Okay, I ordered a 700XR and I've had it for three weeks. It came right after I posted my comment below. While I don't put much creedence in any review after only three weeks, I'll just say what my initial observations are. I will not comment on reliablity, longevity, or stupid things like how happy I am. Everyone's happy with their new toy. It means nothing. Having been an avid cyclist for 40 years, I can eval all the bikey parts with accuracy. Weakness is easy to spot. So here goes: For the money, I think you get a pretty good product with workmanlike features. Acera is mid-range, comfort bike equipment that works as advertised and is known as reliable for many years. Adjustment out of the box was perfect so I didn't have to deal with that. Tektro brakes are good. They stop the bike from 20-25 mph within about 20 to 30 feet, and are capable of sending you on an endo if you don't brace. At 5' 11" I'm in the mid to tall category for this bike, so the saddle is high. That contributes to the possiblity of going over the bars in a panic stop. The brakes are dual piston hydraulics. Frame build is very good, but alloy frames are all now well done after some sketchy attempts 20 years ago. What I am impressed with, however, is the finishing of the welds . They really did a good job taking the lumps out of the visible places. Competes with the Aventon Level for finish, but the paint on the Aventon is glossy, while the 700 has a sand blasted , then painted finish. Stealthy - if you will. While it looks good, I prefer a more visible image, but that can be solved easily by adding reflective tape judiciously, which I did. The forks are mid range as well, but again, workmanlike. Can't say much, as I have never had shocks on the bike before, so I'll pass on that part. Tires: The tires are very good, but un-necessarily large, IMO. The same rules apply whether you have a battery assist or just a pedal bike: big tires rob energy faster than any other feature. I really believe that these donuts are on there because the yhave a more "rugged" look, and might be more attractive to most buyers. An experienced rider willl not be fooled. This bike - and all others - would perform better with lighter, skinnier tires in the 1.7" range. These balloons are over kill for a simple commuter. This ain't no mountain bike and 1.7's will take a gravel packed bike path just fine. Lighter, thinner tires should increase battery life and be MUCH easier to pedal should the rider over-extend the battery and end up with a tank to get home. My intention is to use these fatties up, then go thinner at that time. Fenders: Many people don't even consider what fenders can really do - unless you are a regular, long time commuter - in a wet place like the Seattle area. I get it: LaHolla is pretty, dry, and flat. Puget Sound isn't - except for the pretty part. To be effective, the front fender on a serious commuter bike should extend from about the 11 o'clock position all the way down the back curve of the tire to about the 5 o'clock position. The "abbreviated" front fender on the 700 will do almost NOTHING but vaporize the water coming out the front of the fender, then blowing it back into the rider and the bike. The water being thrown up under the tire will send a roastertail straight into the rider's shins, shoes, and worse, straight into the bikey parts that go around and grind grit into the chain and chainring. Plus, there is a huge opening at the bottom of the frame with all the wiring coming out of it. Gotta wonder about that when the likelyhood of quick and accurate replacement parts may be compromised by being made in China. I have installed a long and wide vivyl flap that almost reaches the ground. Even then, in my experience, there will be lots of vaporised water spraying back as I ride forward into it - but the flap defeats almost all the grit, which strikes the flap, then is rinsed to the ground. Fenders should work. These offerings are high quality, but the front one is too short to be of much actual use in practical terms. Cargo Rack: Very impressed with this, but, again, could have been made with smaller diameter tubes for just a bit more weight savings. Anything to extend range. The side tubes for panniers are about the right gauge tubes for the whole thing. Again, like the tires, I think the "rugged" look is hot right now. Just look at all the "Expedition Rigs" on the freeway that never actually Expedite. I suggest installing the rear light on the rack before installing the rack so you can get a good grip on the tiny 8mm nuts for the mounting studs. Be mindful of the delicate wires if you do. Lights: are good. Some have said the headlight isn't up to night commuting, but unless you are in very dark areas alot, it's fine. There's plenty of ambient light in most cities and suburbs. I got some of those little $2 flicker lights off Amazon and stretched them around the forks for white flickers to the sides in front, and two red flickers