It must be nice to be in a position where you aren't under anyone else's control. The fact that he brought up the President of the Hollywood Foreign Press by essentially calling her retarded (vegetable) is SAVAGE. They can't hurt him.
@@marcwilliams9824 Yes I agree there are many funnier. But many of us just love him for saying what so many want to say but are too scared. With Ricky Gervais though, he generally does NOT care, and itmust be SO liberating. We all go through life having to behave in a certain way, and not saying what we really want to say. It must be SO lovely to just speak and not care 😊
yep its refreshing. the best comedians are the ones who can stand up in front of a huge amount of people and make them all laugh just by stating facts. rick does that but also adds in roasting. him bill burr and the late George Carlin are the top 3 that joke like that fluffy is up there too but for his voices and how funny his real life actually is. also how nice and respectful he is to those he cares about. i mean the guy straight up told everyone he was going to stop telling stories about his son just because his son told him he didnt like it. everyone cheered for the W father :D
@@declanshanahan3888 I'd rather take my chances in a south London boozer than a Glasgow one, especially on old firm derby day. Experienced that once and I'll never risk it again.
Ricky Gervais: "Do I pander to the 200 egos in the room or the 200 million people watching around the world? There´s no contest. I'm there to make the people at home laugh."
thing is - he's not actually part of Hollywood - not an official member. He simply sold his British show to America and now keeps doing his thing in the UK - you don't see him doing that in the UK - I love Ricky - always have - however he is in a position that most actors won't get to after 30 films and he only had to cash out 1 show with 1-2 seasons and say he was tired" lol what a goat!@@bigol9223
The best comedians are the ones that stand up and push the boundaries of comedy with their jokes. Even better if they're willing to go past that line. Ricky steps over the line, and then just hangs out on the other side. He's probably among the best comedians that are still around today.
He's a national treasure, but surprisingly polarising in the UK still. He just doesn't give a single fuck about telling his truths, which is all too rare these days. Great reaction again :)
Ricky Gervais went for the throat that night, and just to put an exclamation point on the night, he gave Hollywood a verbal shotgun blast to the balls. Gervais, my hats off to you sir.
I'm only mad that he didn't go harder. 😂😂😂 Ricky Gervais is a great lad, he just doesn't cop people's bullshit and will call it out. A man of my heart. Love from Australia guys. ❤
Even if names like Epstein and Weinstein are forgotten in time, these monologues will stay relevant for generations to come. A true jester doing what jesters are supposed to do, telling the truth to those in power while making them laugh.
Ricky has a knack for making all the Hollywood weirdos uncomfortable. Watch it again, but this time when they pan to the audience, look at some of the faces. Ricky is the best!
There is a beautiful blonde in a few short audience clips laughing freely. It makes her even more lovely in a mix of so many holding their breathe! I've watched it 3 times and find new stern faces in the crowd each time. Must say, Carol Burnnette was rolling with it so it seemed. You are right, Ricky is A#1.
The people who can take a joke are the New York lads, DeNiro, Pacino etc and DiCaprio. The lads who you would go down the pub with. If you're British you go down the pub and expect to have the piss rippled out of you. It started in the playground.
If yall haven't seen "after life", Ricky ger-vays plays the main character. It's fantastic. It goes from sentimental sobbing-crying to hysterical laughing through tears. The series is over now cos there was only so much they could do with the story line but it was honestly beautiful and fairly therapeutic.
