Come on man. Give Rick he recognition he deserves; all the accolades and into the Hall of Fame. Listen to his beautiful songs, singing in a clear cut sweet voice that you can sing along without missing a single word.
My mother told me that a week or so before I was born (1943) she saw Ozzy Nelson and Harriet Hillliard (Rick's parents) perform. She said that Rick Nelson's voice was very similar to his father's voice. I always liked Rick's music. Maybe it got through to me while in utero. When I was in the Navy, the escapee from a razorblade factory I was on was in dry dock in Boston. Rick was due to perform the night after my leave started. You can bet I was disappointed in not being able to see him perform. I did see Jerry Lee Lewis a few months earlier. His nickname "Killer" was apropos and the show he headlined was really great.
He was an important link between country music and pop. Being well-known and popular allowed him to reach audiences that country artists could not. He was 20 years ahead of his time.
He was a sweetheart with a humble, honest heart, singing for his fans who enjoyed his songs. Great, serene, captivating voice that entranced us in those days.
at fifteen years of age I saw Ricky for the first time here on RU-vid and he’s the most beautiful young man I’ve seen in my life. Now I’m sixteen and I fall in love every time I see him singing and those pretty blue eyes. I pray to God that my future husband will look like him, yet in his own unique way as well. But as a sweet, and a kind gentleman that Ricky was. 🤍 you can say I’m waiting for a dream lover!
Ricky Nelson was one of my teen age idols, loved watching him on The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet show, and when he sang on there, his eyes! oh so dreamy!,
Tim, I used to do that very same thing. I would watch 27 minutes of "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet" waiting for Ricky to end the show with one of his wonderful songs.
Ricky Nelson could sing the phone book and make it sound wonderful. What a perfect voice...Thank you so much for your music, Mister Eric Hilliard Nelson...You are forever missed...
One of the greatest comments ever made and you are absolutely right. I’ve told my daughter that I want his song “Down Home” played at my memorial service. Have loved Ricky Nelson since I was 10 years old.
he sang this song in a bar i worked in up north.. i do believe it was his last concert.. not sure.. but he played all the old ones and his new records.. he played for the weekend for me.. he was absolutely awesome!!!! and omg.. just as handsome in real life.. and i was only 21 at the time..
ricky nelson insusi este ... iubitul din vise melodiile lui te duc intr-o lume din care nici nu vrei sa te mai intorci. si chiar daca o faci, revii cu sufletul plin de o dureroasa nostalgie ...
Ron Cleaver a friend recently attributed this song to Rickey Nelson. I didn’t know what she was talking about. As I know full well this song was written and recorded by Bobby Darin in 1959. So I searched You Tube to prove her wrong. Well I guess she was correct. Here it is. Rickey Nelson killed a great song with his slow dull version. Nothing against Rickey. I love HIS tunes. But please. Leave the original to the master and creator unless you can do it better.
Bobby Darin wrote this and he let Ricky sing it. Please got into the music history ,. It breaks my heart that that the Bobby left this earth and Ricky.
Bobby Darin wrote this. He was such a magic weaver. Ricky's mother was the main singer in Ozzie Nelsonband. He got his beautiful voice from his mother.
I feel so privileged and lucky that I got to meet and get to know Rick Nelson we are all Lucky Rick gave us this beautiful music what's that is Soulful voice thank you Rick
Wow, I never knew he could sing like this. It is pretty good. I like Bobby Darin's version but I love Ricky Nelson's version just as much. They are so different in the execution it makes them both amazing.
Someone always says that. I don't believe it. He was on TV for God's sake. When he had a new song, he played on the TV show. He had the best platform around.
@@Tonetwisters I agree. The very talented Bobby Darin was spectacular on the original song. And Ricky's understated version was beautiful. It's okay to love BOTH versions!
@@jerryhampton1618 I agree without a doubt the guitar player was James Burton. He backed up so many of the popular artists of his day. He was the Glen Campbell of his generation. James Burton is one of my favorite guitarslingers. Beautiful tone and immediately recognizable style.
This is the last song of Rick's that got any air play...I heard it at Myrtle Beach State Park gift shop the summer after he died in the plane crash...I love the way u did this.>!!
NBC doesn't allow SNL clips on youtube, but those in the USA can watch him sing this in the February 17, 1979 episode (Season 4) via Hulu. He did a couple other songs at the start of the show, but this one was the finale.
Right! Here we have Ricky singing it the "easy listening" style, while Bobby's original is rock & roll. Since I'm here, I'm recommending everybody to listen to Cliff Richard's version. Many posts are on RU-vid, so be wise to chose the one with the best sound.
Try the 1964 version by The Paris Sisters. It will melt your heart. This Bobby Darin song is so perfect that any artist with talent will have a great version.
My first love so many years ago! Oh, I was so star struck, I wasn't even a teen yet, but loved him! His voice was so calming, easy to listen to! He was my first love!