to add to the tail light in back, which only has a solid mode. Flickers get attention in a sea of solid lights all the same color. Saddle: Lousy factory saddle that is typical of almost EVERY bike out there. They know you will likely toss it, so they install some cheapo. This is not a Ride1Up issue exclusively. It really makes no sense to try and decide - for the buyer - what they will be comfortabe riding, so they have to put something on the bike and you get what you get. It's NOT a demerit. Just plan on getting a different saddle, that's all. I recommend a Brooks B-67, which is the best TYPE of saddle for the 700 series, and ALL Comfort/Utility bikes. That's what these are. Avoid the temptation of getting one of those cushy, plush, soft gel filled or "comfort foam" abominations - unless you plan to ride no further than a few miles. All that material has to go somewhere when you sit on it, and it does: right where you don't want it. That is: Everywhere - all the time. Those saddles have the right shape, but the Brooks will conform to the individual lrider in a couple hundred miles, then keep that shape for forever, while the synthetic barco-lounger will have to reform every time. I'm tellin' ya.... forty years....jus' sayin' Grips: Nice touch, being leather, but in a wet enviro, I'm inclined to prefer plastic or foam that drains well. The fine leather will get mushy when wet so I carry a couple zip-lock baggies for when it's parked. And that Brooks leather saddle has a shower cap. Pedals: These are throw-aways. No bearings, high friction. On a bike that weighs 62lbs, I want frictionless pedals , since I anticipate the day when I don't make it on a charge and have to pedal the behemoth home. It's the same issue with reduced resistance on the tires. Less rotating mass and low frictional coefficient. It's science, and it makes a difference. The heavier the bike, the more difference it makes. I replaced them with MTB pedals off a 1987 Trek 830 that I've been riding for 20 years. They are rebuildable because they have a bearing set and can be taken apart. Smooth as silk after all this time. And, they fit my big work boots better. Stability: great stability and road handling due to the weight. The Schwalbe tires help, but 1.7's will be just as good. No steering wobble at all no matter how fast I take turns - and I do. I can heel the bike over to about 60 degrees and not a hint of the front wheel going proud. Lighter bikes can skitter when you do that. If you take your turns while powering through or coasting at high speed, be sure to lean into the turn and get a little weight forward to make sure the front tire stays in the slot - like on a dirt bike. I think that's about it. I can't coment on the reliability of the sparky parts, but I can say that the battery get s me three days before I have to plug it in. My commute is quite short, at only 3.8 miles one way. But, it's very intense with lots of elevation gain. The first two miles is a shoreline roller coaster - typical of Puget Sound. The final 1.8 miles is a hill that gains 220ft. I have had no issues with power assist. Works as advertised and I'm impressed, which is not something I am very easliy. I hardly use the assist going home, so the 23 mile range I get would likely increase if I had an easy route. Also, I weigh 235 so that doesn't help get me far. Time and distance will tell how well this bike holds up. I have no issues with the off-the-shelf- bike parts, and neither do the local bike shops. But, they won't touch anything sparky, so the onus is on Ride1Up to make sure they come through for the customers. Just be nice to them and I'm sure they' do their best. MORE TO COME at 500 miles...
Those are a good deal. I'd add a good suspension post and that's about it. The step-through has more masculine appeal than most to me and I agree with you about the nice dark color scheme and no blatant labels. These guys are smart, and I wish them well.

I've owned a Ride1up 500 for more than a year and I can attest that the Ride1up ebikes are very well built and they just work, and they are very easy to assemble. I've ridden mine 1200 miles over the last year and other than fixing a few flats, everything has worked and is still working awesome without any problems or issues. However I'm jealous of the sexy looks of the 700. If the 700 existed last year, I probably would have picked it up over the 500. The integrated higher range 14Ah Reention Rhino (vs Reention Dorado 10Ah on the 500) battery, 22Amp controller (vs 18Amp on the 500), 27mph top speed (vs 25mph on the 500), hydraulic Shimano brakes (vs mechanical on the 500), better fork with lockout (vs no lockout on the 500), better tires Schwalbe SUPER MOTO, better freewheel, better color display with more info like actual battery voltage, and sexy integrated new looks, easily make up the difference for the +$350 price over my 500. Good job Ride1Up. IMO, these are the best ebikes out there for the price.
