding that special guy (or girl) is shattered. Rick's playfull jabs fit comically and are timed well, Esther just tries to throw random insults that throw everything off. signing up to get hammered by bits, Rick-style, is a brave move. When they are that frequent, they don't always hit. Good on Esther for plowing through, and Rick shifting modes after Nikki laid it out.. take the note from your cohost and move on even if they can't pinpoint the very fine line between funny insults and awkward ones 😅 let the comedy arise interspersed with some sincerity and friendliness, like seasoning a dish you don't always have 1 note. It was a meaningful pod. I hope Esther feels better soon!

It's made me reflect on the arguments my long term partner and I have had. Where cues are missed and connection becomes hard. It seems like both Rick and Esther are activating each other's insecurities in ways they don't realize in the moment. It makes me want to give Rick a hug when he feels like he can't be himself without being criticized and I want to give Esther a hug when she feels shut down by Rick when she's trying to play or make a point. I don’t understand why Esther can’t take ricks jokes but is ok with Annie’s on the other pod. She seems so much more comfortable and in charge there. Why can’t she channel that energy with Rick..?

Right. Annie tears into Esther as much as Rick does but she never gets offended. She laughs every time

The whole podcast will work perfectly as soon as Ester understands how analogies work. I'm not trying to be harsh it's just that she's always cutting Rick off because of an analogy.

This is AMAZING to see. Our favorite comedians are always busy being goofy, and we need to see the realness sometimes. Please dont let it bring the pod down. Keep pushing! You guys will find a groove. Rick, chill out a little. Esther, give it back to Rick! Alot of times youre just taking it and not dishing it, which makes the dynamic come off mean from Rick. We want to see you guys have fun!

Rick and Esther will never work. They’re on completely different frequencies. Also, Rick has more neurodivergent thinking (I apply the same logic to almost everything that he says, even though many speaking to him seem confused or aren’t on the same page as him, and I’m “neurodivergent”). It’s not a bad thing, you just have a fundamentally different way of thinking and value/notice different things to others. I understand every single one of Ricks analogies and I feel it goes over Esther’s head lol

Esther is appealing to a woke crowd, Rick is just being a silly comic... If you start a bit on a comic, expect them to roll it back on you. I can't imagine how bad her stand up must be. She can't comprehend what's funny without it being explained.

even as a fan of both of you, this issues esther was talking about has caused me not to click on your new episodes. Ricks bits intentionally put you down or make you look dumb. it’s not only not enjoyable to watch but it makes me sad for you🥲 just wanted to say that because I see a lot of comments saying you’re not a comedian because… you have boundaries? Anyways it seems like Rick recognized them today and you feel better so I’m happy to see that happen, and it was a really enjoyable episode. Again just wanted to let you know, Esther, that what you said to Rick was definitely not out of pocket in any way. Very valid.

Ok honestly, super vulnerable but I’m in a weird time rn where I finished school and don’t have a lot of friends to hang out with. So I’m missing out on the whole talking out ideas and having arguments to see the point of view from another person. And this podcast has been helping me fill that void. I really like the dynamic. You both are funny and mindful and intentional and genuine but play off each other really well. Like you hold each other accountable, you voice your opinions. It’s great. I try to pick a favorite between you two but I can’t, it changes each episode which is a good thing. Hope to hear more

I love Rick for who he is as a comedian and for who he is as a person (atleast the version in which we see online) but I gotta say this podcast was NEEDED for him and Esther. It was refreshing to see him be a little more real just enough to make it clear on his stance on things and how he truly feels- cuz it sets the tone for future podcasts cuz we know how he is with his humor but at the same time I get it to where as a co-host somedays you just need it to be a little toned down cuz it can be combative or hard to even know how to reply to some of the stuff he says.. like if she says something snarky she’s being a bitch but if he says something snarky and she doesn’t smile and take it and actually says something sassy back then it’s like woah calm down woman what’s YOUR problem? Lmao I get the joke and it’s hilarious but it can be hard when you think of actual longevity for this podcast to have a future cuz like for how long can it go on if basically anything Esther says and does is scoffed at? Lol she likes being the butt of the joke but ya gotta break urself down sometimes so their can be room for growth and deeper conversations so this pod can actually keep going otherwise Esther will just show up and say nothing and I’m sure some ppl would love that as they are just woman hating douche bags but I think Rick should respect his cohost enough to let ppl know, I can make fun of her but you fucks must know that she is amazingly talented and this is a joke so for any of u men hate watching . You’d be surprised how many men prob think that’s how Rick truly is and they enjoy seeing him crush Esther constantly and enjoy the fact Esther says less and less each podcast so at that point why even have a cohost lol- not gon lie tho… I like when Rick is 85 percent asshole and 15 percent nice.. SIDENOTE: NG tho…its lowkey HOT AF 🔥😈 when he’s complimentary and real for a moment cuz it’s so rare to see hahahaha😅

Appreciated the MtG reference Rick. I love that game, mostly playing digitally. I became aware of your podcast when you had The Professor, it was recommended by the algo but I didn’t listen; however I got into comedy podcasts about 6 months ago and saw you on TigerBelly..been on cloud 9 since then and your comedy is my favorite, HAT is prob my fav lineup overall because I adore Esther you are the two funniest rn. Btw I suggested to LSV from the magic community to reach out about doing content. It’d be awesome if you and Post Malone did something!
