Sometimes, when you make a great play, you need a few minutes to yourself afterwards.

Try to upgrade them a lot, produce a lot of them (a dozen maybe?) and put some units to protect them at the front -- the best being upgraded archers since they don't have to move to fight so they don't risk getting killed by your onagers in the battle. If the enemy uses horses, use either pikemen, champions or camels/knights, at least in fights against AIs. To defend against them, use (upgraded) knights: they move fast enough to avoid the projectiles.
