Filmed on 31/05/2022. Before we go on our first of 2 holidays this year, we decided to do an outing back to South Yorkshire. But, to cover a brand new station along the way which is an interesting junction station.
Starting the journey at Scarborough, we catch the 06:53 Northern service through to Doncaster. This is one-train-per-day that runs between Monday to Saturdays that calls at all stations between Scarborough and Hull then fast to Sheffield. All was well until we make a very unexspected stop at Saltmarshe where the swing bridge was open at Goole. So, we were held at this station which resulted in our train being 8 minutes late. Saltmarshe only see's 6 trains per day stopping here.
At Doncaster and despite the rain, we managed to bring our umbrella as this wouldn't spoil our day even one bit. With plenty of mixed variety of freight, passenger and even light engine movements prior for route learning. LNER 225 sets will see them have a brand new InterCity Swallow livery which will be making an appearance in the very near future. The other big surprise is Transpennine Express are undergoing driver training duties between Cleethorpes and Manchester Piccadilly via the Hope Valley.
Next and after a good lunch break, we decided to go to a brand new railway station of Meadowhall Interchange. Where we decided to catch a ride on board First Doncaster Volo Wright Gemini B9TL working on X78 service. The start of the journey and almost 45% wasn't great due to some rood passengers playing very loud music and disturbing the other passengers. But, luckily they got off the bus rather quickly. A fantastic railway station of Meadowhall where all sorts can be seen and heard from quite a way. Even a freight made an appearance.
To conclude the day, we then catch the 15:21 Northern service to Sheffield which was worked by a class 150/2 from Huddersfield. We didn't get straight to trainspotting straight away as we got another recording of automated announcements which has had some updates in place. For an evening rush trainspotting session, it has been decent enough with loads of workings and variety in action as well.
Our journey back, we catch the 19:21 Cross Country service through to York via Leeds which was a lovely journey back as the sunset was beautiful. At York, the original plan was to catch the 21:17 Transpennine Express Nova 3 service to Scarborough. Sadly, this service got cancelled due to no train crew. Transpennine Express did announce first this during the day that there would be short minute trains cancellations due to no train crew which it is understandable.
