Having just built two 700s for friends and a Turris for my wife, I much prefer the Turris. It is lighter, much more nimble and fun to ride. The 700 is a Cadillac. The Turris is a Miata.

What are your top speeds looking like with only 7 gears?

If anyone wanted a TLDR Pricing: The Turris is priced around $1,300, while the 700 Series is about $1,700. Classification: Both are Class 3 e-bikes with throttle up to 20 mph and pedal assist up to 28 mph. Motors: Both have 750W rear hub motors, but the 700 Series uses a Bafang motor which provides slightly more power and acceleration compared to the Shengyi motor on the Turris. Batteries: The 700 Series has a larger battery (720Wh) compared to the Turris (640Wh). Tires: The Turris has knobbier tires better suited for off-road use, while the 700 Series has more city/touring oriented tires. Weight: The Turris is lighter (58.7 lbs) compared to the 700 Series (66 lbs), making it feel more nimble. Hill climbing: Both bikes performed similarly on throttle-only hill tests, but the 700 Series was faster when pedaling. Range: The Turris had better overall range (20.45-51.5 miles), while the 700 Series offered faster range (25.18-45 miles). Intended use: The Turris is better suited for light off-road use, while the 700 Series is more oriented towards commuting and city riding.

Both really nice bikes , I love the fact that they went with 27s instead of the usual clumsy fat tires that most others use . Way better ride and handling with these tires . Would love a Turris with a 20ah battery .

🙏 please remember to do a Ride1Up Portola vs Lectric XP 3.0 comparison. 👏 EBR is the most comprehensive YT ebike reviews & most trust worthy 👏 Keep up the Good Work 🥇

Thanks for this thorough comparison of two very similarly-spec’d (except for battery capacity and drivetrain) ebikes. I’m very pleased with my Ride1Up LMT’d but always wondered between the Turris and 700, which one I’d recommend to friends. I really appreciate you going through this and giving us your judgements. I agree both are excellent bikes, especially for their price points. Sounds like beyond price, the Turris feels more nimble due to its lower mass and slightly (to my eyes) more forward-leaning riding posture and the 700 feels more solid, powerful, and comfortable.

The Turris recently received some upgrades, including a higher-capacity battery pack (14 from 12.8Ah), a quieter motor (AKM vs Shengyi), an Altus vs Tourney derailleur, and hydraulic brakes from LBN vs Zoom, and a new brake-indicating taillight, closing a few gaps and making the decision more difficult. Between the two frames, I prefer the aesthetics of the Turris, but that’s subjective. I don’t know what the “angled” gears are in the new motor, as angled can mean bevel or helical gears, but my guess is helical gears. With the same specifications, a helical vs straight gear can offer quieter meshing and greater torque handling, with the requirement of a thrust bearing.

@@lumpia91791 Getting caught on the wrong side of running updates really bites, especially JUST before an upgrade. Still glad they’re making improvements. You still got a good ebike, but yeah… As far as timing, I got an email from Ride1Up listing the changes on Jan 5, 2024. Here’s the body of the message: Smoother, Stronger, Quieter...Better! The Turris has been the go-to ebike for value and versatility since its inception. We just updated it with epic upgrades to make your ride experience smoother, safer and packed with even more value then ever.   Updates Include: - Improved brakes with LBN hydraulics - - Silent AKM angled gear hub motor - - Longer range with a 14Ah battery - - Addition of rear braking light - It might be worth asking them nicely about swapping bikes or getting any compatible components since you got yours just a few days before they announced the component upgrades. Doesn’t Ride1Up have a 30 day satisfaction guarantee? I think there is a mileage cap though.

@@lumpia91791 Mine arrives in a day or so, and has 14a battery, quieter motor with 90nm, and a rear taillight.

@@ou812true5 hopefully the plastic thing doesn’t break off like mine did in shipping! Basically the plastic cover part gets broken off into where you place the skewer thru! You have to use a wood screw screwed into the plastic to pull it out. Delayed me a couple days from having fun
