Ricki Lake may very well be the first publicly known figure to be vulnerable and talk about what goes on in our psyche when we’re seeing abnormal amounts of hair loss and it’s not growing back. For women especially as I rarely hear women talk about it.

Hair loss is so prevalent and it can have a take a real emotional toll on people who struggle with coping. I remember when my mom first started losing her hair because of her chemo treatments for cancer and it really had an impact on her she really started feeling scared and so she went and shaved her head because she understood that she could control that instead of focusing on the cancer which wasn't up to her to control herself. Her hair did grow back but it was different than what it was before. It went from being naturally curly to more straight and had a lot more gray than she had before cause her natural hair was brown. Then my brother and his wife went and bought her a wig that matched her natural hair color and it made a huge difference in how she felt about herself. She lit up like a christmas tree when she tried it on for the first time and felt a lot more confident about her appearance despite the fact she was going through something horrible. So i think it's awesome Ricki is sharing her message because it will help so many women who have similar stories but may not be as willing to share them

In many cultures, so much of a woman's beauty is tied to their hair. Rightly or wrongly, so many women I know associate long hair with beauty and worth. To lose that can be devastating. I think it's brave of her to tell her story and I think she's going to help a lot of people to feel less shameful of talking about this. I think it's more common than we know.

I remember watching her documentary The Business of Being Born, on Netflix back in 2011. it was about a month after having my first child (via "emergency c-section) and it was such an eye opener. It was all I could think about during my second pregnancy, and I was so grateful to be informed. Thank you, Ricki!

Rikki is the woman I grew up with, even though I was in the UK and it was the 90s. She taught me through her personality that it didn't really matter who I was, I'd be accepted. I came out as gay in, I think it'd have been 2002 Ish? Since then, Rikki has continued to inspire me, she's shown that beauty is as much on the outside as it is the inside. For me, she's my gay Diva, I really do look up to her and I hope she continues to inspire people for years to come!

'the secret is never as bad as you think in your head.' so true. i will never forget discovering my sexuality around middle school age and literally thinking to myself 'well i like girls AND boys so i'll just never tell anyone about the former and i'll be fine!' i actually believed it was something i would keep with me until my grave. now it's a large part of my identity, not all of it but a good chunk. and i can't imagine not telling people.

i went through what i would call Manic Depressive, and during this time i had the strongest urge to shave my head. i didn't want to go bald but that is what i had the urgency and compulsion to do. So, i compromised with myself and shaved the lower back half of my head. and that satisfied me

Her show did nothing but encourage women to be hurtful and degrading to men . I still remember how aweful it was like dump him on valentines day new years and just very disturbing content . I men had a show like she had we would have even more hate towards men than we do today , just a shame and sad.