I'm with you, great price for what you get, totally worth the extra bucks from the 500 series for me too... but that's not a bad bike, the founder Kevin said he still prefers the 500 because of its simplicity and lighter weight :)
Wow, I really like the design of this bike. Wish I had seen this before purchasing the Townie Go. Really like built-in lights, the gray and black frames, and the information panel. And it's still a great affordable price. Thanks for reviewing this bike.

I recommend caution when buying from Ride1Up. They do not seem to have any dealer support or means to provide replacement parts. I ordered two bikes, waited months for delivery (understandable under Covid). But, when the first bike arrived, I noticed that the rear fender was badly gauged by the staples in the box. I contacted Ride1Up and the only response I got was that they could deduct $20 for me to buy a can of Rustolem. I told them this was not acceptable and that I wanted a replacement fender. My request was ignored and I have not heard back from them. Second bike due for delivery today. I'm hoping this one does not have any problems as it seems dealer support is non existent.
Ok, let me provide an update. It took a little while but the Ride1Up guy agreed to refund me enough money to buy new fenders. He did say that they do stock 'critical' components but not the rear fender. Even with the refund, I would still rather just have the proper original fenders. I have seen some reviews where people are critical of the front fender but I find it perfectly fine; works well and looks good.
OK another update. Don't waste money on the Panniers as they do not fit. Although Ride1up say they are designed for the bike, check out the pics on their own website: ride1up.com/product/insulated-panniers/ The bags teeter on the top rack bars and there is huge gap between the material and the base of the rack. They should not fit like this. It seems as though the bags are actually designed for a rack that has the battery mounted on top. To be fair, Ride1up agreed to accept the bags back for a refund. However, they would not pay shipping. I decided not to waste another $40 sending them back. Unfortunately I bought two sets when I purchased the two bikes. But, I am certainly not happy with the product. There are much better bags available on Amazon at around the same price.
Yeah, I think the larger black tires and matching rims make the bike look powerful and I love the professional color choices and matching fork... great rack too.
I would like more ebike manufacturers - in fact, just all bikes - made step-through frames in larger sizes for taller men. I have no need for super-fast speeds so do not need that extra rigid frame that a top bar gives. Most people don't. It is also nuts - pun intended - that a bike is only considered macho if it has a top bar. Is there a single man on the planet who, whilst riding a bike, has never hurt his man bits? Or struggled to get his leg over? I would love a step-through ebike but often the frames are not large enough for a 6 foot tall guy with long legs. Anyhow, this bike looks good.
I feel you on that, it's cool to see something like the Ride1Up 700 that has a unisex look in their step-thru. It seems like tall guys get left out a lot because most sizes (bikes and clothing) tend to be the medium average size since that's where most body sizes are, so you miss out on the unique fringe products that only come in one size.
I purchased one of these to compare against the Lectric XP I purchased recently for my wife. I purchased the step through model as I figured my wife would like this bike better than the Lectric XP. The Ride 1P is an excellent bike for the money. It is smoother in every way over the Lectric. The power is smoother. The ride is smoother. The brakes are smoother. It’s just a real nice beach cruiser type ride with ample power and tons of range. I like that it has a quick removable front wheel. The color display is awesome. The only downside is the really awful color choices. Drab grey and drab green. Honestly, what is up with that? Start making them in bright colors like red and blue and such and sales will pick up a lot. I will say that the dreary color does not draw attention on the back of my van like a bright red would do. Maybe thieves will pay less attention which is a good thing. My wife prefers the 1UP much more over the Lectric XP so I have inherited the Lectric now. I am driving the Lectric to Phoenix to have it fixed since it suddenly went dead on me while riding up a steep hill. I have had no issues with the Ride 1UP yet.

