When i see this, i am a very proud swedish man. He's the best Touring Car Driver. He has not always the best cars, but he always do results. Rickard Rydell, the swedish king!
When someone says "do you want to watch a video containing a Volvo 5cyl engine note, Murray Walker and Bathurst?" I just say Yes. I'm a simple bloke really
@@hondamanvtec2894 Silly comparison, Circuit racing has far more depth of driver talent then any other racing discipline and BTCC back then was paying wages similar to F1 teams f1 teams, that's why they had drivers with F1 pedigree on the grid back then and he was the cream of the crop at the time.
@@patrickanderson9023 Similar to my other comment but NASCAR is such a different category how can you even compare? especially when basically the whole grid is only American.
The top NASCAR drivers are all extremely talented, and oval racing isn’t as easy as it looks - just ask Juan Montoya or Marcos Ambrose. Jeff Gordon is easily one of the most talented race car drivers of the modern era, he could have raced in all the different categories, but he choosed NASCAR. And current/former NASCAR drivers such as Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Tony Stewart etc each have a networth of about $200-300m. Regarding BTCC, i loved to watch those races back in the day.
+Andrew I They do have a lot of aero on these cars as well, yes these super touring cars were very fast, and they had great handling, i heard they made 270 kph in the end of the straight :) 2 liters, 300+ hp, 5 cylinders, no turbo, and 8500 rpm , 975 kg :)
@Brockie777 The regulations had to be changed here in the UK as the cars were becoming stupidly expensive to build. Some of them apparently cost £500,000 to build and the series couldn't survive with money being spent like that. I do miss them though.
Super Touring is still a thing in the UK in the form of the Super Touring Car Challenge. When I saw it at Silverstone last year they even still had a couple of the drivers from back then racing. Cleland in a Vectra and Rydell in that S40.
@Brockie777 @supertouring22 thegodzilla [dot com] /race-history-of-the-godzilla.php have a quick read of this, it was actually due to CAMS banning everyone else due to holden/ford pressure. "Holden and Ford took the unprecedented step of releasing a joint letter to CAMS during Bathurst - telling them to get their act together and set the rules for 1993, or Holden and Ford would consider other forms of racing (NASCAR / AUSCAR)."
This was more like it. Don't get me wrong, I like the V8's, but it gets boring with just Ford Falcon and Holden Commodore. People pine for the good days of Group C or Group A in Australia but Super Touring had just as much variety of makes and IMO produced better racing.
