Great video, I've been messing around with this set up myself all day having just bought the Cardo Neo. Landed on Cardo to phone and phone to TFT as you recommend. Agree on turning TFT on before the cardo, but you can also just toggle the bluetooth off on the cardo then flick it back on, bit quicker then turning the cardo off then on again. Useful when you have regular stops on the bike, but dont turn your headset off every time you stop. Brilliant video, really helpful to know I wasnt the only one struggling with it

Good stuff Richard. Obviously quite techy stuff and needs a video like this to show the way to use it all effectively.I will have to watch this a few times and use it as a reference until it completely makes sense however gets me off to a good start . All the best

Thank you for this video, it's really good. My new Packtalk Bold, iPhone, TFT and mesh comms drove me nuts on a group ride from London to Worthing on Saturday. I really appreciate the advice, thank you. Cheers, Mark

Hi Richard. I'm buying a 2021 R1250RT (and Cardo Packtalk Bold) in the new year which has the new TFT/Nav so I have found your video very interesting and informative. I'll obviously have a 'play' when the bike arrives, but from your experience is it possible to connect the TFT, Cardo and android phone, to hear music from the phone and nav instructions from the TFT/connected app? Thanks
@RichDunn
@RichDunn 3 года назад
S P - a truly fantastic decision to buy the new RT. I think it's going to be a brilliant grand tourer par excellence! I haven't any experience of Android phones, and so you'll just have to experiment. Don't be afraid to get stuck in. Worse case scenario you just tell the TFT and phone to forget the devices and start again. But for me I suspect it will be the same. Bluetooth the iPhone to the Cardo and then TFT. Wait for the phone to make connection to the bike, then turn no the Cardo. Your digital assistant and Connected should both work okay. You can also try connecting the cardo to the TFT as well, but it may cause conflicts to work through. If you're a menu guy, that's probably worthwhile. If you're a spoken word guy like me, it's best not to bluetooth any headset to the TFT in IMPO experience. Let me know how you get on - both with the comms and that lovely new bike when you get it!

@@SP-ek2qz The Cardo is well worth the money. I think there's 12 of us with them now, and we've had 8-9 riders on a 3 day 1,000 mile ride with no problems. The battery life is incredible, I've never returned home with less than 50% remaining, after listening to music, making phone calls and talking on it all day - even a 350 mile day. The JBL speakers and boom mic's are excellent too. Myself and several friends still have nightmare's over the Sena units we replaced with the PackTalk Bold's. Get the Black Edition if you can - 45 mm instead of 40 speakers. Buy with confidence IMPO.

@@RichDunn Hi Richard, New Year Greetings hope you are well. Got the Cardo Bold, and sorted as many things out as I can without the bike, radio/music etc I don't intend using the phone on the bike although that does seem to work well. My riding friends have also bought Cardo Bolds for when we are able to tour again, but I can't find any instructions about actually using the intercom, just the setting up of DMC/Bluetooth and pairings. Will the others in the group hear my 'Hey Cardos' (and swearing at the sat nav) all the time or is there a way of turning the intercom on/off so that the group only hear me when I want them to? Keep Safe Steve P
@RichDunn
@RichDunn 3 года назад
@@SP-ek2qz There should be a a downloadable PDF on commands/use on the Cardo web site. Every time you say Hey Cardo, the group will hear you. And they'll also hear you say Hey Siri (or the Android equivalent) until your digital assistant kicks in. But, if someone calls you, you can answer by pressing 'any' button and you can terminate the call by pressing 'any' button. You can increase/decrease volume using the scroll wheel. And you can skip to the next music track just by pressing the most forward button once. So other than Hey Cardo Battery Status, I rarely have to use a Cardo command. I tend to use my digital assistant if I want to Call John Smith Mobile, Text Jane Doe Mobile, Read Text, Set Reminder Dinner at 8, or Pause Music, etc.You can selectively mute riders or have private conversations with specific riders, through the app itself. Alternatively create an additional group in the app for when you want to talk to just one member, so only each of you can select that specific group to talk within. For touring, if you're the leader, have everyone pair to you (you and they hold top button until in pairing mode, then only you press your top button and wait 30 secs or so) in a new group, which as the Leader of that group you'll call My Rideouts or My Tours or Steve & Friends (something logical). As group Members, they will call their group Steve's Rideouts or something logical to them. You both select those same groups whenever you ride together and then you instantly connect (on all future rides) without any further button pressing. I hope that helps?

Have you tried the new cradle on bmw.
@RichDunn
@RichDunn 2 года назад
No, I haven't. I know a lot of BMW club riders, but none of them have tried it either. Most either run BMW Connected using maps created in MyRoute-App, using the OpenStreetMap (OSM) overlay; which works well. Or they've bought the BMW Garmin Navigator (well-overpriced IMPO, having owned one), or the excellent Zumo XT ($499, but available online for $399 from different distributors), which I have sitting at home waiting to be installed on my MTS V4S.