So glad you chose the uncensored version and the best parts weren't bleeped out. Ricky was really wilding in this one and exposing the Hollyweird corruption and hypocrisy and a few crimes. lol Best awards show host ever! You might like Daniel Tosh too as he can get very politically incorrect and does stuff on sensitive subjects that normally would get a comedian cancelled. But he has that innocent boy next door look and constructs his jokes so expertly that people listening are usually too busy laughing their asses off to be offended. My fav routine of his is ''Eggplant'' Next you might want to hear his black slavery jokes in the live version of, ''How do 90% of Americans have jobs.'' (Don't worry he does them so that pretty well every Black reactor laugh the loudest) And lastly you might want to do Part 1 of his stand up show, ''Completely Serious.'' The joke about his schooling has most people belly laughing and there are many other funny jokes in Part 1. If you like it go to Part 2 and i think that there are around 8 parts that total under 49 minutes. Tosh says that he likes to cross his own (red) line sometimes just so he knows he still has one. 🔥🔥🔥
If I remember correctly this was like his 3rd time being asked to host and he was getting tired of it and tired of Hollywood in general because of all the cover ups and racism so he just went all out and didn't pull any punches. He was the man saying what most of us were thinking.
Yes, really good film. He also wrote and appeared in a great series called "After Life" which is on Netflix (in UK anyway) Its very dark and funny too. There are at least 2 series, maybe 3. 😊
Not many comedians would risk their entire careers by coming at the Hollywood elites like RG did at this award show. The only other comedian I can quickly think of who I believe wouldn't think twice about the effect something like this would have on his career is Patrice O'neal (RIP). He was one person who was never afraid to speak his mind. He never let others shame him into taking a certain side of an issue. He had such a quick wit and an intimidating presence. He would say things to people which clearly devastated them, but then he'd follow up with that one-of-a-kind laugh which filled the room and took some of the sting off. I really dont think he'd ever take part in an award show like this, but he definitely wouldn't be afraid to tear down the "a-list" celebs like Gervais did! Gervais dismantled those people. You can see a handful of the actors cracking up which indicates that they were not part of the Wienstein/Epstein worlds. But the others who were shocked/disgusted by the jokes.....
Thats why there is a saying. You couldn't handle the truth. People can handle lies cos its what they want to hear, not the truth when its dark/wrong/offensive but truth. Again hence the saying.
Ricky does whatever he chooses to do, and we love him for it. His standup specials are to die for: Animals, Politics, Fame, Out of England, Out of England 2, Science, Humanity, SuperNature and Armageddon are the most known. All other 4 Golden Globes he presented are also good, I wish you would have watched those first.
@@emmef7970 😂 There's one little known one he did about Christmas and Santa not being real that was absolutely Brutal. Actually catchy aswell It's in the xfm diaries somewhere you'd have to go digging Ps: that's a whole other universe of comedy. Him Steve merchant and Karl Pilkington. Years of radio where they truly didn't care even about English tolerance of humour
@@TheManorBeast I have watched this one many times. I have actually watched all of them many times through the years. I revisit them every now & then. Best part of this song is the end, it cracks me up every time I watch it. A few of my favorites are the one about "Paris". The sweet one about the "Lady Traveler". Equality Street is my favorite. So many to choose from.
You want to watch An Idiot Abroad. Ricky Gervais and his mate Stephen Merchant send their other mate, Karl Pilkington to destinations around the world. What they don't tell Karl is they are sending him to some of the most roughest parts and run down hotels they can find. It's hilarious seeing him lose his crap ringing up Ricky and Stephen to complain. They always say they will sort it out but end up sending him off on some next BS adventure. 😂😂😂
Ricky Gervais is top tier. If you haven't yet watch After Life. No Bullshit the show will have you choking on laughter and choking up trying not to cry in 5 minute intervals.
Dont worry, We all understand!! But I'm not sure why you're so concerned about the rest of the world understanding that British humor is a level or two below American humor??!?! Just because RG is a beast, it doesn't mean the entirety of British comedy is lifted to levels above everyone else.
For Context: Felicity Huffman was the actress caught up in the college scandal The father who was in "Wild Hogs" is William H Macy Ronin Farrow is the son of Mia Farrow and Woody Allen and an investigative journalist that exposed Harvey Weinstein and founder of the Me Too movement The steroid thing was aiming at Robert Downey Jnr, The Rock, Jason Mamoa, etc. Sophie's Choice was a Merryl Streep movie about the abortion issue When at the end he mentioned "donate to Australia" was because Australia was going through severe bushfires at the time before COVID hit