ElectricBikeReview.com well she loves the Ride 1UP. I have to say that she got very little miles on the Lectric XP before it died. I had ridden the Lectric XP more than her and I prefer the Ride 1UP by far. Both bikes are fine bikes so I am not dissing the Lectric at all. I am sure the guys at the Lectric headquarters will get our bike back up and running. I was enjoying it up to the point it died. I am sure I will again when it is fixed. I hope so because it will be my bike now that I bought the Ride 1UP and gave my wife the choice of which one she wanted. I will report back when I start riding the Lectric again and definitely will be able to compare one Vs the other.

A few weeks ago I ordered the Lectric XP that must be arriving by ship in the next few weeks. As I have not ridden either of them, I think that for the tourist visually the Ride 1Up 700 looks much more striking and modern than the Lectric XP although I do not like the gray color much. I would also like to know your opinion on how these bicycles react to rainy days or wet streets. I am very excited to start this business before summer but I have a very limited budget and to know that these are $500 dollars more expensive (with 2 I can buy 3 Lectric XP) I do not know if it is worth the investment. (quality vs. quantity $$$) Thank you !!!
Great looking eBike!!! Thanks sir for the design and good price point. My first choice. I have 29" inseam so really appreciate step thru and smaller frame. If you want to sell in Asia or Mexico, a smaller frame is necessary.

If you haven't already bought one of these bikes, I'd recommend that you don't. I did and have had almost uniformly negative experiences with it. I bought the bike with the guarantee that if I didn't like it and could return it to a location near me. When, however, I decided to return it, I was told that the bike must be packed like it was originally shipped and must be shipped to Southern California. I found the bike to be difficult to assemble with small connectors and mis-aligned fittings. It has a noise in the bottom bracket that I can't seem to solve. The display is small and the PAS buttons require precise pressing in the middle of the button. Recently, Ride1Up went to a new display which seemed like it might solve some of my complaints. I ordered, only to find, after ordering and being charged, that the display was on backorder. I requested information and was told that the display would ship by week's end. When I heard nothing (no way to check on their website) I was sent a form note that said that with the Covid-19 pandemic and "recent events" they were doing their best to meet orders. So the previous message was false. The price is good, the operation of the bike with the original display is lousy. You can do better.
I have my Ride1up LMT'D arriving in a few weeks, and was hoping to attach a front basket . I am wondering if you think that is possible considering the front cables? It is for my 7 pound dog that LOVES to ride with me. I have it currently attached to the handlebars on my regular bike (non electric) . I was wondering if you have seen any baskets on the front of ebikes, or any other suggestions . Thanks !
I ordered one. I wanted something lighter, but this has all of the features I want in a bike (except the weight). I bike mostly for recreation and exercise, so I suppose weight doesn't matter as long as I get enough of a workout. I could convert my Trek FX3 (not disc) but good conversions cost way too much and look dumb, plus mine has the rim brakes, so braking might be sketchy. I generally enjoy my current bike, it's just when I'm on my way home from a workout and I get a stiff headwind, or need to get over lots of overpasses, that I really would like a motor to deal with.
I am looking at the Ride1up 700 ST for my wife. It's the top contender so far in my research. She is 5'2' and the sizing for the ST starts at 5' I believe. Similar design to the RadCity ST but better components from what I can tell. Faster with hydraulic brakes, aluminum frame and better tires. I suspect it can keep up on a ride with some of the faster bikes like the Juiced Crosscurrent. The other candidates are the Ariel Rider C Class with the mid drive motor, but I think it is too large for her as it starts at a 5'7" tall rider. The Ariel M Class is a contender, but it's a small bike. I'm concerned about the 20" wheels. Might be a good choice. Hard to tell without test rides. One question about the Ride1up. The company is young started in 2018. Is there a concern with getting battery replacements down the road? Is the battery standard in any way if the company goes out of business or stops making the bikes? That's one benefit of the Rad bikes. Good chance they will be around a few years from now with spare parts and batteries. What ebike do you guys suggest for my 5'2" spouse in the $1500 to $2000 range? We will be talking the bike on paved roads in Florida, no hills except the occasional bridge. We are near the beach but I don't know if we are allowed to take them on the beach. Typical use would we a 10-20 mile rides on paved roads and sidewalks.