Hi Richard, great info here, thanks a lot! I have an iphone SE 2020, BMW TFT and connected app, and a Cardo packtalk bold. I followed your instructions for pairing and it worked like a charm. The only thing I don't seem to achieve is the audible route directions from the connected app. I can't seem to get them to my cardo. In the settings of the app voice-commands are activated and at max volume. Any suggestions or solutions? Thanks again. Regards, Gert

Seems like I spoke too soon. Don’t have any audio at all from the cardo when TFT is connnected...
@RichDunn
@RichDunn 3 года назад
@@DeGroove The only way to get audio from the app is to have your headset paired with the TFT. But then you will not be able to invoke Siri to control calls and music (has to be done via TFT), which means you then miss out on Siri audio commands such as read text or set reminder. This is because it's a bluetooth conflict. As I use Siri a lot, I do not pair my headset and don't miss audio of direction commands. To ensure Siri invokes every time, you must wait for there BMW TFT to connect to your phone (phone icon shows in dash) 'before' you turn on the headset. I don't know why, it just is the case! Then Cardo and Siri commands should work perfectly, as should music if you start e.g. Apple music manually (skip back/fwd track using the front/back button on there Cardo). Every time you stop you'll need to turn the headset off and then when you turn the bike on, wait for the connection again before turning the headset on - if you forget just turn the Cardo off and on again at the next stop/set of lights and all should be good. It's a mild inconvenience, but of you wait for the connection and can live without voice prompts for navigation, Siri and Cardo will work perfectly. Tip: the TFDT navigation uses OpenStreetMap (OSM), so if you plan custom routes (in, e.g. MyRoute-App), make sure the base settings are for OSM specifically and that every waypoint is central in the road (zoom in 100%) and then the TFT Navigation works absolutely perfectly. I hope that helps - let me know how you get on!

Richard Dunn Thanks for your response and info. Didn’t have much time lately to play around with the intercom but had some variable succes with pairing. Seems a bit like hit and miss. At the moment I have audio from the cardo, music as welk as navigation voice, though there are frequent audiodrops, very short. Navigation through TFT is possible. Media is blacked out and no longer possible to have a visual or control the audio. But Audio is controllable via cardo so ok. I’m not used to using Siri so no problem if that doesn’t work. So apart from the frequent audiodrops and the laque of mediacontrol tjonge work rather well. Going to try and play around with it some more soon, mainly trying to change the order in which I pair everything...I’ll keep you informed.
@RichDunn
@RichDunn 3 года назад
@@DeGroove I you don't need Siri, it's probably best to pair the phone to the TFT, then the Cardo. And have audio turned on in the BMW Connected app. There will be some nuances; such as not all of your music playlists will be listed on the TFT and so forth, but you should be able to make calls, play music and use the Navigation (with voice prompts) if used that way. Let me know how you get on.

Finally somebody has explained easily and perfectly how to get the best from the TFT and cardo pactalk. I loved the TFT but couldn’t use Siri which is so so easy when you are on the bike and want to do anything on your phone. Spoke to cardo and BMW and both said choose one or the other. Doing what you said by not connecting the cardo to the bike is perfect. Lovely big turn display, still can use the cardo and Siri still use the cardo app. The only thing is no voice prompt on turns which is fine. Thank you so much 👍

Do you have an issue with your headset keep dropping off the TFT. I’m forever having to pair it back up
@RichDunn
@RichDunn 3 года назад
I did when I had a Sena SRL headset. I had the workshop refresh the TFT with the latest software at the time (several months ago) and then I also moved to a Cardo PackTalk Bold intercom (infinitely better IMPO). It's not been a problem since. Tip: make sure you 'forget the device' before re-pairing, not just unpair.
@andrewbooth4341
@andrewbooth4341 3 года назад
@@RichDunn yes mine is a cardo pac talk. It’s 50 / 50 if it connects or not. Due a first year service soon so will ask them to refresh the TFT while it’s in. Thanks for that
@RichDunn
@RichDunn 3 года назад
@@andrewbooth4341 Definitely do that. Kill the pairing, forgetting the device, when you take it in. Just tell them it's a constant problem and insist they refresh the firmware. They're often reluctant to up they don't have fiber because it can take up to 4 hours to refresh with slow-bandwidth. So tell them it's a problem, you're not happy, and insist they do it - it's what I had to do, but I'm very glad I did. You should not have a problem with the Cardo once refreshed and repaired. Personally I don't pair my Cardo to the TFT. I just pair my phone to both the Cardo and TFT. I let Siri handle all my voice control of music, calls, text and reminders. I use the Connected app for Navigation, but with direction prompts turned off. In my configuration to ensure Siri works you have to wait for the phone to establish connection with the TFT before turning the Cardo on (if you forget just toggle off/on while riding), but that's the only nuance. If you connect everything to everything, you'll get bluetooth conflicts. So it's either my pref: Cardo to iPhone and iPhone to TFT (do everything through the phone in conjunction with the Cardo; with TFT link purely for route Navigation, via the BMW Connect app, only). Or its Cardo to TFT and iPhone to TFT (do everything through the TFT, accepting some TFT limitations). Let me know how you get on.
@andrewbooth4341
@andrewbooth4341 3 года назад
@@RichDunn thanks I will do once I take it in. As I say at the minute it’s just cardo to TFT and I phone to TFT. When I turn the bike on I get the phone connected symbol but the little helmet symbol for the cardo sometimes it’s there sometimes it’s not and sometimes it’s there and then drops off. Wasn’t sure if the problem was with the TFT or with the CARDO. Let’s hope that sorts it fingers crossed.
@RichDunn
@RichDunn 3 года назад
@@andrewbooth4341 Let the iPhone connect to the TFT before turning your Cardo on. Even though you don't have the iPhone and Cardo talking to each other, I think there's a sequencing nuance whereby the phone has to connect first. If that works, you'll have to remember to turn your headset off every time you stop and only turn it back on again once the phone connected icon appears.
