When the contractors went into Kuwait to clean up the oil wells in '92/'93 the main thing they said was "You got fast, cheap, and good, pick any two" and that's management advice to live by. If it's cheap and fast, it ain't good. If it's good and cheap, it ain't fast. If it's fast and good, it ain't cheap.
Is THAT where that originated? I knew the saying, and I firmly believe it. Don't know why the boss was so insistent they could get all three, even if one was different.
Typically, safety is either a given, or not realistically possible, and there’s nothing that’s really about to change that in either scenario. And if there’s a ‘Ricky’ it’s definitely not a given.
Yeah, I’m a make some popcorn and watch from solid cover if a ‘Ricky’ is getting a harness. Ain’t no way I’m missing or being involved in that circus act.
When companies talk about safety it isn't employee safety, it is about the safety of the company bank account. Otherwise, they wouldn't have all that paperwork you can fill out to do an objectively unsafe task in which you acknowledge the risks and that the mitigation tools are acceptable(they aren't really). That is all so you the worker are at fault and not the company no matter what happens to you.
My brother is all about fast and cheap, safety not so much. He needed a tree taken down at his house and, well, he wanted it down fast and cheap. He convinced my husband to help him, chose NOT to listen to my engineer husband … long story short my brother dropped a tree on my husband. I told my brother he’s not allowed to play with my husband anymore, he needs to find new friends. 😂
It sounds like Ricky intends to actually use a safety harness for this plan… Considering what it takes for someone like him to use the most basic PPE, I’m not sure if I should seek shelter or make popcorn.
just cause you named it a 'safety harness' does not make what I intend to do any safer :D Now hook new guy up to the fork lift and put him in position "LET US KNOW WHEN THE WELDS ARE DONE"
@@derekp6636 Boss man when he sees one of the new workers dangling through the air by a safety harness and makeshift pulley system like piece of fish bait: “Startin to think I should’a picked cheap and safe.” Meanwhile Safety-man just watches, unable to even formulate an appropriate reaction.
Fast and safe don’t ever go together. If you don’t believe me, call the safety guy over next time you need to do something fast, and nothing is cheap anymore 😂
I thought these skits were supposed to be a sarcastic type of humor. Sort of if I could say what I wanted or do what I really wanted. This is just flat out how things are
Just tell the boss man to go take a break, and have is coffee somewhere out of sight while you finish up here. If he doesn't know or see anything then you cannot be written up for what's about to happen.
Choose cheap and fast over safe and by the time the job is done you won't have cheap or fast either. It takes time and money to clean up the accidents.
The Bradley fighting vehicle is a good example of this. The movie Pentagon Wars eloquently showed this. The vehicle was nothing of what it was originally conceived to be...
In all seriousness, Ricky is right. Any business school will teach the triangle...any business plan can lean towards providing 2 of the 3 points of the triangle but as soon as you start moving towards the 3rd point, you have to, by definition, pull away from 1 or both of the other points. The 3 points are: Quality, Cost, & Timeliness.
Plan is for the most part. All three will have Trump and his team available to help in the most simple way. Hands, feet, bodies, diving in and simply helping. Oh and can you send your credit card. No really, for real. 4k - 10k
I mean.... I can give ya those three, since I usually throw in "safe" since I work by myself, but it ain't gonna be good work if you want it cheap and fast.
Have you ever anyone seen the three circles, fast /cheap/ good workmanship. You can only pick two you can never have all three. 2:52 Edit, and it looks like boss chose fast and cheap, workmanship not in the equation
i just want to say you have a consistent insight to the work environment and I love your channel but you should lighten up on Ricky.. He knows what he's doing...mostly.
I almost always go for cheap and good not caring about how long it takes to within reason. Problem is most people think like me, so getting those two things is next to impossibly anymore.
