"I am squinting. And it's not just because it's sunny and because I'm Chinese." :) Your review as always, was worth the time and awesome! DigitalRev, I heart you!
@@kishascape Have to disagree, if you are a black and white shooter the black and white profile in camera is something special. Having shot plenty of digital and film cameras this one definitely is a standout.
That is an AWESOME system! You could put any mount w/sensor on there! Now they just need to make it.. Canon mount, Nikon mount, Olympus mount. It defeats the purpose of having to buy a new shutter button, lcd screen, viewfinder each time you need a camera upgrade! Now you can do partial upgrades! Make more mounts Ricoh!
@newasiarecords The sensor size is smaller than a 35mm film frame, which is what these viewfinders were designed to work with. Because the sensor is smaller, a 'crop factor' is applied - that is to say, the sensor crops a part of the image that would be seen on a 35mm film plane, or on a full frame camera. This crop factor changes the field of view of the 15mm lens to approx 21mm. Look up 'crop factor' on Vimeo for a very good video on the subject. Cheers!
You can customise the controls on the NEX, I have mine set so the button in the middle of the dial brings up the ISO and then you use the dial to scroll through them, so no different to the Ricoh. Also the reason the Ricoh doesn't have as much vignetting will be due to software, it has an actual Leica mount so it can tell which lens is mounted just like the M9.

Interesting and entertaining as always. I think you guys have heard that already a thousand times but: the custom-button-function on the nexcameras eliminated problems with using the fiddly menues for ages now. That's just not a valid point anymore. Cheers
@newasiarecords Looks like the optical viewfinder that comes with the Voigtlander 15mm f/4.5 he was using. With the crop factor on the GXR, though, it could (and should) be a 21mm viewfinder.
@DigitalRevCom but it's very understandable to have so many mirrorless stuff, they are getting popular and they are the only new stuff coming out lately. since mid-year there was plenty of mirrorless announcements: the Panasonic GF3, Olympus E-P3, E-PL3, E-PM1, Sony NEX-5n, NEX-7, Samsung NX200, Nikon J1, V1, Pentax Q, etc... and so far only Canon 1DX on the DSLR side... so even though there are a a lot of people complaining, it's understandable...
Funny thing is, that GXR M-mount doesnt have AA filter, but its NEX-5N that does have moiré problem? :) Its nice cheap man Leica, if you add EVF to that (you can buy it, yes). Focusing is bit trickie, but on other hand you dont need to care about focus shift as on M9. Tho its true for any other mirrorless, not just GXR M. Yea and it does excelent BW photos especially if you pair it with some decent Zeiss or Leica M lens, cause lack of filter does that bit of "Leica/Zeiss" magic.
Now I'd love to see a FD-mount Module - I'd really buy it then. Or Canon should release a Canon "TD", a digital camera taking FD lenses. There arestill so many FD lenses out there and you can only use them with some "1.4x magnification adapters" or something like that.
Gawd, I remember the original DRTV review for the Ricoh GXR. It was TERRIBLE! lol Thankfully DRTV review productions has vastly improved in leaps and bounds. And awesome suits, Kai! :)
@DigitalRevCom Thanks for brining Alamby back (finally has a girl that can speak proper English), and can you ask her not to say 1-2-3 when taking photos? Most photographers don't do that!
surely you could get a second hand m8 for the same price as the body and the unit , if not im sure you could get a leica m2 for less than the price of the unit itself
@DigitalRevCom No prob, I like every decent camera, as most photographers do. Tho maybe you are not pleasing crowd, but its not always possible to please everyone... unless you are cheerleader.
have you tried to get sharp focus w/ m43 or nex W/ manual lenses? It's no holiday, I assure you. I'm going to try the GXR, since I have thousands of dollars in glass yet can't afford the m9
Why all the hate on Ricoh? I thought it was a nice concept. Even though Leica lenses are outrageiusly priced, the body is about 8000 so why not save a bit?
@ricardoraphaelll People keep asking for the Canon 1DX review because there has been a release party in a couple countries where people have been able to see, and use the 1DX that is why there are videos already up on youtube reviewing it and/or showing different features about it. Check ChristopherKblog he has already used and reviewed the camera weeks ago
Im getting this because the price have dropped since and it's all i can afford. Perhaps there are other (mirrorless) cameras better and cheaper? Please let me know.
@DigitalRevCom although mirrorless is "the future," as it is said, mirrorless camera like the fuji x100 have (quite frankly) horrible image quality compared to modern mirrored cameras, however fun and compact mirrorless models may be. Just my opinion though. :) digitalrev still rocks. i like the swag suits
and...sure you can customize the buttons in the sony to as in the richo. The menu is really easy to learn in the sony to. Come on Kai, just say you love sony;) I know you do.
