Guys: There is no reason to waste time discussing a win over Sacred Heart. They are a creampuff w/extra icing! The W Virginia game, on the other hand, is worth dissecting. WV was undermanned and lacked the talent to stay in that game. Yet, I believe they would have won IF their big guy didn't foul out. Pitino was terribly outcoached throughout those 40-mins. RP HAS to start getting his 2-best shooters more playing time AND more shots. Conway and Brady have the best strokes (BY FAR) on the team---Dingle and Alleyne are the next best. If St John's wants to succeed in Big East play, Wilcher must get 20+ mins at PG and Conway/Brady need to play serious mins (depending on the matchups). If they don't, Soriano's stats are going to plummet. Good coaches will simply surround him unless St John's can consistently hit the outside shot. Thx for the timely posting. U both do a good job.
Thanks for the comment and thanks for listening! I’d be stunned if Conway and/or Dunlap get significant minutes in big East play. So if that’s what you think is the only way we’ll be successful, then I don’t think it will happen. I disagree though. Dingle and Alleyne are quality shooters. Taylor has been on this season, and while not the shooter Dunlap or Conway are, he is 10x the defender and playmaker. And FWIW I don’t think their strokes look to be the best or the team, Conways arm twists as he releases. Brady in time will be a sharp shooter but he shoots a bit of a line drive.
In my opinion, St John's fans have all been blinded by the 'Pitino Factor' (which is pure nonsense). Have u watched any Uconn, Marquette or Creighton games? These squads are going ro DESTROY St John's bc they are simply far better teams with exceptional coaching. Pitino can NO longer blame his team's lack of time together as an excuse for poor play---he has had these guys for 2.5 mths so any blame in the future should be pointed directly at him. St John's HAS to spread the floor come Big East play or we will be looking at the same old 'shitty' basketball we've grown accustomed to the last 20+ yrs. I am convinced that Jenkins is an average player at best. Wilcher has got to see more quality time. Pitino has to get 'real' shooters on the floor more often and his best shooters are Conway and Brady (BY FAR). Soriano is a force AND, if he has solid outside play, the team will prosper. One last thing, IF Luis isn't 100% by early January, I would redshirt him. The time is not now for St John's---the future of this team has no ceiling. Pitino is going to bring in great recruiting classes every year. Furthermore, Ayo should definitely be redshirted. Something odd is happening in that situation and Pitino has not been forthcoming with any comments that clatify his thinking on the matter. I’ve seen Marquette and creighton both get beat by teams they were supposed to beat. I’ve seen plenty of ranked teams lose games they aren’t supposed to lose as well as badly played games where they win. St. John’s is not the only team that is a work in progress, and lucky enough for us now, we have a coach who’s teams get better as the season goes. Not blind faith, but if ever a track record was there to believe in..
Disagree about a redshirt. Kids as talented as him don’t stay four years often anyways. And I completely disagree about the inability for this team to have a successful, tournament birth season.