I picked one up early April 2021. It was on my door step in Buffalo, NY 5 days after order placed. This guy reviewing didn’t care for the kickstand placement well ride1up they listened and moved the kickstand back they also have a slap guard now. The display has a brightness adjuster I think it’s perfect at night. The lights are great I do have a little bit better one but I love that these are integrated, I have had my cats eye 300 die on me multiple times. I was looking at another bike I wanted that said it was faster charge time, it didn’t have the built in lights, I’m so happy they were out of stock, it was the aventon pace. There isn’t as much info out their on this bike. These tires are the perfect size I’m in Buffalo hitting pot holes is real, I have popped tires. The tires just feel good hard to explain I’m not a fat tire fan whatsoever these are like some hybrid. Driving the bike at first it was set for pedal assist didn’t care for it, you can tune it there are so many options on the display to set it up to what ever you want. It has cruise control I thought how dumb but after 12 miles you can feel it on your thumb plus I think it will extend the range for me. I’m a control freak so I have the auto pedal assist off when I need a boost I just use the thumb trigger. So pretty much its smashed down all the way until she gets going. My opinion as someone that rode motorcycles for years the throttle on a bicycle should be on the left with thumb trigger. I set the max speed to 28 just on trigger on it will do 24 some pedaling 27-28. Feel like I’m still getting to know it. It’s hard to say how long the battery lasts, I have around 220 miles on it. The bulk of use has been for work, I drive to homes to take photos for realtors. I have been recharging while taking photos so zero issues. I have extra 20lbs of gear and I’m 6’ 185-195 the range seems to be a little less than what they published but it was specked with lighter person plus it’s still cold here. If I take it easy at like 15 it’s easy 40 miles. I finally went on one casual ride not trying to just go full blast trying get to a property, the casual ride was super fun it’s like an endless coasting euphoria. I had one trip that was 17 miles. On the way there I used not even half of the battery, way back not the same. I ran out of juice about 4 miles from home it wasn’t that bad pedaling with no power but it a slow ride and it started raining. If you rode at like 10-12 mph pace, I think that’s an average speed for just a casual ride to get some fresh air and sun, I can’t imagine how long you could go, my average speed was 20mph until the last ride just driving around the bike paths along the river, people were on them walking so kept it real slow. I did drive it up a huge bridge, Grand island. No work on my part 17mph Putting it together the hardest part is unpacking it, the directions included are of not much value on their own, coupled with the videos they it’s fairly easy I was hi on an edible and tipped the bike over, I was assembling on my living room floor, hardwoods. One of the neck spacers rolled away could not find it until the next morning. I ordered the cell phone mount by far best one I have ever had. I ordered the panniers have only ever had a little top rack bag and I would ride with back pack, omg these are amazing. I have gone to the grocery store a bunch of times on it, but it’s only a few blocks away like 3 min ride it’s hard to explain just how much faster you are going, I’m a pretty avid bike rider on my hybrid Giant to keep up 20 is not possible this thing is way faster than taking car for under 5 mile trips in residential area. Only negative was they forgot to include the panniers in the order I emailed them it was such a fast response it was like texting so in the end it was a positive. It shifts super smooth, stops amazing. I have killed a few derailleurs shifting going up a hills too many times. This thing is crazy, you hit the power going up a hill and can shift it’s amazing.
Great to hear! I am debating between this and the Aventon Level. Leaning this way because of the swept back handlebars on the 700 ST since I prefer a more casual and upright riding position. Did you get the XR or ST model? I am 6-feet 210 lbs and a bit torn.
