RIDGID r4514 - Router table insert for table saw and fence extension.

Added a router table to my RIDGID r4514. Some scrap wood a $20 router table insert plate, and some shelf pins and I made a fantastic router table attachment. RIDGID's fence design is great for this application because it incorporates t-track on all sides so it's very easy to add on an auxiliary fence system with t bolt. (Or in my case bolt that I ground down into t bolts)
materials list:
router table insert - the one I bought off Amazon is no longer available but all the cheap ones look the same except for the paint jobs. (also had to re drill the mounting holes in the one I had)
here a comparable one:

I like it! Great use of the extendable table. Only thought that could be problematic is dust/shavings build up. If you made the fence a box you cold easily attach a vacuum port to hook it up to a dust collector. Only feedback I'd have. The set up is great!
@TheCandolFamily

Hey that's a great idea, I've been thinking about something similar. I didn't bother thinking about dust collection because I have a small space and don't have any dust collection system set up. I’m really new to woodworking and I have this exact table saw and I plan to adapt this myself. That being said in reference to the dust, couldn’t you just make the equivalent of a cover to put on there when not in use? Instead of making a spot to lift with the finger, just raise the router to “pop” it

Creative, simple and extremely functional. This was a timely find for myself as well ... I'm picking up the Delta variant of the Ridgid R4560 next month and I wanted to do exactly what you just did in this video. About the only difference between what you did and what I'm going to probably do is have a laminate surface on the addition. Other than that, pretty much on board with your design. Thanks for the video! I have a similar saw and was wondering about locking the fence when it is on the plywood. There is a groove on the back end of table top/extension where the fence locks in. Did you cut the groove out of the plywood? How does it lock into place when it is on the plywood section? Thank you!
@TheCandolFamily
@TheCandolFamily 2 года назад
Hello there. No I didn't have to cut any grooves. Just cut the ply to the same length as the table top. It doesn't interfere with the fence. Locks down just the same as anywhere else on the table.

Hey glad you found it helpful. To be honest I stole the pins from an old book shelf. I did link some pins from Amazon in the description that are identical. One of my pins wasn't lined up correctly and I had to drag the hole. So I used epoxy to set them all after(while installed in the saw). If you have some it will make it much more durable. This is exactly what I want to do. Any chance you could link to the pieces you used? Also- did you cut the plywood square or have it beveled at all so it sits in easier?
@TheCandolFamily
@TheCandolFamily 3 года назад
Hey thanks for watching, sure I'll update the description and include my materials. Yes I did square it up. I figured that the 2 pieces of plywood I laminate together wouldn't be perfectly square to each other and would need to be cut if I wanted all 4 sides to be perfectly flush with the table sides and fence rail. Plus if I messed up the alignment of the router insert I could correct that when I trimmed. Instead of putting a bevel or groove on the edge to rest on the fence rails, I used metal shelf pins to line up and hold it flush with the table surface. Thought it might get in the way of the fence sliding over the insert. I did break the top edge with some sand paper just so it matched the edges of the rest of the table. Thanks for the question. Hit me up if you have more when u go make one for your saw.

Did you have to ajust the fence for the saw? I bought the same saw and have trouble getting the fence to line up straight.
@TheCandolFamily
@TheCandolFamily 3 года назад
I'd actually bought it second hand. Not sure if the first guy did or not, but I have noticed that there are 2 spring clips on the front of the fence that if not engaged properly throws the fence out of wack. I always push forward on the springs when I put the fence on Maybe that might help you. Also the fence isn't attached to anything at the front untill it's clamped, so it's best to hold the front face and only the first couple inches of the fence to slide it over.

@TheCandolFamily

What model was it? Seems really sturdy to me. My thought is if it can handle half a sheet of plywood at 30", a couple of pounds at 15 should be ok.
@dfs7979
@dfs7979 3 года назад
@@TheCandolFamily Oh I wasn't suggesting the weight was an issue. What I had going on with my R4510 was the sliding table would bow downward slightly given enough weight. This wasn't a problem for small pieces but for stiles and rails and certainly raised panels I'd get inconsistent results depending on how hard I would push to keep the the work piece flat. My Ridgid just died the other day so when my Metabo arrives I'll look at doing this again but this time using an adjustable angled support from a cross member instead of hanging it from the rack and pinion rails. This way I can dial everything in to be on the same plane and can still adjust the fence.
@TheCandolFamily

@@dfs7979not sure if they use the fence system but I will definitely keep an eye on it see if it begins to sag, but so far so good. Love the metabo saws. Hitachi makes great tools.
