We Miss You Ricky Ponting, whenever India played Austaralia , you were the main concern for a Billion people. Seeing the recent Australian team, we Indians miss you, Australia and Ricky Ponting are synonymous, always grabbing opportunity and winning everything and anything. I am writing this after India made the Ind vs Aus series 3-0
The standing ovation that Nathan Lyon got today because the crowd thought it was Ponting coming to the crease says so much about the respect that cricket enthusiasts have for the man and his record over the years. He is an absolute legend of the game and will be missed.
My admiration for him increased when he said he decided to retire as he felt he was not performing as well as he would have liked. He's one of the greatest cricketers to have played the game. Respect from India.
Ricky, Thank you for you contribution to cricket. You are a true gentleman, competitor and ambassador for the great game of cricket. Ashes cricket wont be the same and you will be missed deeply. Thank you and happy retirement..... A very proud Pom
Ricky Ponting, a true champion of cricket and Australia's greatest modern day batsman, at his peak he was virtually unstoppable, the word might get thrown around a lot these days but Ricky Ponting is truly a legend of Australian cricket.
This Gen we've had so many great cricketers :) Especially with how dominant this man was during the prime of Australian cricket we were always #1 between 96-2006
thank u ricky 4 everything u did over the last 17 yrs. or so u added the flaymboyance to the batting bit sad that u could not become the highest run getter in test but such is life we don't achieve everything we aspire but anyhow thanx a lot for being what u have been a terrific batsman who a bit underachieved love u a zillion times right from the 96 runs u made on debut on waca perth to the very same place where u will walk for the very last time will miss u bro a looooooooooooot good bye dear
Well done Punter on a wonderful career you was inspiration to all of us 2nd greatest Australian player to play the game. A true sportsman never forget what goes on behind the scenes. Charity's public events visiting kid's punter has given everything he has to Australia. we will miss you.
Wow it just hit me that Ponting is the last one left from that invincible team I grew up watching. As a kid I always loved knowing that whatever happened Australia would somehow win and they sure did in all forms of the game :) Obviously there are some amazing players in the team right now but hearing of Ponting's retirement just makes me all nostalgic. This really is the end of an era!
champion bloke. carried the weight of our nation as captain for a while although I will admit he wasnt the best captain he was certainly an incredible player when in form. good luck to him in the future
Punter was one of the Big 3 who defined the era in which cricket was closest to me. Now he's gone. Only Sachin's left. Growing old is sick, disgusting and painful when you lose the things that matter the most. Thank you Punter for all the cricket. You were not instantly likeable (particularly to an Indian), but your phenomenal talents eventually eroded away any issues fans of the sport may have had with you. Those who love the game will remember where they were today when they heard this news.
As an Englishman I'd like to say 'Thank God' and also 'thanks Ricky for allowing me to watch some of the greatest cricket anyone will ever see'. Good luck to you.
One of the game changed man is going off the field, Hats off to u , wat u done in cricket, I Really Miss ur Hook, pull and flick on the legside shots,no is ever better than u in that
Ponting >>>> You know who IMO. You know who only has his stats to boast about... Ricky has two world cup wins, and was a true match winner! He played his runs when his team needed it the most. He is a true champion that led his team to great heights ( captaincy wise) and was a true gentlemen off the field as well. Good luck RIcky on your future. Lots of love from Sri Lanka.
Been a great player to watch, growing up as a kid. You couldn't find a better player of the pull stroke. Hope he gets a ton in the Perth test, would be an epic send-off.
Australia's greatest ever cricket no doubt alongside Bradman, only second to Sachin Tendulkar in the world and he was also the most successful test and odi captain in the history of the game, farewell Punter you legend
Punter, who changed his life style for cricket, and Australian cricket. He has given his all, no question. He was, is, a great cricketer, and will be missed. Thanks for all of the 17+ years of entertainment Ricky, and thanks for shaving off that crapy goat-tee. One of the true cricketing ledgends.
in the history of the england team? one player? your best ever, Bradman always called England 'home'. he was a good sport. suppose he hadn't been poisoned at that point
I thought he was likeable enough. A man who led from the front and held to his convictions, someone to admire. You have flashy guys and then you have stoic guys like Tendulkar and Punter. Lara too i guess, these guys had similar enough tempraments.
People lets not fight n argue over tendulkar n ponting comparison! Yes ponting had flaws but he is one of the greatest player ever! A fighter & a real match winner! Salute n Love from india!
legend, goin to miss back foot pull shot from punter, one of d leader's of d game who always wants to win d match at any cost, wishing u a happy postcricket life:-)
Ponting will be remembered as one of Australia's greats alongside Steve Waugh and Sir Donald Bradman in my books, farewell and finish off in a high Punter. Now regarding the Australian team, Peter Forrest is likely to take his place I'm guessing.
I was talking yesterday about how I was looking forward to his last ashes series. I was so hopeful he would make it and with support from Clarke and the selectors i was positive. WHY? OH GOD WHY DID HE HAVE TO RETIRE?
Its a really sad thing to see the best aussie cricket player since bradman Least this way punter will end on a high not and hopefully he can make a ton in his last innigs
Though I Hated This Man To The Core Bt Dere Is Absolutely No Doubt That He Was One Of The Greatest Ever The Cricketing World Has Ever Seen..All The Best Punter 4 Ur Future..Cricketing World Will Miss U 4 Sure..
How can I respect him when he has a track record of brow beating umpires and being ungracious in defeat.? I wouldn't cross a quiet street to meet him. Pins in ones's eyes come to mind. I have been told that there's a tradition in Australia - win at any cost - and if you turn out to be a "winner" you are deemed a "legend". At this rate, half of Australia's population will be "legends"!
sachin compariosion to ponting sachin avg in aus 53 to ponting avg in 26 lols sachin win by big big margin sachin avg in eng 54 ponting avg in eng 41 again sachin win by big margin sachin avg in SA 46 and ponting also 46 so same... sachin avg in SL is 67 while ponting avg in NZ is 60 again sachin won sachin avg in wi is 47 and ponting avg is 61 reason sachin has not played in WI after 2002 he played all his life only against that brutal bowling attack walsh ambrose etc..