Impressive: 48v 14ah equals 672wh that translates to 26.8 miles if 500w demand, and 33 miles if 400w demand, and 38.4 miles range on a 350w average current draw. I notice that i don't always draw full watt capacity, So averages on a 500w motor translate to about 350w current draw on the battery. If you are contributing more pedal power, this could easily do a 50 mile range. Is the battery proprietary..? or can you buy aftermarket batteries..? Again, Beautiful design and impressive eBike. Hey Rob! Thanks for the feedback on range estimate, great numbers. I think they use LG 3,500 mAh cells in the pack and I do not think it's as proprietary, so you probably could have it rebuilt someday if needed. I think it's going to be a popular new standard from Reention :)
I really appreciate your reviews and they are very informative and complete. I have narrowed my search down to two ebikes both of which you have reviewed and gave high marks. I'm looking at the Ride1up 700 and the Electric Bike Model R. Obviously the price difference between the two is significant and that's where I am having the hardest time since components seem to be quite comparable. I certainly like the customization you can do with the Model R and the fact that it arrives assembled. Maybe you can help me decide if the extra $1000 price for the Model R is justifiable. Thank you.
I bought a 500 series in March 2021, they seem to have upgraded them to have some of these features you have requested such as disc brakes and a non-pedal-locking kickstand. It came with a little price hike though.
What a great choice as a commuter bike. I really wish they offered a variety of frame sizes as well as offered a way to test ride them or at least try out the frames.
Yeah, it's one of the trade-offs for that lower price point... I hope the video helped a bit, maybe the company could put you in touch with a buyer who lives nearby? I've seen other companies do ambassador programs like this (I'm thinking of EVELO specifically).

Bought one and am sorry I did. Although I knew going in that assembly was more difficult than some, certain parts, like plugging in the lights and mating the fenders with the rack were downright maddening. I finally had to remove the rear light and modify the bracket to get fender and rack together. Being the owner of 2 other electrics, I find this bike to be adequate on power, but less so than my full-suspension or my fattie. Most frustrating to me is the power ranges of the PAS. One has a choice of 5 ranges or 9. Levels 1 and 2 in the 5-choice provide very little power, but then 3 is too much. In the 9-choice, again, the first few are almost useless unless one is going downhill. After that, some of the PAS levels work, but require a lot of shifting back and forth, something I don't do on my other bikes. Finally, the PAS buttons on the display require a precise press in "just" the right spot. Since I ride a lot at night and in gloves, changing PAS levels is a challenge. Ride1Up offers a 30-day trial with 100% return, but to take advantage of that, one must repackage the bike similar to how it was shipped. My bike came so tightly packed that I had to destroy the box to get it out. Then, I had to remove an unbelievable number of zip ties to disassemble the packed bike. Although Ride1Up support was sympathetic with my unhappiness with the bike, they were firm on needing to have the bike properly repacked to return for a refund. Be advised that to have the bike professionally repackaged will run you about $200 if you can find a bike shop capable of doing it. As I said, I'm sorry I bought the bike. It'll never be my favorite ride.
@@Bastek1 My Juiced CCX has the sportier looking bars, a non interference kick stand, and a larger battery. There are 6 levels of assist and the bike is rated at 28mph while I have had it up to 33. Plus Schwalbe tires, but for a higher price.
The new model 700 has a better display with better buttons, a power based PAS that is adjustable and has more torque so all of these issues have been dealt away with.
Like how you review an ebike, perhaps in future takes you may consider having a smaller person in height to sit on one for us to get an idea for sizing. My wife is barely 5"1 and this makes it difficult to know. We'd like to order a bike now, but sizing is the question and comfort.

I wonder if they have considered working with non-profit bike shops (like the Redlands Bike BBQ) to provide an easy option for buyers to take their bikes to to assemble using a stand and a bit of guidance with lubrication, etc. Maybe instead of doing the $40 discount for pledging to replace a car trip you could select a local self-help bike shop that they would send a donation to in exchange for you being able to take your bike in for help with assembly.

Hey Court, I really appreciate the reviews!! Quick question on this 700.... would you say that this model would comfortably cruise at 24/25 mph on a relatively flat surface?? Also how does the hill climbing compare to the magnum premium which, for me, this would potentially be replacing. 500w vs 500w but the 700 peaks a bit higher?
What do you think about this bike versus the aventon level? Those are the two that I’m primarily debating between because they both seem to be very similar
Excellent video, thank you for such a thorough, helpful evaluation. One question: i am on purchasing this bike, but am wondering whether it would be wise or not to try to teach my wife, who never learned to ride a bike, how to ride with this model.
What is your height? I am 6' and really wondering if the step through would be a good fit for me as I like the swept back handle bars for less reach (due to back issues). If it is not suitable I may just get the XR model and change the handlebars to a cafe cruiser style.
When i bought the bike I just had good opinion and recommended to everyone to buy this bike the 700 model. As soon as you have an issue you will regret buying this bike, suddenly it stopped working. Bought the bike early 2020 and I have just a little over 500 miles on it. Never rode in rain. Their support is none existing. I don't get it why is it so hard to respond to an email. I just need a link where to buy the part or a suggestion what to do. I'm not asking to get the part for free even though the bike is almost new. I have emailed them several times and called several times. All I get is they are updating my ticket. There is no info at all online about the bike parts, i guess it was better if I went and bought another brand.
Hey there, I'm 6'1" and since I have neck and back issues, I prefer a more upright riding position. It seems that the ST would be better for that but since you mention it's a little small for you (don't know how tall you are), I woudn't want to feel crammed. Can you still achieve a somewhat upright position (a little lean is ok) with the straight handlebars model? Thanks.
Not OP, but I raise my handlebars on all my bikes with fairly cheap extenders and it works wonderfully and I ride around 20-30 miles / week. This isn't the tour de france, bending over is silly for your health imo.
Hate to compare but I was about to pull the trigger on a Rad City but I just stumbled on this lol...any input? First Ebike. Iv commuted a Trek Marlin but it definitely isn’t as practical
I like the zippy geared motor on this bike but it seems to produce a bit more noise than the gearless one that Rad uses. The integrated battery is really nice and I love how the 700 series looks, but I like the reflective tires and two colors from Rad. It's a toss up in many ways :)
Rad Power Bikes / RadCity has gone through quite a few iterations with their ebikes - adding many nice touches along the way. This is a nice looking bike but long term durability is not proven yet.
Trying to decide between this bike and the M2S All Terrain Sport R500. It’s for my wife who does not plan on doing anything more difficult than dirt paths though sand and such is a possibility. The Bafang motor they have and some of the components same to be a little better on the M2S but just not sure. I don’t see a review you guys did on the M2S so you may not know but any help you can give me on comparing the 2 bikes would be helpful. Thanks!
No locking the motor from working? I need to commute on one. Leave it outside with the battery. You don’t have your car able to turn on without a key just because the door is locked. I like to have motor not be able to work without key, a wheel lock, then a u-lock.
Outstanding video! I will be pulling the trigger on this bike very soon. Perhaps that may be a bit politically incorrect, too bad. We purchased this Vivi 27.5” electric bike and a Tentaquil 26” electric bike for our 13 and 14 year olds. ru-vid.comUgkxUiL0GnyDjP32RJdd660sP8mZk4CRLTCJ The Vivi was much easier to put together. With the Vivi, there was a video link to assist with assembly which made the process easier to follow (we did put the handlebars on upside down, but it was a quick and easy fix). With the Tentaquil, the assembly was not as simple to follow, but after we messaged the company for an assembly video, it was easier and they did respond quickly. The other major differences were that the Vivi has a grip throttle on the right handle (like a motorcycle) and the Tentaquil has a push throttle that you use your thumb to activate. The monitors were also different, so if you’re looking for something specific in terms of changing the bikes functions, pay attention to what the monitor offers. We were really impressed with the overall quality and functionality of both bikes, but if you’re looking for more power and an easier assembly, definitely go with the Vivi!

I feel like they are pretty comparable, to be honest. Both are sold predominantly online, but there actually are a couple of shops that carry RPB including Electric Bikes of Scottsdale, Phat Rides USA (in Arizona). Both are fairly heavy, but that's due to the fenders, racks, lights, and the sturdy build of step-thru. The gearless hub motor on Rad Power Bikes City Commuter will be more durable and provide some regenerative braking, but it's heavier than the free-coasting geared motor that Ride1Up is using here.
Trying to make my first ebike choice soon. Love the look, color, no labels, rack, tire width. Why a Shengyi Motor on the 700 series? I was hoping 2020 RadRover was going to have more uprades than basically just fenders. What do I choose this or Rover? lol
It's a tough choice... I was really impressed with this ebike, but Rad has been around longer and offers great customer support. I really like how the 700 Series looks and the choices they made with it.
I was between the Rad City and this 700, just got my 700 a couple of days ago, it’s awesome so far. I think the RadRover would be a bit better off road, but I’m mostly using my bike for commuting.
I was going to get rad city 750 watt but now 700 ride one up looks good but it only having a 500 watt I was worried about a lack of power then again I only weight 140
Here is a first ride story on my new VIVI E-bike, non-folding. First I want to say this is my first ride on my new bike, first ride in 40 + years, and first ride since turning 60 years old. I will say I cut my ride by way more than half of what I thought I would do. And it is a good thing I did. I got back to my driveway and fell down. I didn't hurt myself, but I did fall. Then I fell twice more trying to get up. My legs were like noodles. I had to use my car, to help me up. With the BIKE, I need to make some adjustments for comfort. One of the first needs to be changing the seat. This thing is HARD. And I find that I have forgotten some aspects of riding, like making corners. I wound up in the middle of the street when I didn't want to be a couple times. I only went about 3 miles. I did clime at least one of the area hills that worried me a little and made it up with no problem. There are a lot more hills in the area that are bigger and or steeper, and I not sure if the bike will clime them or not. Need more practice runs. For a short ride it was fun. I need to stop falling down when the ride is over.
With that gear ratio, I wonder if it really is possible to get up to 27 mph and wonder if the Shengyi hub motor is up to the task. It would be some serious spinning. And motor overheating a real possibility. Had that problem on a Bafang Hub drive, which I finally ditched for a mid drive bike.
Hi John! I was able to hit 27 mph and pedal comfortably. Since they've used a 45 tooth chainring and the sprockets go all the way down to 11 in the rear, it's very possible and I didn't notice anything like overheating. Rad and some others have been using Shengyi products for a while and they seem solid. Mid-drives are great, but hub motors are still a good option for use with throttle and to keep prices a bit more reasonable ;)
I’ve hit 28mph on my 700, but it did take some serious pedaling. The motor can get you up to 25-26 without much effort, the last couple mph come from your legs.
@@samwarmuth I've had similar experience on a Haibike Sduro Trekking 9.0. Its always nice to have a test ride before buy. To be honest, I don't fine that many occasions where I need or want to ride that fast. Usually up to 20 is fine, and need to be aware of surroundings to avoid any accident with others.
ElectricBikeReview.com I guess for good measure, worth reporting that Gov Cuomo just vetoed the ebike bill. Ride a Class 2 and go to Rikers :( Class 1 legal in NYC.
Great review Court. One question: I noticed you had some difficulties getting up the hill at the end of the video. Is there insufficient power to hill climb with this bike? I live in a residential area with lots of hills and I like this bike but need it to hill climb.
that might be because of only having 50 Newton meters for torque. I wish it had more because I really like most everything about this bike. I'd pay more if they had I more powerful motor options for sure.
FYI - I ordered a 700 and battery won't charge. Ride1up Customer service is not great. Who knows if/when it gets resolved. I'd probably return the bike if I though there was any change I could squeeze it back into the box....
Hi zig! This model uses 27.5" x 2.4" tires, so the rims work with 650B tire size which has become popular with mountain bikes and is now an "in-between" standard that keeps the frame lower and allows for some good suspension travel and larger tires (even plus sized tires, which start at 2.6" width)
I am buying a CycleTote to tow our pups behind our Ride1Up 700's that are on order, and need to know the mm of the seat post of the 700's, if anyone knows, please.
